2020 MASSACHUSETTS VIRTUAL STATE 4-H FAIR
2
Welcome to the Massachusetts Virtual State 4-H Fair! During this very unusual year, each of us had had to adapt to many changes. We learned how to interact with others in new ways, take part in distance learning, and to hold 4-H meetings on Zoom. Many of our usual activities and programs had to be cancelled. While all of this has been difficult, our 4-H Community has been resilient and adapted, keeping each other safe by finding new, creative ways to meet and to deliver 4-H programming. The Massachusetts virtual state 4-H Fair is one way our program has had to adapt. While this does not intend to replicate or replace the experiences and interactions everyone enjoys at in-person Massachusetts 4-H Fairs, it does provide an opportunity for projects which 4-H members have worked on so diligently to be evaluated and shared. You might find that this fair may allow time for you to try entering a new or different class as well. The College of Natural Resources Dean Serio, Extension Director Jody Jellison, Associate Directors Joe Shoenfeld, William Miller and Kathleen Geary, and the entire 4-H Team wish all participants the best of luck. Let us continue to Make the Best Better through participation in this first ever Massachusetts Virtual State 4-H Fair! Linda Horn Interim Director, University of Massachusetts Extension 4-H Program

Be sure that we can see the dog getting on and off each obstacle. 2 Feet On: Dog walks up to obstacle and places two front feet onto the obstacle and remains on the obstacle for at least 5 seconds. The object must be at least elbow height. Except for puppies under 18 months and dogs over 7 years). Under: Dog crouches down and passes under an obstacle shorter than head height. Through: (between two obstacles) Two obstacles must be less than dog’s body length apart from each other. The dog must pass through these two obstacles with confidence. In: Dog must safely walk into or hop into an obstacle that has four sides. All four feet must remain in the obstacle for 5 seconds. Balance: Balance across an obstacle that is twice shoulder width or narrower and 3 times longer than dog. Dog must have all four feet on obstacle and safely walk across it.
