“We hope to wrap up the construction of the Medical Clinic building soon. We have worked for years to bring medi-cal services back to Elma and are excited about the range of services Regional Health Services of Howard County will soon be offering,” shared Bruce Weigel, committee member.

“Well child checks, physicals, prenatal visits, lab services, mental health services, acute visits, and some pharmacy services are some of the services we plan to offer in Elma,” shared CEO Robin Schluter. The medical clinic is located on the Blue Bird Block on Busti Avenue in Elma and will be open Monday through Friday with a rotation of Regional Health providers. RHSHC will provide primary

family practice services, obstet-ric care, and mental health ser-vices in Elma and offers a vari-ety of other inpatient and out-patient services at the hospital campus in Cresco. In addition, RHSHC providers and staff will help patients with referrals to

higher levels of care and specialists when needed. Currently, Specialists coming to Cresco RHSHC include: Cardiology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), Podiatry, Ophthalmology (Cataract Surgery), Urology, and Audiology.

“We are grateful for the support of this project whether it be financial or volunteer labor that has gone into the building of the medical clinic. We are excited about the range of services RHSHC is willing to offer and their abilities to work with other networks if patients need advanced care. Now, it will be up the community to use these local services,” added Weigel.

About the Elma Community

Complex Project:

The building of the medical clinic is the second phase of the Elma Community Complex Project. The multi-phase project enhances the services of the following nonprofits – daycare, library, medical clinic and city. The first

phase of the ECC project involved deconstructing the brick school building, completed in April. The second phase was the construc-tion of the medical clinic. Once the medical clinic is complete, the committee hopes they can move into the third phase of the project which will

be to repurposing a portion of the gymnasium into a city clerk's office and multipurpose communi-ty room. This handicap accessible room with kitchenette will be used for library programming for adults and youth, community meetings and gatherings. Capacity will be around 50 people. (con’t)

Corn and Beans As of this writing, cash corn is $3.02 and cash soybeans are $8.52. Corn is $.01 higher and soybeans are $.18 higher than one month ago. Septem-ber corn futures are $3.33, with support at $3.30 and then at $3.26, resistance is at $3.35 and then at $3.39. August soybean futures are $8.98, with support at $8.94 and then at $8.88, resistance is at $9.00 and then at $9.06. Weather premium in the market was pulled back as the predicted dome of extreme heat and dryness didn’t develop adequate car-ryover supplies more than make up for any stress areas. Some parts of the eastern corn belt and southwest corn belt are stressed, but most of Iowa and Minnesota have good or near record crops. Soybeans are technically stuck in a trading range as we wait for a breakout in either direc-tion. Traditionally July rallies in soybeans are rallies to be sold. China has re-emerged as a strong buyer of U.S. soybeans, corn, and even some wheat. Corn purchases gave the market psychological support.

Commitments to China are now 74 million bushels. For the 2020-21 marketing year corn commitments are up 146 million bushels. China’s highest yearly purchases were 203 million bushels in the 2011/12 market-ing year. It’s tough for the market to get to optomisitc when the relation-ship between the U.S. and China is this stressed, with possible long-term consequences. This week both countries accused the other of “bullying” behavior. Issues are who’s to blame for this historic pandemic and Hong Kong autonomy, who controls the South China Sea, China’s persecution and possible genocide of an ethnic minority. If you have any contracts to price or grain to sell don’t wait until the end of August to pull the trigger. The market has a tenancy to put in lows at the end of August.

Feel free to contact Logan, Sam or myself with your marketing plans or concerns. Doug Uthe.

Cattle Cash cattle are $98 to $99, down $3 to $4 from last month. Market ready cattle supplies remain above year earlier levels with higher cattle weights due to previous Covid 19 slowing of slaughter plants.

Hogs Cash hogs are $32, up $2 from last month. Large supplies of heavy-weight hogs continue to pressure the market.

The community room will serve as a temporary location for the three year old preschool pro-gram until daycare addition is complete. The fourth phase involves adding a larger infant room onto the existing daycare and repurposing the current in-fant room into a 3-year-old pre-school. The fifth phase is reno-vating the remaining portion of the gym into a library, then wrapping up the project by finishing the parking lot and landscaping.

The committee is still actively fundraising, and the project will be done in phases as funding allows. The goal is to raise

$1.2 million with over $500,000 committed thus far.

“"The Coronavirus pandemic has slowed our fundraising but we still have been moving forward,” shared Erin Ludwig, committee member. Recent fundraising efforts have includ-ed: Fish Fry, Lottery Ticket & Grocery Raffle, Tossed & Found Grant, Library ERate funding, concession stand at Elma’s and Lourdes’s tractor pull, along with individual and business donations of time, supplies, and money.

“We will soon be launching a new campaign as we recently had a new donation that we are

needing to match which will hopefully allow us to proceed with the next phases of the project. All size donations are welcome and appreciated,” added Ludwig.
