Student Resource Scheme

Parents and Carers are directly responsible for providing textbooks and other resources for their children

while attending school. A Student Resource Scheme (SRS) enables students to temporarily use textbooks

and other equipment. It is designed to reduce costs through bulk purchasing, and as such is not considered

to be a deterrent for students enrolling at our school. The Student Resource Scheme operates under the

policy and guidelines of the Department of Education. The Scheme is voluntary, however, if you do not join

the scheme you are responsible for providing all texts and resources for your child. The school’s fees have

School Refund Policy

Refunds for Excursions and Camps

At Bribie Island State High School, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning

environment for students, staff and volunteers. This commitment includes the health and safety of staff

and students when conducting curriculum activities in the school or in other locations. School excursions

and camps enhance a student’s learning by providing opportunities for the student to participate in

activities, both curriculum-related and recreational, outside the normal school routine. All planned school

excursions are approved by the Principal and endorsed by the Parents and Citizens Association.

State schools are able to charge a fee for:

An educational service including materials and consumables not defined as instruction, administration and facilities for the education of the student;

An education service purchased from a provider other than the school where the provider charges the school; and

A specialised educational program.

A school fee is directed to the purpose for which it is charged. School fees for excursions and camps are

calculated on a cost recovery only basis, according to the number of students who have indicated their

attendance. Participation of students in an excursion or camp is indicated through payment of the

excursion or camp fee and provision of a permission form completed by the parent/carer.

As the school budget cannot meet any shortfalls in funding for an excursion or camp due to the subsequent

non-participation of a student who had previously indicated attendance of the activity, fees already paid

for an excursion or school camp may be refunded in full or in part or not at all, having regard to the

associated expenses incurred and the circumstances of the non-participation. For a full refund, please be

advised that notification of non-attendance must be received 14 days prior to an excursion and 21 days

prior to a camp. After this time, student numbers are confirmed with external providers and fees paid are

non-refundable.

Participation in School Sport is considered a school excursion and participation fees are charged on a cost

recovery basis. For a full refund, please be advised that notification of non-attendance must be received

14 days prior to the sporting event or the first game if the excursion includes a series games/activities.

After this time, student numbers are confirmed with external providers and fees paid are non-refundable.

Your excursion note will outline the fee payment and the required dates of participation.

Fees are calculated as close as possible to the expenses related directly to the excursion/incursion/camp

but at times a deficit or surplus of funds can occur. With the support of the school’s Parent and Citizens

Association, in the event of this occurring where the amount is under $3.00 per student the funds will be

redirected into a special project budget with projects to be approved by the Parent and Citizens Association;

when there is a deficit the program area will cover the shortfall from their individual faculty budgets.

In the event that there is a surplus greater than $3.00 per student but less than $10.00 the amount will be

applied to the student’s account as a credit. These funds can then be applied to outstanding school fees

or future excursions. In the event that an excursion is cancelled and a surplus greater than $10.00 per

student is generated, parents will be notified in writing and provided the option to request a refund or

credit the amount to the student account for future excursions or fees.

If a parent/carer wishes to apply for a refund due to their child’s non-participation in an excursion or camp

activity or a surplus from a previous excursion, they may do so by completing a Request for Refund form

available from the school office. Where possible, the request should include the receipt relating to the

payment for which a refund is being sought.

Refunds for School Fees

The school is notified of a student leaving through the completion of a student clearance form. All refunds

will be processed within 20 working days (excluding school holidays) upon receipt of the student clearance

form and the return of all school resources. Resources may include; laptops, chargers, library books,

musical instruments. Any lost or negligently damaged items will be charged to the parent prior to the

completion of the refund.

Student Resource Scheme (SRS) & Government Text Allowance

The SRS is refunded on a pro-rata basis to the parent of a student who, having paid a participation fee,

leaves the school through the year. The pro rata refund is calculated on the participation fee paid, less the

cost of consumed materials and the replacement cost of scheme items that are lost or negligently damaged

or not returned, plus the pro rata textbook and resource allowance calculated on the basis of a 40-week

school year. Please refer to http://ppr.det.qld.gov.au/corp/finance/services/Pages/Student-Resource-

Scheme.aspx for further information concerning SRS State Government policy.

User pays (subject fees)

User pays subject costs are refunded in full, pro-rata or not at all depending on the type of expense and

the left date of the student. Excursion user pays are refunded in-line with the excursion and camp refund

policy. All excursions that are yet to run and have not yet had numbers confirmed (more than 14 days prior

to event) will be refunded in full. All excursions will be refunded in full if non-attendance is notified 2 weeks

prior to the event.

Consumable charges are refunded on a pro-rata basis to the parent of a student who, having paid a user

pays fee, leaves the school through the year. The pro rata refund is calculated on the participation fee paid,

less the replacement cost of scheme items that are lost or negligently damaged or not returned. Refunds

are calculated on the basis of a 40-week school year.

Subject fees are charged in full/ refunded in full, if changes are made within the first two weeks of the year

(for full year charges) and within the first week of each semester (for semester charges).

Subject fees are not payable if students commence within the last two weeks of the school year. Students

who leave within the last two weeks of the School year will not receive a pro-rata refund of subject fees.

Bring your own device (BYOD)

The BYOD fee is a fee charged upon connection of home devices to the school network. The fee is non-

refundable after the initial network connection has been activated.

Certificate Courses through External Providers

The school will offer certificate courses through external providers from time to time. Currently,

certificates/subjects are offered through Binnacle Training, Brisbane School of Distance Education and Cairns

School of Distance Education and Volunteering QLD. Please select these subjects carefully and review the

providers refund policy closely. The school can only provide refunds based on the policy of each provider. Many

providers have ‘no refund’ policies or have short timeframes to notify non-participation/cancellation of

enrolment.
