Tribune Advertising Policies
POLICY
A. It is agreed that the advertiser and/or advertising agency or agency accepts full responsibility and
liability for advertisements in the Tribune.
B. Position requests will be noted, but cannot be guaranteed. Paid position is available.
C. Composition or artwork by the Tribune is the property of the Tribune and may not be reproduced
without written permission. Material or creative ideas supplied by the advertiser remain the property of
the advertiser.
D. Advertisers are responsible for checking their ads the first day of publication and immediately
notifying The Bismarck Tribune of any errors with copy and/or illustration. The Bismarck Tribune liability is
limited to a correction, if requested, or credit for the first day of publication and only for that portion of
the ad which may be rendered valueless by such error. Claims for adjustments must be made within
36 hours after publication. The Bismarck Tribune accepts the responsibility for publishing each ad
correctly as determined by original copy and if submitted on or before deadline. The Tribune will not
accept liability for changes in copy after the ad has been proofed.
E. The Bismarck Tribune reserves the right to alter or adapt the advertising to conform to standards of
ethics and good taste and to accept or reject any advertising at any time.
F. Extra labor charges will be made for changes after ads have been set according to original
instructions.
G. Payment of unpaid balance plus cash with copy is required for all “Going Out Of Business” ads.
H. Payment in full due the 10th of the month following publication.
I. All political advertisements must be paid in advance.
J. The Bismarck Tribune reserves the right to short rate and adjust contracts for nonfulfillment at the
appropriate rate for actual performance.
K. The Bismarck Tribune reserves the right to modify or alter this rate structure by notifying the Advertiser
30 days in advance of the effective date of said modification.
L. Rates provided cover only advertising relating to regular business of an individual advertiser and are
not transferable in whole or part to any other advertiser. All rates are net and not commissionable.
COPY REGULATIONS
A. The Tribune reserves the right to reject or revise any advertisement which it deems objectionable,
either in subject matter or phrasing.

CPM (Cost-per-thousand) - media term describing the cost of 1,000 impressions. For example, a
website that charges $1,500 per ad and reports 50,000 impressions has a CPM of $30 ($1,500
divided by 50).
CPV (Cost-per-View) - media term describing the cost for each view of a video online. The amount
may vary based on if the advertiser chooses partial views or full views of the video.
Demographics - statistical information including age, income, gender, etc.
DMA (Designated Market Area) - may be an established market area or custom build with specific

Fold - the line below which a user has to scroll to see content not immediately visible when a web
page loads in a browser. Ads or content displayed “above-the-fold” are visible without any end-
user interaction. Monitor size and resolution determine where on a webpage the fold lies. Others
“span-the-fold” - middle page or “below-the-fold”- bottom section.
Frequency - the number of times an ad is delivered to the same browser in a single session or time
period.
Inventory - the number of impressions available for sale on a website.
Page View - when the page has actually been seen by the reader.
