Iowa State University Research and Demonstration FarmsResearchers and educators in Iowa’s fieldsLand, climate and agricultural enterprises vary considerably from one area of the state to another. To find solutions to problems in each area and to study the impacts of regional differences, the Iowa Agriculture Experiment Station puts researchers and educators in the fields of research farms across Iowa. Farms near Ames are used for intensive studies and for teaching purposes.

More than 130 Iowa State faculty members use the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ farms for teaching, research and extension. Each year about 2,000 students receive hands-on education experiences and nearly 15,000 people visit Iowa State’s Research and Demonstration Farms. Learn more at http://farms.ag.iastate.edu

Knowledge in Every FieldEach growing season farmers face unforeseen challenges. Extreme weather, unanticipated pests, unknown soil conditions- all these factors can interfere with producing an exceptional crop. Farmers contact field agronomists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach asking for help to sort out crop issues and find ways to lessen their detrimental effect on yields.

Field agronomists are members of a team of integrated cropping systems specialists at Iowa State University who focus on how crop production interacts with soil, weather, cover crops, crop rotation and management practices and support farmers‘ use of data-driven technologies in precision agriculture.

To contact an ISU Extension field agronomist serving your area visit www.extension.iastate.edu/ag/crops or call your county Extension office.
