STAYING STRONG TOGETHER – WESFARMERS’ RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 CRISIS Naomi Flutter, Executive General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Wesfarmers Limited Wesfarmers is one of Australia’s largest employers with a diverse range of businesses, including Bunnings, Officeworks, Kmart and Target, and interests in chemicals, energy and fertilisers, and industrial safety products. During the coronavirus lockdown, most of Wesfarmers operations in Australia stayed open. Naomi will discuss the strategies the Wesfarmers Group employed to respond to this unprecedented and rapidly evolving situation. Naomi’s responsibilities include communications, sustainability, government relations, community partnerships and Indigenous affairs. Before Wesfarmers, she worked for Deutsche Bank for 20 years in various Australian and Asian roles. She holds honours degrees in Economics and Law from the Australian National University and a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F Kennedy School of Government. Naomi currently serves as Pro Chancellor at the Australian National University. He has had extensive experience in local government following a long career in the Australian Army. Stephen has a genuine passion for excellence in reporting and has been responsible for annual reports that have achieved over 70 awards at state, national and international levels. While his roots are in local government reporting, he now focuses much of this attention on public sector reporting at the Federal level. Hendrik Lianto CPA has more than ten years’ experience in reviewing and preparing annual reports. He was an auditor with the Audit Office of NSW prior to enhancing his career with Corrective Services NSW and Transport for NSW in various roles including Risk & Compliance Manager and Finance Transformation Manager. He joined ARA in 2015. He will discuss the steps to preparing a stand-out annual report.

Jeffrey Davey, Managing Director of Design Davey, has an in-depth understanding of the annual report process from concept to delivery. He will discuss the importance of design in the strategy of preparing an annual report and provide tips. Reporting has changed significantly in recent years and it’s never been more important to standout and engage your audience. Designing a successful cover for an annual report can be tricky.

Andrew Inwood, Chief Executive Officer, CoreData Research

Andrew Inwood unpacks the mechanics of trust and looks at what the research is saying about how trust works. Andrew has more than 30 years’ experience in the Australian financial services industry. He started his career at Rothschild Australia Asset Management where he headed the marketing team, before moving to AMP Investments where he spent more than a decade. During his time at AMP he was seconded to Virgin Direct in the UK to help establish the finance and investment arm of the group. He returned to Australia to be marketing director of Wizard Home Loans. From Wizard he moved to Telstra where he spent three years as general manager of applications and hosted services, before leaving to start CoreData. In the past 18 years, CoreData has expanded out of Sydney to offices in Perth, London, Boston and Manila and to focus on how customers act and behave including a focus on how trust works and how it is built and lost by companies. Andrew is the author of more than 100 pieces of significant research into clients and their behaviour and has a particular focus on the value of the client experience in financial services. Outside of work Andrew is a keen ocean swimmer and sailor. He has completed the 26-mile Lanai to Maui Swim in Hawaii, races regularly in Sydney harbour and has competed in every significant ocean race in Australia.

Excellence in annual reporting is achieved by thoroughly addressing a variety of categories of information.This session will look at two specific categories: sustainability and performance in work health and safety

Robyn Leeson has more than 25 years experience in the sustainability field – in government agencies and as a consultant to businesses and industry bodies. Her focus is on the development and application of disclosure frameworks and standards, particularly in ESG. She has served on multiple governance bodies of the Global Reporting Initiative and is currently Vice-Chair of the GSSB.

Robyn will briefly explore a few common themes in reporting. What’s the relationship between disclosure and building trust? What constitutes good practice in reporting on sustainability? Are there practical tips to share? What’s next in reporting? Where are the various standards heading?

Soraya Dean is a stakeholder engagement and sustainability strategist. She is a Masters graduate with more than a decade’s experience in stakeholder engagement, non-profit management, policy development and lobbying and corporate sustainability consulting. In her current role, Soraya project manages NAB’s sustainability reporting, sustainability ratings and impact measurement.Soraya will provide an overview of NAB’s sustainability reporting approach. She will outline how the process enhances transparency, drives better business performance and helps earn stakeholder trust.

Sharron O’Neill has expertise in the design, measurement and reporting of performance measures for organisational governance and accountability with a particular focus on Work Health and Safety performance measurement and reporting. Sharron chaired the Global Reporting Initiative’s international GRI403 project working group to develop the current global OHS reporting standard and has written guidance for WHS measurement and reporting. She also advises government, investors, directors and industry executives on WHS performance measurement and reporting.
