I would like to thank Tina and the entire office staff for their hard work and extra diligence in managing the parish administrative and communication tasks in the midst of this difficult time. Without Tina's leadership many administrative necessities would fall behind. They do so much to facilitate keeping the light of Christ available to the St. Mark community, and now even to visitors in other parishes across the country. It is greatly appreciated.
Fr. Rafal
We’re so pleased that you come to Our Lady’s prayer garden at this time when you cannot come into the church. We do ask visitors to leave the garden as it is found.
A space is provided in front of Bernadette for you to place your flowers but recently some have been planted in the ground. When plants are added, it tears the fabric (underneath the landscape) which controls the weeds. Rosaries and other ornaments have also been left, including rocks that become trip hazards.
The garden is designed with plants that can be managed in the space they are in, without overgrowing.
While we appreciate your desire to honor Our Mother, the best honor you can give her is to come to pray and enjoy the beauty, not to change it. Please do not leave anything other than the flowers you bring and place near Bernadette.

Good Shepherd Sunday
Acts of the Apostles 2:14, 36-41 | 1 Peter 2:20-25 | John 10:1-10
Gospel Jesus said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate but climbs over elsewhere
is a thief and a robber. But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” Although Jesus used this figure of speech, the Pharisees did not realize what he was trying to tell them.
So Jesus said again, “Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”
1. We hear that Jesus is the ‘Good Shepherd” Who knows and is known by His sheep. How do you experience Jesus’ shepherding care in your own life?
2. How do you see Jesus as the Good Shepherd? Are you learning to identify the voice of the Good Shepherd in your life? Do you realize that He does know you by name?
3. Do you also see yourself as a good shepherd? Have you ever shepherded someone who perhaps does not hear the voice of Jesus, and is following another voice? Reflect on how you responded to him/her and what you did correctly in shepherding. Would you do anything in a different way?
4. Jesus stated to the Pharisees that His sheep will not follow a stranger, “…because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” Do you believe that you hear the stranger at times in your life? What do you do, or what can do, to recognize His voice instead?
5. You are allowed to “roam about the pastures with free will”, but when you are called, do you recognize His voice, or do you stay out in the pastures thinking you are free?

This group of ministries is comprised of altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, ushers and music ministries. These individual ministries are an intricate part of each celebration of the Solemnity of the Holy Mass. It is here where we gather together as a community to recall Jesus' death and resurrection.
Through this complete celebration of scripture and song, we give thanks and praise to Our Lord. At the same time, we, the community, are being nourished and strengthened by the gift of the Holy Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is the center of our faith.
We should always approach this celebration of Holy Mass with reverence and respect to Our Eucharistic Lord for His ultimate sacrifice and unconditional love.
Members are at work year round preparing for each liturgical service. The altar cloths and linens are cleaned and prepared for each celebration according to the liturgical calendar. The cloths used by the celebrants, the purificators and corporals, are cleaned and ironed weekly. The joy of serving the Lord in this ministry never ends. It only requires good will and loving hands.

This is an important ministry of both prayer and
service. Altar servers assist the priest at the altar and in
other ways during Mass and other liturgical activities.
Servers are called to be special visible models of a
prayerful spirit. Training is
provided.

[Note from the Editor. This is the second edition of Ministry Highlights. As we started last week, we’re taking this “quiet” opportunity to highlight our ministries. This will allow you to become more familiar with a variety of ways to grow in faith and fellowship here at St. Mark. If you’re interested in more information or want to join any of these ministries, the contact person’s email is included. I’m sure you’d be welcome to join and then celebrate together once this pandemic is over! Look for more next week.]

Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)
are needed to assist the clergy in distributing the
Body and Precious Blood of our Lord. It requires
training and commitment from each who is called
to serve in this ministry.
Prior to becoming an EMHC, three requirements
must be met.
1. Concerning the Sacrament of Marriage:
a. Those married must be in a sacramental union.
b. If divorced and remarried, an annulment by
the Church is required.
2. All EMHC must complete the Safe Environment
Training on line.
3. Whether serving from the altar, serving in the
ministry to the sick, or serving at communion
services, EMHCs must first attend a training class
to receive a mandate from the bishop of our
diocese. The mandate is valid for five years.
Every spring and fall a list of classes is posted
in the ministry room along with applications.
Here are the steps to become an EMHC.
a. Complete an application.
b. Place it in the mail box for EMHC.
c. After a review it is sent to the priest for
signature.
d. The application is sent to the diocese for
registration along with a check from the parish
to pay for the training.
e. Approved applicants attend diocesan training.
f. When the mandate is approved, complete in-
house training takes place to learn the specific
process here at St. Mark.
g. Those serving in the ministry to the sick or
Communion services must pass a background
check, which includes fingerprinting.
Approximately 200 EMHC volunteers serve at St. Mark
and as our parish grows our need increases. Some
EMHC are "snow birds" and all have other activities
that they are committed to do such as travel, and
family. The need is great.

The Mass book minister is responsible for preparing
the Mass readings, intentions and prayers of the
faithful for use by the priest, deacon and lectors.
The multi-media ministry contributes to the
enhancement of the celebration of Mass at St. Mark.
It consists of two teams. The first will develop the
projected images displayed during Mass, including the
congregation's responses, hymn lyrics, Mass prayers
and other special presentations. The second team
operates the sound and projection equipment in the
church for holy day and weekend Masses. Training
sessions for both teams are provided.

This very important element in our parish community's
celebration has been blessed with many musically
talented parishioners. All Masses and many special
events throughout the year are served by this ministry.
There are a variety of opportunities including cantors,
choir and ensemble groups and instrumentalists.
The cantor is a singer, proclaimer, liturgical minister
and spiritual leader, a person of prayer, comfortable
and confident in front of the assembly, and has some
formal training as a singer and as a musician. Auditions
and rehearsals with the director are required.
The choir exercises its own liturgical function, ensuring
that the parts proper to it, in keeping with the different
types of songs, are properly carried out, and fostering

the active participation of the faithful through singing.
Reading music is not required. Singing soprano, alto,
tenor or bass is required, depending on voice range.
Ensembles are small groups of singers and instrumentalists
who lead the assembly at the 4:00 PM Saturday liturgy.
The ensemble also plays and sings for special occasions.
Singers, guitarists, keyboard players, and other
instrumentalists are welcome.
The instrumentalists accompany the singers and play
music by themselves. Instrumental music is ministerial,
helping the assembly to rejoice, to weep, to be of one
mind, to be converted, and to pray.
You are cordially invited to join and participate in any
of our music ministries. You will be offering your
special gift to our assembly, while also becoming
a part of a musical family.

Through the readers ministry, God continues to feed
His people at the Table of the Word. Through our
readers, God's living word continues to be proclaimed
to all His people, young and old, to the troubled, to the
happy, to those in need of a challenge, and to those in
need of comfort.
Our task is like that of the sower who generously casts
the seeds on the earth. Perhaps only a few seeds will
take root, but that is a very important part of spreading
God's message to all who will hear Him.
One-on-one training is provided to all new readers in
the ministry. We stress pronunciation, preparation,
understanding, voice quality/volume, and eye contact.
We keep readers up-to-date via email for liturgical
changes including scheduling changes as dictated by
the pastor.

The duties of the sacristans are varied and diverse.
They prepare the altar for the celebration of the Mass,
as well as set up for other liturgical celebrations. The
set-up for Mass includes choosing the correct chalice
for the celebrant, the correct number of ciboria for
the Hosts, the correct goblets for the Precious Blood,
the appropriate cloths, and additional items required
for a funeral or benediction. At the conclusion of the
celebration, the sacristan takes care of the vessels
used during the Mass. Training and written instructions
are provided.

Ushers are called upon to provide a very special service
of hospitality as their liturgical ministry. They are the
first people to greet and welcome those who come to
participate in the celebration of the Eucharist. In
addition to this important duty, they are also
responsible for taking up the collection, directing the
Eucharistic procession during the Mass and distributing
the parish bulletins and other materials after Mass.
Training is provided and volunteers are always
welcome.

The spiritual life ministries focus on developing a personal relationship with Jesus and each Person of the Blessed
Trinity. This is accomplished through prayer, adoration, study, personal sharing and by performing corporal
works of charity. Get involved and experience the Love of the Trinity as They live in you and help you share your
life with others.
Our group's purpose basically is to “Pray For Our
Priests.” Our Lady calls them her “Beloved Sons” and
asked a humble priest, by the name of Stefano Gobbi,
to begin a movement to gather her priests together
to form her “cohort” against the evils in the world.
The book “To the Priests, Our Lady's Beloved Sons”
contains messages Our Lady gave to Fr. Gobbi from
1973-1997. It is how she chose to carry her voice to
the hearts and souls of her children, a guide for
helping them to live the consecration to her
Immaculate Heart. Her plan is to lead all souls back
to Jesus. She has asked that the laity, and especially
families and children, be included in her movement.
The Cenacle comprises a rosary, song, meditation,
consecration, petitions and thanksgiving, and ends
with a reading of Our Lady's words from her “Book.”
Meetings are Wednesday evenings at 5:00 PM in
the leader’s home.

The Breath of God Charismatic Prayer Group meets
each Monday in the parish hall at
6:30 PM and celebrates Mass
together once a month. As baptized
Catholics we have all received the
Holy Spirit, and again at
Confirmation and every time we
receive the Eucharist. Come and join
us at the prayer meeting to learn
more how we are empowered by
the Holy Spirit and are given grace
to live and become more like Jesus.
Who we are and what we do...
The purpose of our meeting is to give honor, glory,
praise and thanksgiving to God the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit through song, praise, Scripture reading and
teachings, and by witnessing as to how God is showing
His presence in our lives.
The prayer meeting is Spirit-led and follows this
general order:
1. Opening songs
2. Opening prayer
3. Praise and worship in the tongues of men and
of angels
4. Silent Time - allow quiet time for God to speak
to us
5. Reading and/or teaching
6. Sharing
7. Petitions
8. Closing prayer
9. Closing song We are a Catholic charismatic prayer group and, while
we welcome all Christian believers, we maintain our
Catholic faith and traditions. If you have never been
to a charismatic prayer meeting, please make yourself
known to one of the prayer leaders
so that we can welcome you and explain what
is going on. We are all empowered by the Holy
Spirit and given gifts. We encourage you to
share your gifts at the prayer meeting. We are
all “One Body” with different gifts and it takes
each of us sharing our gifts to grow as a
Christian community.

The Emmaus experience is a retreat based on the
Gospel of Luke, Chapter 24; “Journey to Emmaus’ in
which two disciples are walking along the road, and
Jesus joins them, but they do not recognize Him. So
often in life we fail to recognize the presence of Jesus
in our daily lives. We lose sight of the fact that He is
always by our side walking with us. The Emmaus
experience fosters an environment in which it
becomes more obvious that we never walk alone.

The mission of Worldwide Marriage Encounter
(WWME) is to proclaim the value of marriage and
Holy Orders in the church and in the world. The
purpose of WWME is to assist happily married couples
to make their good marriages even better. Frequently
in a marriage of 5-7 years, careers, raising children,
and life in general intervene in a couple’s relationship.
The goal of Marriage Encounter is to restore
communication, renew commitment and rekindle
romance.
On a local level, married couples who desire to
make their good marriages better attend a Marriage
Encounter weekend to revive the feeling that they
were experiencing when they decided to get married.
The weekend is facilitated by a WWME priest along
with two or three encountered couples and is usually
attended by 20-30 couples in a
hotel-type environment.
During the weekend,
communication techniques
are demonstrated and
practiced.
After the weekend is over
there are on-going monthly
meetings, called Circles or
Images, held by WWME
couples who continue to work
on improving their couple-
communication.
WWME is not designed to
rescue a troubled marriage.
Another organization, Retrouvaille, pronounced
‘re-tro-vi’ (with a long i) can be helpful for this purpose.
