➢Grant – money given, usually because of financial need.
➢Scholarship – money awarded for academic achievement or an outstanding talent or skill.
➢Work Study – money earned by working at a part-time job provided by the college.
➢Loan – money that must be repaid.
Who can get federal student aid?
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident orfill out CA Dream Act Application
• High school graduate/GED holder
• Eligible degree/certificate program
• Valid Social Security number
• Males registered for Selective Service
• Satisfactory academic progress
What other kinds of financial aid can I look for?
• There are private scholarships that have their own eligibility criteria.
• Be sure you know what you need to do to qualify. Apply early and often.
• FUSD high schools have scholarship programs for graduating seniors.
How much student aid can I get?
In general, it depends on your financial need.
• Financial need determined by Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and cost of attendance (COA)
• EFC comes from what you report on FAFSA or CADAA
• COA is tuition, fees, room and board, transportation, etc.
COA – EFC = financial need
