Thank you for your leadership and your investment in United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley (UWCV). For more than 70 years, UWCV has brought our community together to create positive change in the lives of our neighbors.

In 2019, you helped us set our all-time high for campaign fundraising, enabling us to have an extraordinary impact in our community.

Though times are difficult and uncertain right now, we know that our community is resilient and strong, and we have seen countless examples of unity in the face of these unprecedented challenges.

Since mid-March the Coronavirus Response Fund, a partnership between The Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley and UWCV has raised more than $1.7 million and granted back more than $1 million to the community. These funds have been granted to fill gaps in critical need services for vulnerable populations.

In recent months, UWCV’s focus has also been drawn to issues of structural racism and injustice in our society. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to publicly declare that the staff and board of UWCV are United Against Racism and United for Equity.

UWCV is grateful for your amazing generosity, and we look forward to the year ahead of continuing to Live United in This Together.

CHANGE DOESN’T HAPPEN ALONE! We could not be more grateful to all of our donors and volunteers who make the Chattahoochee Valley an incredible community. We have come a long way since our first campaign in 1951, but the compassion our community holds for caring about its neighbor has always stayed true. We are proud that our community Lives United and knows that together we win.

Tocqueville Society Members invest $10,000 or more annually to the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. Last year, these individuals invested $1.7 million with United Way, demonstrating their commitment to making our community a better place for us all to live. Thank you to our 800+ Leadership Level Donors, for giving $1,000 or more. Your generosity truly reflects how large our philanthropic base is in our community. We could not do this without each one of you who donates to United Way. Your dollars are helping change lives.

Thank you to our incredible Campaign Volunteers that get out in the community, donate their valuable time and help raise money for our community. With the support of our 31 Cabinet Members, 128 Employee Campaign Coordinators and 13 Loaned Executives, we were able to exceed our goal and have a record campaign. We are so grateful for you all and the invaluable work you do for the Chattahoochee Valley.

Check out our website for a list of donors at unitedwayofthecv.org

Thank you for your generous support of United Way. The 2019 campaign was a huge success, with a record level of support to

invest back into our community. To reach our goal working alongside our community partners, volunteers and donors was an incredibly rewarding experience. The Chattahoochee Valley is truly a great place to live, work and serve. This year’s campaign theme “Change Doesn’t Happen Alone” could not have been more appropriate. It takes all of us working together to improve the lives of the people we serve. Thank you again for your generous and heartfelt support. We couldn’t do it without each and every one of you.”

On March 16, 2020, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley and Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley partnered to launch the Coronavirus Response Fund to provide flexible resources to organizations in the Columbus area working with our most vulnerable citizens. These populations include members of communities who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the economic consequences of this outbreak. This philanthropic response works closely with government, business partners and other philanthropic resources to help the Response Fund rapidly deploy resources to community-based organizations (CBOs) at the front lines of our area’s current Coronavirus pandemic.

United Way and the Community Foundation host weekly Coronavirus Community Calls. From this call, we have addressed issues and identified new needs and gaps in

services, helped agencies fill critical need for volunteers, develop solutions to provide meals to students during school breaks, quickly open an emergency shelter to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and increase collaborations to serve more people in new, creative, and effective ways.

In the first four months, the Fund has made grants totaling $1,021,782! Of the grant total, we’ve made 61 grants to 44 different organizations, ranging from Feeding the Valley to the Lee-Russell Aging Foundation and from St. Anne Community Outreach to the YMCA. We’re rebuilding for better, more equitable and more resilient communities. Thank you to all of those that gave to the Coronavirus Response Fund! It is critical that we prepare for, respond to, and ultimately help our communities emerge stronger from this.

While this year is challenging for everyone, it has also been an

opportunity for our community to come together in an amazing way. I am excited to be part of the positive change happening right now in our community through United Way. It will take all of us—families, neighbors, and colleagues—working together, to build a thriving and equitable Chattahoochee Valley. Join me in this exciting journey and let’s be United In This Together! ”

We are excited to announce our 2020/2021 Campaign United In This Together. 2020 has thrown a lot of obstacles our way, but has also shown us that the Chattahoochee Valley comes together during challenging times.

YOU allowed us to serve those most vulnerable through the Global Pandemic. The Coronavirus Response Fund, held in partnership with The Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, helped our community with response and relief. Now we are looking ahead to recovery, and the way our community will do that is with our network of partners and generous donors through the upcoming campaign. Our focus has shifted with the community need, but that need is still great and we need your support more than ever. Visit our website to find out how to get more involved today.

The United Way Legacy Society honors those who commit to a planned gift—building a stronger community now and in the future. Legacy Leaders partner with United Way to solve problems we cannot imagine today.

Gifts to the Legacy Society provide a stable stream of funding, allowing us to continue the work that is already started and expand to new and emerging areas of need. With your help, we will continue to create change for future generations. Leave a legacy and invest in the future.

For more information on planned giving, contact Chandra Wright, 706.327.3255 ext 1009 or [email protected].

United Way is focused on four priority areas that we believe are essential building blocks for a great life: Basic Needs, Income, Health and Education. Our approach is unique because we invest in programs that meet a need, achieve results and are good stewards of resources. Volunteers, who are donors and leaders, review and assess programs to determine funding. Each year, people across our community benefit from programs and initiatives made possible through generous contributions. This year, United Way funding ensured help was available to meet the growing needs across our community.

Home for Good functions as the bridge between service providers, as well as services providers and clients. Home for Good assures the efficient and effective use of a collaborative system to move individuals or families from homelessness to permanent, stable housing. Because of the collaborative work between Home for Good and our partner agencies, as of March 2020, the average number of people experiencing homelessness on the By Name List is down 15% from the previous 12 month period.

Read United matches volunteers with third graders to help develop language and literacy skills. Since the launch of the program in 2017, all participating students improved their grade level in reading.

Youth United and United Way Youth Camp are two initiatives that help students learn about the needs in our community, understand the importance of volunteering and grow as leaders. The juniors and seniors of Youth United positively impacted the community by donating funds they raised over the year to feed students during Spring Break. United Way Youth Camp hosts 21 seventh graders for a three-day event that includes volunteer projects, agency tours and leadership development.

YOUTH INITIATIVES

The Community School Strategy is a partnership between United Way and local school districts to transform schools into a place where students, families, staff and the surrounding community work together to ensure all students thrive. Our strategy focuses on the whole child by providing academic support, social emotional learning, health and wellness, family and community engagement and a safe and supportive climate. This strategy is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2020, with Dorothy Height Elementary selected as the first school for full-service implementation.

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

The first three years of life can have the greatest impact on a child’s learning, with 80% of brain growth occurring during this time. The Basics are five fun, simple and effective principles that every parent and caregiver can use to help children have a great start in life. The Basics is working with community stakeholders and partners to implement this initiative. Become involved and discover more at cv.thebasics.org. The Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley is using its unrestricted Community Endowment Funds to underwrite the first three years of the operating budget of The Basics, until 2023, in a belief that early investment in our youngest citizens offers our community the best chance to reduce poverty and maximize success. The Nguyen Family
