Starlite Trio

The Starlite Trio was formed in 2017 to present classic songs of love and beauty. The trio, with Jillian Lebeck Noriega on piano, James Meger on bass and John Gross, the leader, onsaxophone, grooves to danceable, hummable tunes from the Great American Songbookfrom the 1920s to today. Song composers include George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, JoanieMitchell (yes, she is revered as a jazz artist among jazz musicians!), Bill Evans, DukeEllington, Antonio Carlos Jobim — a hit list from all of the Americas, where jazz was born.Jillian Lebeck Noreiga’s piano work has been described as loaded with the “seduction of

serenity... strongly humane... gentility rules” (All About Jazz, 2004). James Meger’s playingon bass is known for its intuitive grace and swing (Coastal Jazz, 2014). Leader John Gross isa legendary player who has collaborated with renowned composers such as Dave Frishberg(Peel Me a Grape), accompanied storied singers such as Johnny Mathis, Stevie Wonder, andRosemary Clooney, and topped jazz charts countless times throughout his career as a soloistand recording artist in the US and Canada. Since his move to Vancouver in 2016, he hasjoyfully participated in Vancouver’s vital jazz scene, especially playing with the youngergeneration. While members of the Trio are notable individual performers on Vancouver’s active jazz

scene, with bands of their own and extensive recording careers, this trio provides them achance to play tunes they love, and to share their delight in the history and legacy of jazzmusic.
