The Geospatial Intelligence Research Lab works in all aspects of geospatial intelligence and human security. Our research in these areas includes theoretical constructs, quantitative and qualitative approaches, regional analyses, and geographic information technologies including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and data mining. Geospatial Intelligence is defined for these purposes as the collection, processing, interpretation, analysis, and visualization of geographically referenced data in an effort to produce information deemed valuable for human security application.

‘Diversity in MAPPS’ was a fruitful topic at the Winter 2019 MAPPS Conference. This follow-on session will address the benefits and approaches to hiring individuals with special needs to meet our collective need for employees. Our industry is strong and many of us have trouble filling open positions given historically low unemployment rates. This session will discuss available resources to consider, provide MAPPS member experiences in hiring people with special needs, and identify the benefits to using such an approach.

Describing the history, purpose and upcoming opportunities of the National Agricultural Imagery Program will close out the 2019 MAPPS Summer Conference. This conversational panel consists of experts from the Aerial Photography Field Office, US Forest Service, Utah Division of Water Resources, MAPPS Legislative Affairs and a NAIP contractor. The objective of this sessions is to demonstrate the importance of NAIP, and its evolution from an aerial photograph to a high demand GIS data set.
