My family and I are officially moved into a house north of Guthrie Center, although we are still searching for things like the sugar. My wife, Donna, is a Math Consultant for Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency. She provides professional development and instructional coaching for K-12 math teachers. Our oldest son, Benjamin, will be a sophomore at Iowa State this fall. He is majoring in Animal Science and plans to become a veterinarian with an emphasis in sheep. EmmaKay, will be a junior at AC/GC. She is very active in FFA and loves basketball and softball. Jarrett, our youngest, will be in 8th grade and is looking forward to playing 11-man football with his new classmates. Finally, Viking, EmmaKay’s dog, is enjoying not living on a busy highway and has scared off most of the raccoons. There have been a few updates to the buildings this summer. The high school commons will have a new air conditioning system this fall. The high school art room will get new cabinets on the south wall prior to school starting and cabinets on the other walls will be installed over winter break. The parking lot at the Adair/Casey campus is being patched and repainted. In accordance with state and federal law, the Guthrie Center Community School District and the Adair-Casey School District adopts the following policy to ensure school district employees, families, and students have a shared understanding of expectations regarding meal charges. The policy seeks to allow students to receive the nutrition they need to stay focused during the school day, prevent the overt identification of students with insufficient funds to pay for school meals, and maintain the financial integrity of the nonprofit school nutrition program. Payment of Meals Students have use of a meal account. When the balance reaches $0.00 a student may not be allowed any ala carte items or seconds. A family balance may not exceed negative $25.00. When an account reaches this limit, a student shall not be allowed to charge further meals until the negative account balance is paid. Families may add money to student accounts by using JMC electronic payment system or by paying with cash or check at the school office. Students who qualify for free meals shall never be denied a reimbursable meal, even if they have accrued a negative balance from previous purchases. Students with outstanding meal charge debt shall be allowed to purchase a meal if the student pays for the meal when it is received. The school district may provide an alternate meal to students who have charged the maximum allowance to the student account and cannot pay out of pocket for a meal. Employees may use a charge account for meals, but may charge no more than $10.00 to this account. When an account reaches this limit, an employee shall not be allowed to charge further meals or a la carte items until the negative account balance is paid. Negative Account Balances The school district will make reasonable efforts to notify families when meal account balances are low. Additionally, the school district will make reasonable efforts to collect unpaid meal charges classified as delinquent debt. The school district will coordinate communications with families to resolve the matter of unpaid charges. Families will be notified of an outstanding negative balance by notes or letters sent home, email, telephone calls or texts. Negative balances not paid prior to the end of the school year will be turned over to the superintendent or superintendent’s designee for collection. Options may include: collection agencies, small claims court, or any other legal method permitted by law.

The May meeting of the AC/GC Booster Club was held on May 1, 2019 in the high school library. There were seven members in attendance. President Kim Betts called the meeting to order. Julie Plowman read the minutes of the previous meeting. Crystal Hanson presented the Treasurer’s Report. Both reports were approved. There were no funding requests approved this past month. In New Business, Suzanne Holmes-Bunde reported the 2019 summer baseball/softball concession stand schedule sign-up is now available on the school website. She will hand out scholarship applications to the Class of 2020 in the upcoming week. Members of the 2020 class may sign up on the concessions schedule to start earning scholarship hours. Suzanne will contact the photographer to schedule a date for the Class of 2020 senior photo on the Charger Pride Poster. Julie Plowman will present scholarship awards to the Class of 2019 at the May 15th Awards Night. Also in New Business, Melissa Shadlow announced she will now be the chairperson for the Charger Pride Poster and sponsorship letters. Additionally, the dates of Adair Chuckwagon Days and Casey’s 150th Sesquicentennial were announced. The club will have a walking banner entry in both parades. Senior scholarship participants in the Class of 2020 may earn hours by walking with the

entry. Members voted unanimously to discontinue the Homecoming Raffle, due to the small number of ticket sales. Lastly, the possible installation of closed caption television in the outdoor concession stand was introduced. Workers in the stand would be able to view the various events being held while working inside the stand. Dave Faucher, High School Technology Director, is looking further into the cost and set-up of the project. Members also discussed the installation of a ceiling fan in the outdoor concession stand. This idea will be discussed further next month. Derek Sargent made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Crystal Hanson seconded the motion. The next meeting will be held on June 5th at 6:00 in the high school library. Respectfully submitted,
