SimultaneousDeterminationofCalciumchannelblockersusingKanakcolumns

Calciumchannelblockers(CCB)orCalciumantagonistsare group of prescribed cardiovascular medicationsused for treating high blood pressure and angina,arrhythmia and Raynaud`s phenomenon (a conditionin which arteries in the hands and feet arenarrowed)1,2. They prevent calcium from enteringcardiacandbloodvesselwalls3.

This CCBs can be determined by various techniqueslike mass-spectrometric4, thin-layer chromatographic5,radioreceptorassay6,gaschromatographic7and liquidchromatographic methods8. These methods focus onthe analysis of individual drugs. However, fortherapeutic treatment combined therapy is used9 andthus, development of analytical method capable ofsimultaneous determination is important10.Simultaneousdeterminationofthesedrugscanalsobeuseful in forensic toxicology to gain informationconcerning which drugs have been ingested prior todeath9.The exhaustive literature survey revealed thatmost of the earlier analytical methods suffer a lack ofspecificityandselectivity.SomeofthemethodslikeGCand HPLC include laborious liquid-liquid and solid-phase extraction procedures to give adequate sampleclean-up, thereby increasing the complexity and timerequired for analysis. Liquid chromatography–massspectrometryandliquidchromatography–tandemmassspectrometry (LC/MS/MS) are expensive and thusunavailableinmanylaboratories
