QUALITY GRASS SEED MIXTURES
2019
GRASS SEEDINTRODUCTION & CONTENTS
02
Looking forward to 2019 agriculture faces many challenges not least to maximise production from home grown forage. With such volatile commodity pricing, forward planning becomes ever more difficult. This is one key reason why UK livestock farmers can, by good planning, secure quality forage through embracing the best technology at their disposal.

The 2018 season has highlighted the importance of regenerating any old underperforming grassland. Young and productive grass swards have had a greater tolerance to the extremed weather experienced throughout the UK in 2018. With forage stocks still not fully replenished in some cases, re-seeding any existing old leys in 2019 should be at the top of livestock farmers agendas.
GRASS SEED
04
All seed varieties used in Technisward mixtures are produced to the very highest standards which are far higher than the HVS minimum. This applies to both germination and freedom from weeds such as Couch, Blackgrass and Docks.
Varieties endorsed in the recommended lists are used in these mixtures

Fibre energy is the most important parameterfor the maintenance of rumen pH. As grass matures itsdigestibility falls thus leading to lower production fromforage. Technisward mixtures feature varieties that haveenhanced fi bre energy so providing the optimum combination of forage quality and yield in the sward for grazing or conservation.
HEALTHY RUMEN = PRODUCTIVE LIVESTOCK
Water soluble carbohydratesWater Soluble Carbohydrates (WSC) are essential forcorrect rumen function. WSC’s are found within thegrass plant cell. WSC’s are readily available to the rumenmicrobes & break down quickly. However too much tooquickly can lead to lowering of the rumen pH & lead tosub - acute rumen acidosis which has an adverse effect onmilk production, live weight gain & general well being. This is why good levels of DNDF are vital to maintainhealthy productive livestock.
DLF FIBER ENERGY VARIETIES INCLUDE:Nifty, Solomon, Romark, Diwan, Cancan, Cavendish, Twymax

DLF PLUSTM GRASSES
Huge Benefits From DLF PLUSTM Grass / Red clover mixtures
Plus™ Grasses are created by crossing Fescues with Ryegrasses, the objective being to create varieties with high forage quality combined with good persistence and stress tolerance. Anywhere between 10 - 50% additional forage yield is normally the result when varieties of DLF Plus™ Grasses are incorporated into a mixture.
Same attributes as Italian ryegrass with additional yield
Perseus and Perun are ideal for short term mixtures
Quick to recover after wet/drought conditions
Lofa has the same attributes of a hybrid ryegrass but
exhibits improved persistence and stress tolerance
Lofa is an ideal variety to include in a medium term
mixture
Suitable to go into all types of mixtures
Complements perennial & hybrid ryegrass
Increases the persistency of a mixture
Able to tolerate challenging & stressful conditions

CLOVER BLENDS
As an important element of certain grass mixtures, clover can be added to any of the TechniSward range of grass leys. This can either be done at the point of order or introduced to the ley at a later date after weed control has been successfully achieved. Modern overseeding methods are particularly effective at establishing clover at this time. All of our clover blends can be incorporated into the mixtures or purchased separately for overseeding at a later date.

"We were introduced to Technisward by our Agrovista agronomist, who recommended Super Cut for its high production qualities. Despite the long, cold spring the fi rst cut silage took place on schedule. We thought we would be a bit behind, but we picked up on May 23rd, the same as in 2017.
The newer Technisward leys came through especially well. The mix showed excellent recovery after cutting, but attention to detail is important, such as using fl otation tyres on silage trailers to minimise damage to the sward.
The fl exibility of the mixtures and the tailored approach offered by Agrovista is another bonus. We have been approached by a few other suppliers since starting with Technisward fi ve years ago, but it would be hard to better Technisward's proven production fi gures and the back-up we enjoy" John Mann
John Mann farms 280 hectares (692 acres) near Wigton, Cumbria, and raises 1,000-head of cattle, comprising 360 dairy cows plus followers and a 250-head bull beef herd. He also runs an anaerobic digester, the feedstocks are comprised of grass, crimped grain and slurry.

After cutting wait until aftermaths have fully recovered
After sowing keep stock on for 10 - 15 days then remove and allow sward to recover
For higher establishment rates with new seedlings, wait until at least 30 days before applying any nitrogen fertiliser
Timing is essential
For the best results, overseed immediately after the last cut or hard graze of the year
Ideally late summer or early autumn
Remove all surplus grass growth by cutting or hard grazing
Scarify the area in opposite directions using a wire tine grass scarifying harrow

OVERSEEDING ADVICE
For more information and advice on overseeding, please contact your local Agrovista Agronomist.
Direct drilling is a very quick and cost effective method of introducing productive grass and herbage species into an underperforming sward. For the best establishment results, it is important to maximise seed to soil contact. Modern day grassland direct drills enable growers to direct drill grassland with one pass of the machine.

For significantly stronger & faster establishment
High quality grass seed with nitrogen for fast effective establishment in a single seed coating.
ProNitro® fertiliser is coated directly onto the seeds, the germinating and developing seedling receives the full benefit of the additional nutrition, not the surrounding plants. The roots and shoots grow rapidly developing strong, vigorous plants. This is particularly important when overseeding into a competitive sward.
Sow from 10 - 15kg/acre (25 - 37kg/ha)
Feeds the seed and not the surrounding grass giving up to 34% more viable plants and upto 30% increase in root growth
Can increase forage yield and therefore benefit from more meat and milk production
Targeted nutrient application which can reduce losses to the environment by up to 50%

The mixture of palatable, proven varieties ideal for sowing after winter cereals. The mixture is suitable for post Christmas grazing as it exhibits very good winter hardiness, which is improved by the addition of the kale. Sow mid July - mid September
Grown as a main root crop which requires similar inputs and husbandry as sugar beet.
The roots are very palatable to stock and contain a very high energy content.
Can either be harvested by lifting the roots or livestock can graze in situ.
A high yielding crop of top quality fodder which can be fed as an supplement to grass silage
Two types of stubble turnip, a bulbing type and a non bulbing type
Can either be sown after fi rst cut silage for summer utilisation or after the cereal harvest for utilisation in the autumn
Generally produces higher fresh weight yields when compared to forage rape
Good for breaking in hill ground
