About Olivier NotzBorn in 1961 in Cameroon and growing up near the sea I had very young my first snorkeling experiences in the Gulf of Guinea. In 1974, I moved to Switzerland with my family where I am living since.Although feeling very comfortable in the water I took up scuba diving late and com-pleted my dive training in Switzerland between 1996 and 2001. Today I am a CMAS 4* certified diver with over 1000 dives. I dive mostly in Swiss lakes. Diving is for me a very good way to relax.As I am a passionate photographer it was only a matter of time to start underwater photography. I bought my first underwater camera housing in 2001. Since 2016 I am using a Canon EOS 5DS R in a UK-Germany-housing.The lakes in central Switzerland, where I live, offer the perfect opportunity to dive all year round. Further to this I usually spend two weeks diving in warmer climates every year. So far, I visited the Red Sea 15 times and the Maldives three times. Besides I did a few dives in the Atlantic Ocean, on the Californian coast and on the west coast of Mauritius. In May 2012 I dived in the Bali Sea for the first time. To me it was one of the best places I ever dived. Especially the Menjangan Island is absolutely marvelous and I went for a second time in 2014. In January 2015, I could dive at the Ningaloo Reef and at the Busselton Jetty in Western Australia, even though one of the most memorable experience was snorkeling with the playful sea lions at Jurien Bay. Although I have a clear preference for underwater landscapes, large fishes and marine mammals, still I also like macro photography.I work with InterApp AG since 1986, a producer and trading company for valves. To-day I am responsible for the InterApp group product management and the production of the Teflon® butterfly valve series in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. Über Olivier NotzIch wurde 1961 in Kamerun geboren und wuchs in der Nähe des Atlantiks auf. Bereits in jungen Jahren haben mich Schnorchel-Erlebnisse im Golf von Guinea begeistert. 1974 zog ich mit meiner Familie in die Schweiz, wo ich seither lebe.Obwohl ich mich im Wasser sehr wohl fühle, begann ich mit dem Tauchen relativ spät. Zwischen 1996 und 2001 absolvierte ich meine Tauchausbildung in der Schweiz. Heute bin ich CMAS 4*-Taucher mit etwas mehr als 1000 Tauchgängen, die meisten davon in Schweizer Seen. Tauchen hilft mir, mich zu entspannen.Als passionierter Fotograf war es für mich nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis ich auch mit der Unterwasser-Fotografie begann. 2001 kaufte ich mein erstes Unterwasser-Kameragehäuse. Seit 2016 verwende ich eine Canon EOS 5DS R in einem Gehäuse von UK-Germany.Ich tauche das ganze Jahr hindurch. Die Seen in der Zentralschweiz bieten die perfekte Gelegenheit dafür. Meist verbringe ich dazu noch 2 Wochen Tauchferien in wärmeren Gewässern. Die Tauchgründe im Roten Meer habe ich bisher 15-mal, die-jenigen der Malediven 3-mal besucht. Ausserdem absolvierte ich einige Tauchgänge im Atlantik, an der kalifornischen Küste und an der Westküste von Mauritius. 2012 tauchte ich zum ersten Mal auf Bali. Die Tauchplätze dort sind für mich die schönsten, welche ich bisher gesehen habe. Die Insel Menjangan hat es mir ganz besonders angetan, und so bereiste ich 2014 diese Gegend zum zweiten Mal. Im Januar 2015 hatte ich die Gelegenheit in Westaustralien am Ningaloo Reef und Busselton Jetty zu tauchen. Ein ganz besonders schönes Australienerlebnis war das Schnorcheln mit den verspielten Seelöwen in der Jurien Bay.Meine Lieblingsmotive unter Wasser sind Landschaften, grosse Fische und Meeres-säuger. Auch die Makrofotografie betreibe ich sehr gerne. Seit 1986 arbeite ich bei InterApp AG, einer Produktions- und Handelsgesellschaft für Regel- und Absperrventile. Heute bin ich für das Produkt Management der InterApp-Gruppe sowie für die Produktion der Teflon® ausgekleideten Absperrklappen in Rotkreuz verantwortlich.Seit 2006 produziere ich meinen eigenen Kalender UnderWaterWorld. Magnificent anemone – Heteractis magnifica – Red Sea, Aquarium, Egypt The magnificent anemones are found in the Indo-Pacific. They usually grow on ex-posed areas on large coral blocks. The anemones provide a habitat for various small fish. This coral block with beautiful anemones grows at a depth of 22 meters.Prachtanemone – Heteractis magnifica – Rotes Meer, Aquarium, ÄgyptenPrachtanemonen kommen im Indopazifik vor. Meist wachsen sie an exponierten Stellen auf grossen Korallenblöcken und bieten Lebensraum für unterschiedliche kleine Fische. Dieser Korallenblock mit schön belebten Anemonen wächst auf 22 Metern Tiefe.

Sea squirts – Ascidiacea – Menjangan Island, Bali Sea, IndonesiaSea squirts are found all over the world, usually in shallow water and are sessibleW animals: they remain firmly attached to substratum, such as rocks and shells. Sea squirts feed by taking in water through the oral siphon and filtering out the plankton from the water.Seescheiden – Ascidiacea – Menjangan Island, Bali See, IndonesienSeescheiden sind sesshafte Manteltiere, welche weltweit die Meere vom Schelf bis zur Tiefsee besiedeln. Seescheiden gelten als „Kläranlagen der Ozeane“, denn sie filtern Plankton aus dem Wasser und zerstückeln es in kleine Teile, die von Kleinstle-bewesen am Meeresgrund besser aufgenommen werden können.

Variegated lizardfish – Synodus variegatus – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThe variegated lizardfish lurking, often in pairs, on corals in lagoons and outdoor reefs. Comes from the Red Sea to Polynesia. Lizard fish feed on small fish such as reef perches, gobies, wrasses but also shrimp or squid. They can snap for prey to their own size.Riff-Eidechsenfisch – Synodus variegatus – Rotes Meer, El Quadim Bay Der Riff-Eidechsenfisch lauert, oft paarweise, auf Korallen in Lagunen und Aussenrif-fen. Er kommt vom Roten Meer bis nach Polynesien vor. Eidechsenfische ernähren sich von kleinen Fischen wie Riffbarschen, Grundeln, Lippfischen aber auch Garnelen oder Tintenfischen. Sie schnappen nach Beute bis zu ihrer eigenen Größe.

Spotted eagle ray – Aetobatus narinari – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThe spotted eagle ray occurs in all tropical and almost all subtropical seas and lives mainly in flat coastal waters such as bays and coral reefs, either near the water sur-face or near the ground. He feeds mainly on mussels but eats as well shrimps, crabs, cuttlefish and worms. Larger specimens eat mainly fish.Gefleckter Adlerrochen – Aetobatus narinari – Rotes Meer, El Quadim BayDer Gefleckte Adlerrochen kommt in allen tropischen und fast allen subtropischen Meeren vor und lebt vor allem in flachen Küstengewässern wie Buchten und Korallenriffen, entweder nah der Wasseroberfläche oder bodennah. Er ernährt sich vorwiegend von Muscheln. Außerdem werden Garnelen, Krebse, Tintenfische und Würmer gefressen. Größere Exemplare fressen vor allem Fische.

Purple-eyed Goby – Byaninops natans – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThis goby lives in shallow lagoons, hovering close to table or small corals to catch zooplankton in the current. It is found from the Red Sea to the Cook Islands.Violettaugen-Zwerggrundel – Byaninops natans – Rotes Meer, El Quadim B.Diese Zwerggrundel lebt in seichten Lagunen, dicht über Tisch- oder Zwergkorallen schwebend, um in der Strömung Zooplankton zu fangen. Sie ist vom Roten Meer bis zu den Cook Islands anzutreffen.

Spotted porcupinefish – Diodon hystrix – Cathedrale, Indian Ocean, MauritiusThe spotted porcupine fish occurs in both the Indo-Pacific and the tropical and subtro-pical Atlantic and the Mediterranean. He is solitary and nocturnal. During the day he hides in caves and crevices or in the open water high above the ground. It feeds on invertebrates such as snails, clams, sea urchins, crabs and hermit crabs.Gepunkteter Igelfisch – Diodon hystrix – Cathedrale, Indischer Ozean, MauritiusDer Gepunktete Igelfisch kommt circumtropisch, sowohl im Indopazifik als auch im tropischen und subtropischen Atlantik und im Mittelmeer vor. Er ist einzelgängerisch und nachtaktiv. Tagsüber hält er sich in Höhlen und Spalten versteckt oder im freien Wasser hoch über dem Bodengrund. Er ernährt sich von wirbellosen Tieren.

Ornate ghost pipefish – Solenostomus paradoxus – Red Sea, El Quadim BayThe ornate ghost pipefish lives in the Red Sea and the tropical Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa to south eastern Australia, New Caledonia, the Fiji Islands, Tonga and north to southern Japan. He lives on coastal reefs mostly between gorgonians, algae or close to hair stars, well camouflaged. He feeds on small crustaceans.Harlekin-Geisterpfeifenfisch – Solenostomus paradoxus – El Quadim BayDer Harlekin-Geisterpfeifenfisch lebt im Roten Meer und im tropischen Indopazifik von der Küste Ostafrikas bis zum südöstlichen Australien, Neukaledonien, den Fidschi-Inseln, Tonga und nördlich bis zum südlichen Japan. Er lebt an küstennahen Riffen, meist zwischen Gorgonien, Algen oder nah bei Haarsternen, wo er gut getarnt ist. Er ernährt sich von kleinen Krebstierchen.

Arabian angelfish – Pomacanthus maculosus – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThe Arabian or halfmoon angelfish lives around the Arabian Peninsula and in the north eastern Indian Ocean as far as East Africa. He lives mostly alone and prefers coral-rich regions. It feeds on sponges, sea squirts and moss animals.Arabischer Kaiserfisch – Pomacanthus maculosus – Rotes Meer, El Quadim Bay, ÄgyptenDer Arabische Kaiserfisch oder Sichel-Kaiserfisch lebt rund um die Arabische Halbin-sel und im nordöstlichen Indischen Ozean bis nach Ostafrika. Er lebt meist allein und bevorzugt korallenreiche Regionen. Er ernährt sich von Schwämmen, Seescheiden und Moostierchen.

Stella Maru Wreck – Indian Ocean, MauritiusThe Stella Maru, a 42m long ship wreck, is a Japanese trawler that was sunk in 1987 by the Mauritius Conservation society to create an artificial reef. It lies upright on a sand bottom, next to a rocky reef at an average depth of 23 meters.Stella Maru Wrack – Indischer Ozean, MauritiusDie Stella Maru, ein 42m langes Schiffswrack, ist ein japanischer Trawler, der 1987 von der Mauritius Conservation Society versenkt wurde, um ein künstliches Riff zu schaffen. Soft coral – Dendronephthya – Water Lily Wreck, Indian Ocean, Mauritius The soft corals are animal colonies that consist of many single polyps and occur in the Indo-Pacific and the Red Sea. Dendronephthya are usually stately yellow, orange or red coloured and feed only on phytoplankton.Bäumchen-Weichkoralle – Dendronephthya – Water Lily Wrack, Indischer Ozean, Mauritius Die Bäumchen-Weichkorallen sind Tierkolonien, die aus vielen Einzelpolypen beste-hen. Sie kommen im Indopazifik und im Roten Meer vor. Dendronephthya sind meist prächtig gelb, orange oder rot gefärbt und ernähren sich ausschließlich durch den Fang von Phytoplankton.

Female Australian sea lion – Neophoca cinerea – Ind. Ocean, Western AustraliaThey live in small colonies along the coasts of Western and South Australia. They are usually found on small uninhabited islands along the coast. The bulls are up to 2.5 meters long and weight 300 kg. Cows are with 1.8 m and 100 kg much smaller.Australische Seelöwin – Neophoca cinerea – Indischer Ozean, WestaustralienSie leben in kleinen Kolonien entlang der Küsten West- und Südaustraliens. Sie sind meist auf unbewohnten, der Küste vorgelagerten Inseln anzutreffen. Die Bullen werden bis zu 2,5 m lang und 300 kg schwer. Kühe sind mit 1,8 m und 100 kg sehr viel kleiner.
