TH ANNIVERSARY

Welcome… Thank you for choosing to spend your time attending the 25th gathering of the Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners at our annual fall conference. This year continues our tradition of superb lectures from physician and nurse practitioner colleagues willing to share their expertise.

We have wonderful providers across the state and we thank each and every one of you for what you do to help improve the health and wellness of

Oklahomans. Silver is the precious metal that represents the 25th anniversary. Silver dates back to 4000 B.C. and was

considered the most valuable metal in ancient Egypt. Silver is also the most reflective element, is nontoxic to humans and is germicidal. So, while we take time to ponder the changes we’ve experienced during our time as nurse practitioners let’s be like silver. In 2001, there were 1,066 advanced practice nurses in Oklahoma, 492 being NPs. In 2018,

that number blossomed to 4,034 advanced practice

nurses with 2,952 being NPs. Collectively our voice should

be echoing as we continue our efforts to update our nurse

practice act and remove restrictions to practice.

Unfortunately, there continues to be a division amongst ourselves that is muting our message. If we cannot show civility for one another and as a group stand firm with the same agenda, it is hard for others to perceive us with credibility.

…welcome message continued from previous page.

As we spend our time this week networking with one another and reuniting old friendships, let’s think about how each of us as an individual can make a positive impact not only for our profession but for our organization. First, let’s continue to shine as bright as silver and band together as we battle for removing barriers to access to care and restrictions to practice. Secondly, let’s continue to provide evidence of our value in the healthcare arena and how we can improve the health and wellness of Oklahomans.

~Tracy Langley, AONP 2019 Conference Chair
