Commandant Steve Schwartz Fall greetings to all of our fantastic Detachment Members, Associates and FMF Corpsmen. The seasons may change but our work continues. Our major endeavor will be our annual Toys for Tots campaign and here's hoping we can exceed last year’s number of toys for the children. Russ, will of course, keep us up to speed on our activities, collections etc. First up is the monthly WWII luncheon on October 8. Then there is the Homeless Stand Down on October 15 from 9 to 2. We always have several volunteers and I expect the same this year. Let's not forget about the weekly popcorn sales at the VA. If you can spare a few hours it is always appreciated. And then we also have our monthly meeting on October 19. That evening Paul Hinojosa, Russ Miller and I along with our wives will be attending a dinner with the Young Marines. Looking forward to that. Don't forget that the services for Iris will be held on Oct 25th at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on West Colorado Avenue. Finally, on the 26th, many of us will be attending the Department Staff Meeting in Greeley. If you're interested in going, please let me know. Remember that at our November meeting we will be nominating, voting on and installing the Detachment Officers for next year. If you are interested, now is the time to let others know that you would like to be nominated and serve. Please give this some consideration. That's it for now Marines. Be seeing you soon. Semper Fidelis, Steve Commandant

Pat Thompson has a carcinoma on her forehead. She says it is about the size of a half dollar and is rapidly growing. She will have a biopsy done on the carcinoma and lymph nodes tomorrow followed by surgery, time and place not scheduled at this time (most likely Memorial Main on Boulder). After surgery she will be in the ICU for a couple days and, then transferred to a hospital room for a few more days. When recovered from surgery she welcomes visitors. Pat Carty sends: Pat Thompson had a C Scan today (Oct 1st), results will be sent to her Doctor. Surgery not scheduled at this time and, a lymph node test is to be scheduled soon. Pat has a positive attitude, she is a tough Irish lady! Her daughter Maureen will be visiting with her in the next few days.

Luncheon for WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans

This event is intended for the veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. All red blooded Americans are welcome to show support for our countries senior warriors. A guest speaker is often present to inspire and inform. The patriotism is genuine, the company is friendly, and the food is great. The next luncheon is 8 Oct.

Senior Vice Commandant Terry Crum Greetings motivated Marines, dedicated FMF Corpsmen, and outstanding associate members. Thanks for your attendance at the September Detachment meeting. 42 people were in attendance and 21 ate the nutritious and delicious breakfast. A sincere thanks for making our guests feel welcome. We are not a group of random people at a Detachment meeting, we are family. A hearty welcome to our newest member Marine Dean Tollefson, look forward to seeing you at future MCL events. Please keep our sick and distressed in your thoughts and prayers. The issues confronting some of these members are widely known while other members tend to hold there struggles to themselves. Regardless we keep all our members in need on our prayer list. Names on my heart include Vince Espinoza, Brigid Rudolph, and Pat Thompson. Of course I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Iris Rudesill. We are very blessed to have had her in our Detachment for so many years and privileged to have gotten to see her one last time before she reported to her final duty station. Sadly the web site for ordering tickets to the 2019 Marine Corps Ball is not up and running yet. Hopefully it will be up and running shortly. I apologize for the slow start up of ticket sales. This is not how it is supposed to be done. I am not sure but I hope we can sell tickets at the October Detachment meeting for those without internet access. The ball this year will be at the Marriott hotel. Marine Dress blues, formal civilian attire is the uniform of the day. 244 years of the finest fighting force the world has ever seen. In closing I look forward to seeing many of you at the Toy Run next Sunday or at least at the Detachment monthly meeting on October 19th where every Detachment meeting is a family reunion and every meal is a feast. Semper Fidelis, Terry

Quartermaster Russ Miller

I want to thank everyone that made all of or many Cash Sales events such a success over this past few summer months. From Territory Days to the Salute to American Veterans, POW/MIA Rally in Cripple Creek, and the Cruise Above the Clouds and VA Clinic Car Shows. Thank you all. The prizes for traveling the farthest for an event of course go to Steve Peterson, who came up from Arizona to help at Territory Days, and Craig Reeling who helped us in Cripple Creek and Woodland Park.

Toys for Tots Coordinator Russ Miller

We have our warehouse all lined up and took possession of the keys. This Saturday 05 October at 0800 we will be unloading the semi and getting moved in for a great 2019 Toys for Tots Campaign. If you are available to come and help eat donuts, drink coffee, unload the semi, arrange pallets, eat more donuts and drink more coffee, and clean restrooms, we would love to see your bright smiling faces at 2833 E. Fountain Blvd. We are on the Southeast corner of S. Circle and E. Fountain Blvd., two doors to the right of Harbor Freight. In the old King Soopers location.

Sunday 06 Oct we are looking forward to beautiful weather for the High Country Toy Run. There is a slight

change to the operation this year. We will be meeting at the usual spot for Breakfast Sheldon’s Lunchette, 204 Mount View Lane #16, at 0700 for breakfast. But here’s the twist, the motorcycle run will be starting from Colorado Technical University, 4435 N. Chestnut St., this year. We will be setting up the cash sales tent at 0830, riders should begin arriving around 0900 and will depart for their police escorted tour of Colorado Springs at 1100. They will end up down at Cowboys Nite Club for chow and an auction to help raise money to buy more toys for Santa’s Workshop on Ft Carson and to benefit the children of the outlying smaller towns of El Paso and Teller Counties. We are grateful to the Biker’s Church for taking up the mantle of organizing this year’s Run. If you still look stellar in your Dress Blues, please come out to CTU to hand out ride pins to the Riders as they arrive and get staged. Young Marines will again be directing traffic at CTU and receiving all of the toys from the riders at Cowboys and giving out door prize tickets. Thank you again to all involved this and every year.

Marine “Bear” Barrera, (aka Coach Bear) is taking his team up to Greeley to play against Team Colorado in

the 4th Annual Toys for Tots Charity Football Game. The game will be held at District 6 Stadium at 1300 on Sunday 06 Oct., and the toys donated at the game will be distributed to less fortunate children in Greeley and Ft Collins areas. More info will be sent out via email from the detachment regarding an upcoming game here in Colorado Springs against a College team that will benefit the children of Pikes Peak Region. Bear has three games total this year scheduled and is looking to take this show on the road to Nebraska and other states next year. Thank you Team Bear for all you do for less fortunate children.
