SHEEP TO SHAWL/FLEECE TO SHAWLAn annual Pennsylvania Farm Show favorite since 1980. The educational event has stood the test of time because it is a demonstration which brings many people back to their roots as well as educates the younger attendees. They get to experience spinning and weaving of wool as it was done in America for many years.

ANTIQUE TRACTOR RESTORATIONThis is a competition event for FFA chapters within the state of Pennsylvania. Each participating chapter will restore one tractor manufactured in 1975 or earlier to compete. All chapters will complete a tri-fold board explaining the restoration and a 15 minute stage presentation about the restoration process.

DRAFT HORSE PULLING COMPETITIONPresenting the original agricultural “horse power,” the horses, exhibited in the pulling classes compete to pull the most amount of weight. These equines demonstrate the amount of strength necessary on the farm in order to complete heavy-duty jobs.

LEARNING STATIONSYouth visitors can “investigate” the show by becoming a Farm Show Detective. They can visit all the learning stations throughout the complex by following a map, taking the opportunity to investigate many features of agriculture like alpacas, apples, beef and veal, bees, the butter sculpture, dairy, dogs, edible nuts, family living center, farm equipment, farmland preservation, food safety, goats, horses, mushrooms, pigs, poultry, rabbits, sheep, vegetables, veterinary medicine and the wood mobile.PA EQUINE SHOWCASELearn about the variety of equine breeds and activities, including equestrian drill teams, trick riding classes, dressage and jumping, equine versatility and musical freestyle demonstrations and the cowboy mounted action shooting.

~ 2020 SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ~

Antique tractors will compete in a pulling contest as defined by the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association pulling standards.

CHILDREN’S PEDAL TRACTOR PULLBoys and girls weighing between 40 and 90 pounds can participate in a pedal pull contest in one of five weight classes. First and second place winners in each class will win prizes, and each participant will receive a coloring book. The event is managed by the Waterloo Boys 2 Cylinder Club of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

CUMBERLAND 4-H DRILL TEAMThese talented youth ride horseback to a choreographed music routine of intricate maneuvers and patterns. PA HIGH SCHOOL RODEOStudents in grades 8-12 participate in the same rodeo classes as the professionals on the same livestock. Seats fill early and this event is one of the most popular Farm Show events.

FAMILY LIVING DISPLAYS/STAGEExhibiting everything from homemaking traditions such as canning, quilting, sewing and baking to youth activities such as crafts, posters and photography, these displays are often works of art themselves and a main attraction to visitors.

HORSESHOE PITCHINGA long-standing Farm Show tradition, horseshoe pitching began in 1931, was eliminated in 1957, and reestablished in 2007. Considered one of the most prestigious tournaments in the National Horseshoe Association circuit, the competitors also do a hands-on demonstration for show visitors.

PLEASURE DRAFT HORSE SHOWThe show is designed to showcase the versatility of the draft horse. This crowd-pleasing show draws exhibitors from across the state for friendly competition thanks to increased premiums.

FFA MID-WINTER CONVENTIONNearly 5,000 Pennsylvania FFA members gather for their annual Mid-Winter Convention. Students receive Keystone Degrees, state stars and their famed blue corduroy jackets. The FFA provides its members with leadership development opportunities through classroom instruction, career development contests and real world agricultural career placement.

PA SPEEDHORSE ARENA EVENTThis event consists of fun competition in pole bending, chalk keyhole, flag racing and dual flag racing for all ages. The event has a dual purpose providing safe equine learning experience and teaching farm show attendees about the horse industry.

THE MIKE WAUGH CELEBRITY DRAFT HORSE FEED SCURRY COMPETITIONThrough a vision of the Farm Show Draft Horse exhibitors this event has become one of the largest fund raisers for the Friends of Farm Show Foundation. The fun filled activity is held in the Equine Arena Tuesday evening of Farm Show. Any individual or business entity may participate in the competition, the Foundation will accept the first 20 sponsors who are willing to donate $850 to sponsor a local celebrity such as state and local legislators, government employees, television/radio personalities or other celebrities that are well known in Pennsylvania. TRACTOR SQUARE DANCETractor square dancing will take place in the Large Arena. A Pennsylvania Square Dance Club will demonstrate how tractors of the past can actually promenade. Very entertaining demonstration.
