HelloParticipants!

TexasA&MUniversity–Commerce,hometoover3,000students,hasstoodproudly

since1889leavingitslegacyinTexasoverthepast100+years.Thisuniversityhashelped

some of the most influential minds reach their highest potential. From Government to

CEO’s,potential forharnessing thegreatnessof individualityhasbeen instilled inall the

actions this university takes year to year. We continue this tradition through the

celebrationofHomecoming,theculminationofthisuniversity’striumphs,graduations,and

expansion that has been achieved. Since the university’s inception, TAMUC has honored

Homecoming through the inclusion of the first football game of the semester, spirited

team/ organization competitions, our long-standing Hot Dog Spirit Rally, to the highly

anticipatedbonfire.Withthatsaid,weareexcitedthatyouareplanningonparticipatingin

thisyear’sHomecomingandhopethatyouhaveanenjoyableandspiritedexperience.

Overthepastfourmonths,myselfand11otherstudentleadersontheHomecoming

Crewhave beenworking around the clock, dedicating our time and energy to provide a

successful and enjoyable Homecoming experience for the entire university. We have all

beenworkingincrediblyhardthisyeartomakeoureventsasinclusiveaspossiblesothat

no student misses out on the opportunity to participate in one of the most anticipated

weeksoftheyear.OurgoalistomakesureyourHomecomingexperienceisonethatyou

willremember fora lifetimeandencouragesyoutoembodythespiritofTAMUCbeyond

yourcollegecareer.

This year’sHomecoming theme is “DeepDown in theHeart of Commerce,”which

waschosenbyourveryownTAMUCstudents.Peoplefromallwalksoflife,fromalumnito

ourcurrentfreshmanclass,haveaconnectionwithTexasorhaveTexanrootsthatevokea

senseoflove,joy,andinclusivity.Weareexcitedtoshowyouwhatwehaveinstoreforthis

year’sHomecoming!

AbouttheTeamCompetition

The Homecoming Team Competition includes a variety of activities and events

throughouttheweek.Competitionconsistsofsevenspiritevents.Teamsmaycompeteinas

manyorasfeweventsasdesired.Eacheventwillawardteamspointstowardstheoverall

spirit competition. The team with the most overall points from all events will win a

Marketingpackage fromthePrideShoptowardsaneventplannedduringthe2019-2020

school year by their student organization. Teams of individuals with the most overall

pointsfromalleventswillwinBlue&GoldPrizePacks!Teamsinterestedinparticipating

inanyoftheTeamCompetitioneventsmustcompletetheTeamCompetitionSign-UpForm

onManeSyncbySunday,October11,2019.

TeamCategories

There will be two categories for Team Competition events, and teams will only

competeagainstthegroupswithintheirowncategory.

Thecategoriesinclude:

• TAMUCrecognizedStudentOrganization

• Non-AffiliatedStudentTeam/FriendGroup

Friend Groups are made up of a minimum of three currently enrolled TAMUC

students and amaximumof ten currently enrolledTAMUC studentswhohave formed a

teamtoparticipateinTeamCompetitionevents.FriendGroupsallowstudentswhoarenot

involved in a registered student organization to participate in Homecoming Team

Competitionevents.AlthoughFriendGroupsarenotregisteredstudentorganizations, all

rules/regulationsanddeadlinesstillapply.

Both student organizations and Friend Groups may not contain less than three

members,andnomorethantenatanytime.Teammembersmaybeaddedtoarosterupuntil

thefirstdayoftheHomecomingSpiritWeek.

Evenifyourteamparticipatesinonly1ofthe7TeamCompetitionevents,allpoliciesapply.

Inthispacket,youwillfindinformationregardingHomecomingTeamCompetition

events; including forms, deadlines, rules, and the point system. Please read the

informationcarefully,assomedetailsaredifferentthaninpreviousyears.

ItisimpossibletopredictallsituationsthatmayoccurduringtheTeamCompetition

events. Therefore, in the absence of established rules orguidelines, decisionsof Student

Activities/HomecomingCrewwillbemade in the spiritof fairnessand schoolunity, and

when reasonable, consistency. As per “Revisions,” editsmade to this packet after initial

publicationwillbesenttotheTeamCaptainsandFriendGroupRepresentativesandplaced

online.

SportsmanshipandConduct

Derogatoryconductdirectedtowardsothers,orconductnotinthebestinterestof

building school spirit and unity, will not be tolerated. Foul language, gestures, or

destructionofanotherindividual’sorgroup’sproperty,aswellasviolationofanylaw(e.g.,

public intoxication), TAMUC policy, or Homecoming Rule can result in immediate

disqualificationfromalleventsfortheteam(s)inquestionandwillbereferredtotheDean

ofStudents.Alldecisionsaboutdisqualificationareat thediscretionofStudentActivities

andtheHomecomingCommittee.

AccommodationsandAccessibilityRequests

All students are invited to participate in Homecoming activities and Team

Competitionevents.Ifyouanticipateneedinganytypeofaccommodation(e.g.,ramptothe

stage at Yell Like Hell) or have questions about the access provided, please email

Alyssa.Lowe@tamuc.eduatleast72hourspriortotheeventinquestion.Wewillmakeall

reasonableattemptstoprovideanaccommodation.

TeamCaptainsandGreekChapterRepresentatives

Non-StudentOrganizationAffiliated/FriendGroupInformation

All Student Organization Teams and Friend Groups competing in any number of

Homecoming Team Competition events must select and list one (and only one) Team

CaptainontheTeamCompetitionSign-UpForm.Inanefforttodecreaseopportunitiesfor

miscommunication, theTeamCaptainwillbe theonly student from their teamwhomay

communicate(e.g.,askquestions,airconcerns)inanofficialcapacitywiththedesignated

Student Activities/Homecoming Representative. The Team Captain will also be the only

personontheteamwhoreceivescommunicationfromtheStudentActivities/Homecoming

Representative.

Only these representativesmaycommunicate (e.g., askquestions, air concerns) in

an official capacity with the designated Student Activities/Homecoming representative.

Representativeswillalsobetheonlypeopleontheteamwhoreceivecommunicationfrom

theStudentActivities/HomecomingRepresentative.WhenaChapterrepresentativeasksa

question or requests clarification, Student Activities/Homecoming willmake reasonable

efforts to email the response to all team representatives on the team. However, it is

ultimately that team representative’s responsibility to communicate the response to the

otherChapterRepresentativesontheteam.

AllStudentOrganizationTeamandFriendGroupscompetinginanyeventinthe

TeamCompetitionmustsubmitarosterviaManeSyncby5pmonFriday,October11th.

TherostershouldbedesignedinanExceldocumentwith3columns,asshowninthe

examplebelow.Pleasenotethatthe3rdcolumnshouldbethestudent’sStudentID

Number(9digits).Therostershouldbeinclusiveofallofthemembersofthestudent

organization,orfriendgroupwhowillbeparticipatinginanyTeamCompetitionevents

foryourteamthroughouttheweek.

EligibilitytoParticipate

Allmembersofateammustbecurrentlyregistered(Fall2019)withStudent

Activities at the time of entry and through Homecoming Week to participate in

Homecoming events. Multiple teams can combine to form one Homecoming team to

participateinTeamCompetitioneventsaslongasthemaximumamountofteammembers

doesnotexceedten. Ifyouchoosetocombineforanyoneevent,youmustalsocombine

withthesameteamforallothereventsinwhichyouparticipate.Whenmorethanoneteam

combines to form another team, all members within the team must be registered;

otherwise,theentireteamwillbeineligibletocompete.Ifunsureaboutyourregistration

HomecomingAwardsCeremony

TeamCompetitioneventwinnerswillbeannouncedattheBonfirebyaspecialguest

afterallthepointsarecalculatedandcloselyevaluated.Thewinnerwillhavetheoptionof

claimingtheirprizethereorgoingtotheStudentInvolvementSuitethefollowingMonday

before5:00PM.

QuestionsandConcerns

All questions regarding Homecoming activities and Team Competition events

FriendGrouprepresentative’sleomail.tamuc.eduemailaddress.AnyTAMUCstudentmay

submitacomplaintorconcern(includingareportofateam’spotentialruleviolation)from

their leomail.tamuc.edu email address within 24 hours of the completion of the

HomecomingAwardsCeremonyonOctober26th, andmaybeable to remainanonymous

upon request. When not possible, the Homecoming Advisor will notify the student and

allow them to decide if theywould like to retract the complaint. In some situations, the

Homecoming Advisor may require that the complaint be submitted through the Team

CaptainorFriendGroupRepresentative.

All teamswill receive points for events inwhich they participate. The first-place

teamwithineachcategorywillreceivethemaximumnumberofpoints,determinedbythe

point criteria described in each event. In each event day, there will be different

opportunitiesforeachteamtoreceiveextrapointstotheirtotaleventpointsforthegiven

AboutHomecomingKick-Off

The Homecoming Spirit Competition is an opportunity for your team to worktogethertocompeteinavarietyofchallenges.Activitiesrangeinstyleanddifficulty,butallwill require a sense of humor and willingness to have fun! The Homecoming SpiritCompetition will take place beginning at 6:00pm on Monday, October 21st, in the RSCConference Rooms, where participants and spectators are encouraged to come out andenjoy an evening of friendly competition. The Spirit Competition will conclude at thebonfireevent.Winnersofthecompetitionwillbeannouncedatthebonfire.

• OnthedayofYellLikeHell,teamsarerequiredtocheck-inpriortotheeventstart:

o TheTeamCaptainmustcheck-inat7:30pmwithaHomecomingCommitteerepresentative.Check-inwillbeatatableclosesttotheamphitheatersteps.

o Yourwholeteammustcheck-inatyourteam’sassignedseatingareaby

o Onceateamhasperformed,theywillreturntotheirassignedseatingareauntiltheawardceremonyattheendoftheevent

• Teamswillbecalledtothe“ondeck”sectionfromtheirassignedseatingareas;any

teamwhomissestheirondeckcallwillforfeittheirrighttoperformandbe

disqualified

• Thisisafamilyshow,sonovulgar,explicit,orsuggestive/inappropriatelanguage(spokenorinyourperformancemusic),gestures,oractionswillbetolerated

• Liftingisallowed;however,thereshallbenobaskettossesorthrowingintotheair,
