The Seminoles have been the ACC Champions in five of the last six seasons. The Noles also placed four student-athletes on the 11-member preseason All-ACC Team - Malia Berkely, Deyna Castellanos, Jaelin Howell and Yujie Zhao Castellanos, Berkely, Howell, Zhao are four of the 61 players on the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy. It is the 16th straight season that the Seminoles have had a student-athlete named to the preseason Watch List and FSU has had at least two players selected 12 times in the last 14 seasons. FSU VS. UCLAThe Noles and Bruins will face each other for the fourth time in the series on Thursday, with UCLA holding a 2-1-0 advantage. The last time the two teams met was a season ago in Tallahassee when FSU beat UCLA 4-1.

Four current Seminoles came away with either a goal or an assist in the game last season. Kirsten Pavlisko, Kristen McFarland and Yujie Zhao all scored goals. Zhao also recorded two assists while Malia Berkely recorded one.

In the teams’ first two meetings, UCLA defeated Florida State in the College Cup Semifinals in 2005 (4-0) and 2013 (1-0)

Florida State is a combined 20-8-3 all-timeagainst current Pac-12 teams, includingunbeaten records against Arizona (1-0), ArizonaState (2-0), Cal (3-0), Colorado (1-0), Oregon(2-0), Oregon State (3-0-1) and Washington State(2-0). The Noles have also played Stanford (2-3)and Utah (0-1).

FSU VS. USC The Seminoles and Trojans are playing in their eighth game all-time in series history and the second in Los Angeles. FSU holds a 3-2-2 record over USC. The two teams met twice last season resulting in a 0-0 tie in Tallahassee and a 1-1 tie in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Last season’s third-round match-up was a thriller that saw the Seminoles win 5-4 in penalty kicks. Caroline Jeffers denied USC’s fifth attempt and Yujie Zhao followed that up with a goal for Florida State, securing them a spot in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.

OPENING DAY UNDER KRIKORIANFlorida State improved to 19-5-1 all-time on opening day, including a mark of 13-1-1 when

opening the season at home. The Noles are 14-1-0 on opening day under head coach Mark Krikorian, including a mark of 9-0-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU has won 12 straight season openers, outscoring the opposition 29-3

NOLES AT THE WORLD CUPJunior Gabby Carle was on the Canadian National Team’s 2019 Women’s World Cup roster but did not record any minutes played.

Deyna Castellanos served as an announcer for Telemundo for the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome 8 newcomers to the squad in 2019, including 7 freshman and a sophomore transfer

NEWCOMERS GRABBING PLAYING TIMEFour Seminole newcomers have earned playing time early in the season, three of them earning at least one start in the first two games. Freshman Heather Payne has made an immediate impact in just two games played, recording one goal and one assist. She has also helped anchor the Seminole backline as they have not allowed a goal through two games. Payne’s goal against TCU made her the first FSU freshman to score a goal in her Seminole debut since Deyna Castellanos did in 2016. Sophomore Transfer Abbey Newton has earned starts in all of the first three games, while freshman Jenna Nighswonger earned starts against TCU and UCLA with her first career assist against UCLA

MAC HERMANN TROPHYFour Seminole student-athletes earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy. Senior Deyna Castellanos, redshirt junior Malia Berkely, sophomore Jaelin Howell and sophomore Yujie Zhao were among the 61 players recognized.

It marked the third year in a row Castellanos was named to the Watch List.

In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18).

TDS PRESEASON BEST XITopDrawerSoccer released its 2019 Preseason Best XI teams, and Florida State had a country high five members among the four different teams.

Sophomore Yujie Zhao received a spot on the Best XI First Team, while senior Deyna Castellanos and redshirt junior Malia Berkely received spots on the Best XI Second Team.

Sophomore Jaelin Howell earned herself a spot on the Best XI Third Team and while newcomer Jenna Nighswonger was named to the Best XI Freshman Team.

It is the third year in a row that Castellanos has been chosen to the preseason teams and

second straight year for Zhao.

FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles closed out the 2018 regular season with an all-time ACC record of 116-75-23.

Florida State is 95-29-17 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 57-9-6 against league opponents at home and 38-21-12 on the road.

FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 10 times (2005-10, 2012-15) over the last 13 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014).

AUGUST SUCCESSThe Seminoles look to continue their early season success with three games in the month of August. FSU owns an all-time record of 49-9-2 and has won 42 of its last 47 matches played during the month of August. The Noles are 40-4-1 in August under head coach Mark Krikorian and have outscored their opponents 140-43 all-time in August with 32 shutouts.

HOME SWEET HOMEFlorida State is 155-13-9 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

ACC PRESEASON POLLAfter earning ACC Championships in six of the last eight seasons, the Florida State soccer program is again expected to have a strong season in 2019 as the Seminoles were voted to finish second in the league but lead the league in first place votes.

FSU tallied 185 points and trailed only North Carolina who received 188 points and six first-place votes. However, the Noles topped all schools with eight first-place votes and were also one of two schools to place multiple members on the 2019 Preseason All-ACC Women’s Soccer Team – senior Deyna Castellanos, redshirt junior Malia Berkely, sophomore Jaelin Howell and sophomore Yujie Zhao

• Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian took over the Seminole women’s soccer program in 2005 and has turned FSU into a national title contender on an annual basis.• In his first 14 seasons in Tallahassee, Krikorian has led FSU to a 2014 and 2018 National Championshp, 10 Col-lege Cup appearances, including a recent string of four straight trips (2011-15), four appearances in the national championship game (2007, 2013 and 2014, 2018) and six ACC titles (2011, 2013-16, 2018).• Under Krikorian, FSU is the only school in the nation that has ranked in the top 10 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll 12 times in the last 14 seasons. • Krikorian recorded career college win No. 400 with a 2-0 win at Virginia Tech in 2017 becoming the 16th coach across all NCAA divisions, and eighth in Division I, to reach that milestone.
