Welcome

I am delighted to be able to welcome all students, coaches, parents and supporters to the 2019 Under 11 BSME Games here at the British International School Abu Dhabi.

BSME is a wonderful organisation which helps bring students and schools together to benefit all involved. Their ongoing efforts provide students with opportunities which they would not otherwise have and which single schools could not provide. Our sincere thanks to them for everything they do for schools in this region.

This week sees 460 competitors from 16 schools come together for 3 days of activities. Every one of the students will have trained hard and will be aiming to do their very best (and perhaps beat their very best) in the competitions to come. We wish them all success in this. Not everyone will win, but if we give our best, both as an individual or as a teammate, we know we could not have done any more.

Please also take the opportunities presented this week to also extend the hand of friendship to all. Sport is the focus that brings us all together, but let us also enjoy the company and camaraderie this brings. Let us depart at the end of the week with all of us having done our bit to make these Games as good as they can possibly be for everyone else too.

The British International School Abu Dhabi is very proud to host this year’s Games. For the next 3 days our home is your home and we are delighted to have you with us. Enjoy every moment and take away those precious memories that will stay with you forever.

Now...... Let The Games Begin!

Welcome all athletes, coaches and families to BIS Abu Dhabi. As a school community, we are very proud to be hosting The BSME games and are looking forward to celebrating your success over the three days of events. At BIS Abu Dhabi we are fortunate to have outstanding facilities that can accommodate the whole of the games on one site. Being able to hear and see goals being scored, personal best’s being achieved, and baskets being dunked in from around different parts of the school site will create a superb atmosphere.

During the three days of competition, athletes will face a variety of different challenges. Some will be physical, some will be psychological, some challenges will be larger than others, some will be individual, and some will challenge the whole squad. All will require resilience, determination and support from friends to overcome. This is what the BSME games offers; the opportunity to challenge and test yourself against others and against yourself, whilst having a good time doing it.

As a school community we will support and assist you in any way we can to make sure your BSME games experience is one you will remember for a long time.

The British School Muscat has expanded dramatically over the past few years and now has over 1200 pupils covering the ages of 3 up to 18. We have almost 50 nationalities represented within our school with the biggest percentage being British at around 40%. Every year the BSME Games is a tremendous event to be involved in and I sure that this year’s event will build on the successes of previous events and help to take the experience for the children to a even higher level. All our students have taken part in at least 2 BSME events prior to this one. Our goal is as much for the children to have an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives, meeting students from our schools and forming new friendships as it is to worry too much about the winning of the event - although that would be nice. Like all teams, our children have trained hard to ensure they can give their best at these games. Good Luck to all participating schools from the teachers and children at BSM.

In October 1990 the Modern English School Cairo opened its doors with only 28 students enrolled. The school began with the pioneering vision of a group of educators led by Mr. Nabeel Dajani and Mrs. Sawsan Dajani. Its reputation and standing in the community grew quickly and as the school population increased, improved facilities were built, culminating in a recent move to an impressive state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo.

We offer a well rounded program within the school, where students have the opportunity to learn a range of skills, improve their leadership and teamwork, providing them the basis for life long learning and participation in sport. The primary physical education department believes that competition should be encouraged among modesty and integrity, success should be championed and failure should be evaluated.

Our Mission is leadership through education: Caring, Challenging, Inspiring.

The establishment of Kuwait English School was, in 1978, the dream of the present School Chairman, Mr. Mohamed Jassim Al Saddah, at that time serving as Kuwait’s Ambassador to Spain and the current Founder/Director, Mrs. Rhoda Elizabeth Muhmood; both shared a passion for education, a modest villa in which to start the School (September 1979) was found until in 1984, with a population of some 1500 students of all ages, a purpose-built school was opened. Since that time there have been innumerable developments to ever improve the facilities and the quality of education.

The school currently provides education for approximately 2500 students from a myriad of cultural backgrounds. Sport and PE are a central part of everyday life with students having many opportunities to participate in both competitive and non-competitive events. Kuwait English School is a member of the Kuwait Foreign Schools Athletic Conference (KFSAC) for juniors and International Schools Athletic Conference in Kuwait (ISACK) for the seniors. The school enjoys great success in both domestic and international sports competitions.
