As the years go by, life’s challengesmultiply: a complex culture, health issues, financial questions,family struggles, a variety of heartbreak, and the uncharted territoryof aging. What can meet these daunting difficulties? The gifts ofGod. Join Rev. Michael Newman as he discusses some of God’sgifts that will help you get through what can be an uphill life.

Michael Newman has been a pastorsince 1987 and currently serves as thePresident of the Texas District of theLutheran Church-Missouri Synod.Before his current mission work, he

served congregations in Texas, Min-nesota, and the Chicago area. His latestbooks are: “Gospel DNA: Five Markersof a Flourishing Church,” and “HopeWhen Your Heart Breaks: NavigatingGrief and Loss.”In 1983 Pastor Newman received his

B.A. degree from Concordia University,Ann Arbor, Michigan, majoring in Philosophy and BiblicalLanguages. He received his Masters of Divinity degree fromConcordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri in 1987.He has been married to Cindy since 1983. They have been blessed

with two wonderful daughters and their families.In his spare time you might catch him hanging out with his family,

running a few miles on the Texas roads, or enjoying a good book.

� 1 . 1 0 Simple Things You Can Do To Help Protect the EarthChris Searles of Biointegrity, and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church’s “Caring for God’s Creation” Team

Do you think doing something about Climate Change is beyond your grasp? Not so. There are many simple things that you cando that will make an impact, individually and collectively on the health of our planet. Join Shepherd of the Hills LutheranChurch’s “Caring for God's Creation” team as we discuss the facts: how the lifestyle decisions we make every day really domatter on the global scale. Joining us will be Chris Searles, founder of BioIntegrity, a project to restore Earth’s most productivewild ecosystems, discussing Globally strategic environmentalism.

� 2. Discovering the Magic of Hand DrummingSherry Gingras, Owner of DRUMZ, certified Drum Facilitator

This fun workshop will give everyone an opportunity to learn a Traditional West African rhythm and song and experience thejoy of group music making! No previous experience is necessary. If you have a heartbeat, you HAVE rhythm!

� 3. End of Life Issues, from the perspective of a physician and a financial plannerStephen Benold, MD, CFP, member of First United Methodist Church, Georgetown

This workshop will cover the importance of powers of attorney and beneficiarydesignations, the pros and cons of revokable living trusts, Advance Directives you may want to consider, decisions regardinginstitutional care and polypharmacy.

� 4. Seniors in the Bible: Role Models for the Younger GenerationKen Hennings, President Emeritus, Texas District, LCMS, member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Austin (LCMS)

The Scriptures give us amazing people who are in many ways ageless. These people speak to every generation that has comeafter them with nuggets of timeless truths for living our lives today. These ageless people are examples of encouragement for theyoung people of our world. We can use their life to help us share our own faith with others.

� 5. The Smart Phone: Navigating Technology in a Post-Modern WorldJoel Timmons, member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Austin (ELCA)

The age of technology is an ever changing world at a faster rate than ever before and it’s easy to get in the technology that wascreated to make life easier. In this course we will go through the basics of smart phone navigation with both the iPhone andAndroid phones. The course is designed to build confidence and ease with the use ofmodern technology.

� 6. What is Mine to Do?Presenters from Texas Impact and Casa Marianella

How can we, as committed followers of Christ, best respond to the plight of desperate people who are seeking sanctuary in ourcountry? The issues are complex. The personal stories are heartbreaking. Come to this workshop to hear from a representative ofTexas Impact on the issues, from immigrants themselves being sheltered at Casa Marianella here in Austin, from fellowChristians who are actively working to ease the situation. Gather information on how YOU and your congregation might be ofhelp.
