Dunster by Candlelight was started in 1986, taking place every year on the first Friday and Saturday of December when this remarkably preserved medieval village turns its back on the present and lights its streets with lanterns and where possible candles in the houses. The Osborne Hotel in Ilfracombe is our base for the weekend, ideally situated to explore. The busy town centre is a short distance away

where you will find a busy farmers market and lots of independent high street retailers offering lots of variety.

NEW YEARMonday 30th December 2019 - Thursday 2nd January 2020 3 x Nights: Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at the White Swan Hotel, Alnwick. In the heart of the historic Market Town of Alnwick and only a stone’s throw away from Alnwick Castle and Gardens. The White Swan is a charming 300 year old coaching inn, with the restaurants décor being salvaged from the Titanic’s Sister Ship.

Included: Monday 30th December: Journey to York and The Railway Museum: Immerse yourselves in the home of iconic locomotives and unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance, or take the short walk in to York. If you don’t feel too energetic the Railway Museum has a land train that makes regular journeys in to York. Tea and Scones await us on arrival at the hotel.

With all these and many more famous Paris landmarks located along the banks of the river, this cruise offers a whole new perspective of the Capital.

Day 1: Board the coach and journey for the morning sailing from Dover to Calais. Board the MS Seine enjoy a “Titi Parisien” evening.

Day 2: This morning, join us for a panoramic guided tour of Paris by coach. You’ll discover the renowned sights and attractions of the magnificent city. This afternoon, you’ll be free to explore Paris on your own. Enjoy an evening of dancing. Depending on the water level of the river, we may also cruise to the business district of La Defense in the course of the evening. We’ll return to the previous quay in Paris.

Day 3: Join us for a guided tour of the old Montmartre. Located at the very heart of a

19th Century village, the Sacre-Couer Basilica hasremained one of the favourite models for all-

time painters, sculptors and poets alike. Enjoy free time in Paris this afternoon. Since we

are docked just a few minutes’ walk from the Eiffel Towers and the Trocadero gardens, and

ROME BY AIRWednesday 18th – Saturday 21st March 20203 x Nights: Bed and Breakfast staying at The Hotel Aberdeen, Rome.

Rome, the Eternal City, is within doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Attracting millions of visitors from around the world to admire the treasures and masterpieces of Roman art and architecture. With such a density of magnificent buildings, sculptures and artworks, in a small area, the best way to explore is on foot, but make sure there is still time to just relax and soak up the atmosphere.

The Hotel Aberdeen is the perfect base, visits to the Eternal City on foot or or public transport. Located in a classic noble Roman palace near the Quirinale in a quiet area of the historic centre and is near both the Termini train station and Trevi Fountain.

Wednesday 18th: Travel by coach from Highway Garage to Manchester Airport for our flight to Rome. On arrival in Rome, we are met by a local guide and transferred to our hotel, The Hotel Aberdeen, where we will be based for the next 3 nights. We have time to take in our surroundings before dinner in a local restaurant this evening.

Thursday 19th: After breakfast we will be met by a local guide for an orientation guide by coach. This tour will take in the main attractions, including: as the roman Forum and the forums of Caesar Augustus and Trajan; the Capitol; the Colosseum and Palatine Hill; the Vatican City and Saint Peters Basilica – all of which you have the remainder of the trip to enjoy at your leisure. After the tour we have the remainder of the day and evening for independent sightseeing and to enjoy the local cuisine Italy is so famous for.

Friday 20th: After breakfast at the hotel, we have the whole day to enjoy Rome at leisure. Why not wander through the galleries of the Vatican Museum, passing breath-taking Roman mosaics, sculptures and spectacular frescoed ceilings before viewing the masterpieces of Botticelli, Perugino, Signorelli, Pinturicchio and Michelangelo in the front Sistine Chapel. Visit Saint Peter’s Square and Bramante’s Vatican Basilica or Rome’s Jewish Quarter, dating back to 139 B.C. The ghetto is a lively part of the medieval city with narrow streets, Roman remains, ancient homes, aristocratic palaces and a beautiful synagogue and museum.

Saturday 21st: Flight time depending we will have some time for one last walk in the ancient city before transferring to the airport for our flight back to Manchester. On our return we will be met by the coach and transferred to Highway Garage.
