STUDENT CALENDAR
McMath Secondary School is distinguished for its strong, positive interpersonal relationships. These relationships, which are the foundation for learning and personal growth, exist in the school to enable and include all learners. At McMath we believe that students and staff shall demonstrate
ATTENDANCE
Absences We request that a parent/guardian phone the school’s Absentee Line (604-718-4004) if their son/daughter is going to be away ill, or will be late. Lates A student is late if he/she arrives to class after the bell has rung to commence a class. Students who are late are to report to the office to sign in and receive a late slip before being admitted to class. Please note that students who are late for periods 2 and 3 will be recorded as late by the classroom teacher -- the office will not provide late slips for these classes. Truancy Regular, consistent attendance is vitally important to success being achieved in school. The School Act of British Columbia states that parents and guardians are legally responsible for ensuring attendance of their school-age children. A student who does not attend class and does not have prior permission from their parents/guardians and/or the school is truant. The school will contact the parents or guardians of truant students. Students may lose the opportunity to continue to attend the school due to chronic truancy. Early Dismissal Students who wish for any reason to be dismissed before school ends must first present a note at the office (or have the parent/guardian phone to confirm), and then sign out at the office. If a student becomes ill or is injured at school, parent/guardian contact must be made before the office staff approves early dismissal. Under no circumstances is a student to leave the school before the regular dismissal time without first reporting to the office. If the student goes home for lunch and cannot return to school, the office must be informed that afternoon by telephone call from a parent or guardian.
