Dear Families, A big thank you to all of the 8th grade families who attended Mass this weekend and volunteered for our first ever school hosted Coffee and Donuts! It was a great success! A special thank you to the Bale, Mansanarez, Halili, and Le families! Our next Coffee and Donuts will be hosted by the 7th grade following the November 3rd, 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM Sunday Masses. We look forward to seeing all of the 7th grade families there! Breakfast with Books will resume tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM in the Library with breakfast provided by Mrs. Flohr! All 6th, 7th and 8th graders are welcome to bring a book to talk about and enjoy the company of other student readers! Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) testing is now complete! MAP Reports will be presented at fall conferences, November 25 th -26 th . Fountas and Pinnell reading level testing to support Guided Reading in the classroom will also take place by the end of the month for students in 1st through 5th grade. Guided Reading Levels (GRL) will be shared at fall conferences. Your students will likely be aware of their reading levels, however, if you wish to confirm or have any questions please contact your student’s teacher. Dear Families,

A big thank you to all of the 8th grade families who attended Mass this weekend and volunteered for our first

ever school hosted Coffee and Donuts! It was a great success! A special thank you to the Bale, Mansanarez,

Halili, and Le families! Our next Coffee and Donuts will be hosted by the 7th grade following the

November 3rd, 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM Sunday Masses. We look forward to seeing all of the 7th grade families there!

Breakfast with Books will resume tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM in the Library with breakfast provided by

Mrs. Flohr! All 6th, 7th and 8th graders are welcome to bring a book to talk about and enjoy the company of other student readers!

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) testing is now complete! MAP Reports will be presented at fall

conferences, November 25th-26th. Fountas and Pinnell reading level testing to support Guided Reading

in the classroom will also take place by the end of the month for students in 1st through 5th grade. Guided

Reading Levels (GRL) will be shared at fall conferences. Your students will likely be aware of their reading levels, however, if you wish to confirm or have any questions please contact your student’s teacher. For more

SCRIP volunteer needed! We currently have one open position for a seller every Friday from 7:50-8:30 AM

starting next Friday, October 18th. This is a dual control position meaning you will always have another

trained seller with you. Volunteering as a SCRIP seller satisfies all Parents’ Club volunteer hours, including

the new fundraising hour requirement for returning families! Please email Teresa Mansanarez, [email protected], if you are interested.

Finally, please find enclosed in this week’s Wednesday Envelope both a SCRIP statement along with a yellow

Family Handbook Signature page. The newly revised Family Handbook can be found under the “For

GREAT CONVERSATIONS STRENGTHEN FAMILIES

Join us on October 27th

for the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Bernadette Parish! After Mass, join

Deacon Eric, Director of the Archdiocese of Seattle’s Office of Marriage, Family Life and

Formation, for a presentation about what you can do to address these questions and more. In

his “Great Conversations” interactive session, you will learn how to have meaningful conversations that strengthen your family. Specifically, you will get tangible tips to:

Talk to your children about God’s plan for them. Deal with the challenges presented by technology today.

Grow together as faith filled family.

SCRIP NEWS

Scrip is a mandatory fundraiser for each school family through the Parents’ Club. Returning families are required to generate at least $150 in profit, and new families

are required to generate at least $40 in profit. The Parents’ Club year runs from

February 1, 2019 – January 31, 2020. Included in your Wednesday envelope this

week is a profit statement as of September 25, 2019. This is not a bill. This statement allows you to see the profit amount that you have generated thus far. As a reminder, you have until January 31

st to make Scrip purchases that will count towards your Scrip profit.

● KING COUNTY GREEN TEAM – The St. Bernadette Green Team lead by Ms. Bazinet

has begun. The Green Team is open to students in Kindergarten through 8th and will meet

in the Spanish classroom one Wednesday per month from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. Remaining

Green Team meeting dates are: October 23, November 20, December 18, January 22, February 19, March 25, April 29, May 20 and June 3. To sign your student up for

Green Team, please email Ms. Bazinet at [email protected].

● MATH CLUB – NOW OPEN TO 6TH GRADE STUDENTS – There is no Math Club

this week, as there will be no school this Friday. The St. Bernadette Math Club is open for

students in Grades 6th – 8th and will meet on Fridays in the 6th Grade Classroom. The Math

Club is limited to 15 students in grades 6th, 7th & 8th. If you would like your child to

LITTLE LANCERS TRICK OR TREATING

Kennedy Catholic invites you to join their annual Trick or Treating for littlest Lancers! Children/grandchildren/neighbors and friends – all are welcome.

Costumes encouraged! Friday, October 25, 2019, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Kennedy Catholic High School, 140 South 140th, Burien. Join them for a spooky, fun-filled event! Little Lancers can wander the halls and trick-or-treat with some of our wonderful teachers. Then, make sure to stop in the Dillman Center to try out the Halloween themed activity stations put together by our Science Club. Alumni, parents, and members of the community are all welcome!

2020-2021 FULCRUM FOUNDATION TUITION ASSISTANCE

THROUGH FACTS

The Archdiocese of Seattle, through the Fulcrum Foundation, offers tuition grants to qualifying

families at participating Catholic Schools. To obtain a grant, the family must complete a

confidential Grant & Aid Application through FACTS. FACTS Grant & Aid Applications

must be completed online. Please note that families requesting financial assistance from

St. Bernadette Parish School must also have this application on file to be eligible for aid in the

2020-2021 school year.

If you wish to submit a FACTS Grant & Aid Application, please click here and follow the

directions to start an application.

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline to submit your 2020-2021 Fulcrum Foundation Tuition

Assistance Application is Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

CHANGE TO NOTE: FACTS announced that they will no longer accept faxed or hard

copy mailed documentation, like tax forms and W-2. All documentation will need to be

uploaded.

ATTENTION PRESCHOOL, PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN PARENTS

Our annual St. Bernadette Parish School Halloween Parade is at 9:00 a.m.,

October 31, 2019. Students in Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten ONLY will be allowed to wear their Halloween costumes and parade through ALL of the classrooms! Be sure to have your child wear comfortable shoes, as well as free dress clothes under their costume! (If needed, you may send free dress clothes with them to school to change into later in the day). Please check with your child’s teacher regarding Halloween parties, volunteering and any other questions you may have.

Please note…no light sabers, lasers swords or “weapons” of any kind will be allowed.

St. Bernadette School Fundraiser Vietnamese Dinner

Saturday, November 9th, 2019

St. Bernadette Vietnamese Community is hosting the Sixth Annual Vietnamese

Dinner on Saturday, November 9th in the Parish Hall. Tickets will be sold after all

Masses on Saturdays and Sundays and will also be available at the school and parish offices. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. To volunteer, please click here.

If wish to be involved in the Kitchen Crew, there will be a “kitchen specific”

meeting in the Parish Hall on October 9th

at 6:30 p.m. There will be a general

meeting on October 17th

in the parish hall.

ST. BERNADETTE AFTER SCHOOL ART SESSIONS FALL 2019 DRAWING, PAINTING & PRINTING/STAMPING

After school Art Class will be offered for students in Kindergarten – 2nd Grade on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the Spanish Room for a fee of $50. Monday classes will be held on November 4th, 18th, December 2nd, 9th & 16th. Art Class for students in grades 3rd – 8th will be held on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the Spanish Room for a fee of $60.
