Welcome from Division Director 2019/2020Dear Club Officers,

Welcome to the Central Division team. Congratulations and thank you for being willing

to serve as a Club Officer and/or an Area Director.

As you serve in your teams, you may develop leadership skills and experience personal

growth. I expect you will face obstacles over the year, however be assured that you are

surrounded by experienced Toastmasters who have served before you and have

overcome similar challenges. Regular training events and plenty of online resources will

help you and your members be equipped with the tools you need to succeed.

Collaborate with your teams, serve your clubs, deal with each other kindly and be an

inspiration to the current and future leaders of Central Division.

This quick reference guide contains key dates, contact details and online links as well

as vital information to help you understand various aspects of Toastmasters and to plan

your club goals for the year ahead.

Click on your club name to make changes, submit awards and process member renewals.

All educational achievements under Pathways need to be entered by the Base Camp Manager

(President, Secretary or VPE) as well as through Club Central for Distinguished Club Program

points. If both updates are not made, the member will not be able to access to the next level,

and the club will not be recognised for the achievement.

Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goalsQualifying RequirementTo be considered for recognition, your club must either have 20 members or a net growth of at least fivenew members as of June 30. Transfer members do not count toward this total until their membership hasbeen paid and is current in their new club.

Goals To AchieveFollowing are the goals your club should strive to achieve during the year:

Education (VPE/Base Camp Managers: President, VPE and Secretary)Traditional Program (VPE)1. Two Competent Communicator (CC) awards2. Two more CC awards3. One Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB), Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) or Advanced

Contest timetable 2019/2020Contests should consist of the following:

Humorous

Evaluation

International

Table Topics®

In Areas with up to 4 clubs, 1st and 2nd place progress to the Area Contest.

In Areas with 5 or more clubs, only the 1st place winner progresses to the Area Contest.

The 1st place winner at each Area Contest progresses to the Division final.

Each Division contest will have 8 Area contestants.

Only the winner of each contest progresses to the District Contests in May 2019.

Club contests need to be completed before the Area contest, ideally by end of September

2019.

Area contests need to be completed before the Division contest on the 21st March 2020,

ideally by end of November 2019.

Central Division contests to be held on Saturday the 21st March 2020.

District 73 contests to be held over the weekend of the 15th to 17th May 2020 location TBA

will be held in one of the States in District 73, Victoria, South Australia or Tasmania.

Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) and Club Officer training (COT) sessions are providedat no cost. Bookings are essential for catering and room booking purposes. Thesupplementary session of TLI is usually held on a Friday evening following the main session.

Central Division workshops are offered free of charge to Toastmasters members and are notopen to members of the public.

Other workshops or unique events may be on offer for Division members as opportunityarises. Costs could range from $10 - $25 depending on the presenter and workshop.Registrations for all events can be made at: http://www.toastmastersa.org/events.html

Central Division Education & Training sessions may be available via Zoom (live videostreaming) but will not be recorded. TLI and COT will only be recognised by Zoom forLimestone Coast participants.

Central Division is proud of the education program offered to members. Regular workshops are run bymembers for members. These workshops provide opportunities to learn new skills. Whether you are anexperienced Toastmaster or new to the organisation, the workshop program has something for you.Be a presenter or be a participant.

Central Division workshop schedule is the ideal place to advance your workshop and presentation skills.Each of the workshops available has a coordinators guide with the basic structure. You are responsiblefor researching your content and delivering. The journey to achieving Distinguished Toastmaster requirespresenting workshops that may not fit in your club meeting format.

Pathways informationThe exciting education program has been released and has been embraced by many. New technology isopening business and personal opportunities to Toastmasters’ members.

Here are some ways to increase your skills and knowledge about the new Pathways education program.

The traditional learning program will continue to be available until 30 June 2020 to members whocommenced prior to December 2017

The Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) awardThe Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award represents the highest level of educational achievement inToastmasters. The requirements to achieve the DTM changes slightly with Pathways.

Traditional education programTo earn the DTM designation in the traditional education program, you are required to:1. Earn the Competent Communicator (CC) award.2. Earn the Competent Leader (CL) award3. Serve at least six months as a club officer4. Serve a complete one-year term as a district officer.5. Serve as a club sponsor, mentor or coach.6. Participate in the preparation of a Club Success Plan.7. Earn your Advanced Communicator Gold or Advanced Toastmaster Gold award.8. Pathways learning experienceTo earn the DTM in Pathways, you are required to:1. Complete two learning paths.2. Serve as a club officer for 12 months and participate in a district-sponsored club officer

training program. (If your club has six-month terms for officers, you can fulfill this requirementby serving as a club officer twice, but you don’t have to do it in consecutive terms.)

3. Serve a complete one-year term as a district officer.4. Serve successfully as a club mentor or coach.5. Serve successfully as a club sponsor or conduct a Speechcraft or Youth Leadership program.6. Complete the DTM project. (Members are required to create and implement a project of their

SpeechcraftAnother opportunity to complete your Advanced Speeches is presenting at a Speechcraft course.Speechcraft is a great way of advancing your presentation skills, gaining awards and growing yourclub’s membership.

Central Division will call for expressions of interest for clubs to host public Speechcraft courses in2019/2020. Apart from developing your club members’ skills, an additional benefit to hosting aSpeechcraft course is the revenue gained that can be used for purchasing educational equipment forthe club.

Suggested induction ceremonyThe initial events experienced by new members play a significant role in the development of their long-term impressions about your club and the organisation. The induction ceremony is the first andpossibly the most important event a new member will experience.

If you are conducting the induction ceremony, it is your responsibility to speak with the new member/sprior to the evening to ensure that they are aware of the induction and the roles of the mentor/s. It isalso a good idea to speak with some of your fellow experienced members on the important role ofbeing a mentor. The following is a very formal induction and strictly a guide only; it may be changed tosuit your club’s ethos.

Mr / Madam Toastmaster, Fellow Toastmasters and Guests,

It is now my honour and privilege to induct a new member into the (name of club). This is a veryimportant occasion not only for our new member but also for our Club.

(Invite newest member/s to front of meeting room)

(Name of member) being a member of Toastmasters means you’ve joined an organisation that’shelped thousands of people worldwide.

Membership in Toastmasters International is a privilege that carries with it many rewards. When youjoin Toastmasters you will find that a group of people who are dedicated to helping each other growand improve their speaking and presentation skills in a spirit of fun, friendship and sharing.

To help you on your path of Toastmasters, you will have a mentor to guide you.

You can now choose to ask the mentor to stand and ask the following question:

(Mentor) do you accept the responsibility of a Mentor and do you promise to share your knowledgeand experience with (new Member)?

The Mentor (or another member) may now speak in support of the new member.

(Name of new member) do you promise to abide by the rules and regulations of ToastmastersInternational and the Bylaws of (name of club)

In the more formal ceremony you would now to ask the Member to recite the following, however this isnot compulsory.

I (Name of member), in the presence of my fellow members of the (name of club) Toastmasters club,make this firm obligation:

(Chairman then calls for a seconder and all those in favour, etc.)

This is where you can hand over to the member all relevant material, such as CC and CL manuals.Club guides, badges & certificates should also be presented at this time to officially acknowledge thenew member.
