CHARLIEIN CLASS SPOKEN ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

(6-5) Consistently

Uses spoken English at every possible opportunity and actively encourages fellow students to do so. Uses L1 only when it doesnot detract from completion of the task in hand or distract other students. Initiates, responds and develops the interaction and reacts positively to any very occasional prompting to use spoken English.

(4-3) Usually

Uses spoken English whenever directed to do so by the teacher or by the task in hand and is willing to interact with fellow students in pair and group work, initiating and responding. May use L1 when searching for words or seeking clarification of instructions and explanations but this does not interfere with the learning of others.

(2-1) Sometimes

Uses spoken English to a limited extent when directed by the teacher but seldom initiates and produces only very limited responses. Excessive use of L1 impedes the learning of others.

0

Contributes too little Spoken English for valid assessment. Uses L1 to such an extent that this seriously impedes the learning of others. Even when prompted, does not use spoken English to interact with fellow students.

WHAT ARE THE CLASSROOM RULES?• Be in class on time and turn up before class time during the breaks. The

timetable for each lesson is as follows:

• Turn off electronic devices; cells, ipads & personal computers…etc. unless they are used for educational purposes.

• Be prepared with all course materials; books, notebooks, homework…etc. Failing to do

so may result in not being accepted to class. In particular, if you forget to bring your

materials to class, be sure to either get them photocopied or lend one from a peer in

another class.

• Return completed homework assignments on time. Your assignments are evaluated

both quantitatively and qualitatively. If your instructor notices you have copied the

assignment in one way or another from a peer or internet, s/he has the discretion not

to grade your assignment or performance.

• Look after the digital devices in your classroom; sound system, projector, remote

controls…etc.

• If you have any questions or queries about your grades & absenteeism please

consult your teachers.

• It is a must to attend 90% of all the classes. For the fall period the absenteeism

limit is 48 hours.

WHAT ARE THE CLASSROOM RULES?

• Students have to get at least 65 out of 100 on average to take the proficiency

exam at the end of the academic year.

• Students who take 75 or more out of 100 will get 2 extra points to be added in

the prof.

• Students who do not get a health report during the whole academic year and do

not exceed the absenteeism limit will get 2 extra points to be added in their total

average score at the end of the year.

• For the ones who will get a health report: ONLY health reports taken from university and state hospitals will be accepted.

• If students fail and repeat the prep class next year, they have to pay the total fee of the repeated year.
