10 2018Year in REVIEW A BARBERTON HERALD PUBLICATION Michelle DeShon Herald Staff Writer Barberton High School students took the stage for a humorous rendition of “The Addams Family.” The musical comedy starred junior Jacob Gruber as Gomez, senior Payton Hoffman as Morticia, sophomore Haley Swaino as Wednesday, junior Chase Owen as Fester, junior Jaycee Lappin as Pugsley, senior Dustin Lemmon as Lucas, junior Jason Nevel as Mal, junior Taylor Mlady as Alice, sophomore Amelia Sebe as Grandma and junior Logan Miller as Lurch. Addams family ancestors were played by Wesley Cunningham, Alexandra Yankovich, Cheyenne Konkel, Taylor Asbury, Nick Vierheller, Aalyiah Harvey, Melissa Francis, Ariyan Gibson, Kylie Morgan, Makenzie Damsa, Sara Sines, Rodney Stover, Hope Fetherston, Katie Gable, Brookelynn Rose Roush, Benjamin Maldonado, Joseph Berlin, Eli Dobben and Hanna Bain. The plot revolved around the relationship between char- acters Lucas and Wednesday and their polar opposite families, the unexplainably odd Addams and Lucas’ family of ordinary Ohioans, meeting for the first time. The show was directed, produced and choreographed by BHS vocal music teacher Nicole Petrarca and 2013 BHS graduate Tyler Jensen. They have co-directed three plays together. The junior has performed in four or five plays at BHS. Chase (Fester) is not new to the stage, having performed at the Akron Civic Theatre with the All-city Musical in “Shrek,” “Mary Poppins” and “Beauty and the Beast.” He said he is a shy person and has a stutter so playing someone opposite of that is fun and exciting. Jensen said as the cast mingled with the audience in the cafeteria, “We’re really proud of everything that they’ve put forth.” Excited children dash after eggs in Columbia Woods Park. Barberton High School students took the stage for a humorous rendition of “The Addams Family.”
