REPORT SUMMARY

The 2016 Undergraduate Student Survey (USS) was administered to sophomores and juniors in April 2018.

The USS is a complementary survey to the Graduating Student Survey (GSS) and was first administered in

2015. This survey report includes the questions’ ratings from last year.

Two questions on this survey also appear on the GSS. They are:

1. If you were to start all over again, would you attend TAMU-CC?

2. Would you recommend TAMU-CC to a prospective student?

Demographics

A total of 4,001 students were invited to take the survey. A total of 697 students opened the survey, but only

672 students answered at least one question and are considered respondents, for a response rate of 16%

compared to 14% last year. Male students are underrepresented in the respondent population. While males

are 41% of the population, only 27% responded to the survey.

KEY FINDINGS

General Campus Experiences

The items receiving the highest ratings of combined satisfaction (Very Satisfied responses added with the

Satisfied responses), above 95%, in campus experiences are as follows:

• The fairness of ACADEMIC misconduct disciplinary process (95%)

• The fairness of student disciplinary procedures (under Code of Conduct) (95%)

• The quality of equipment in computer labs (95%)

• The accessibility of computer labs (96%)

• The helpfulness of the staff at the mail center (96%)

• The cleanliness of recreational sports facilities and equipment (97%)

• The overall condition of University grounds and landscaping (97%)

• The adequacy of sidewalks on campus (97%)

• The safety of recreational sports facilities (98%)

• The cleanliness of campus facilities (98%)

The items receiving the lowest ratings of satisfaction in general experiences, under the recommended 75%,

are as follows:

• The quality of the food in the Dining Hall (73%)

• The price of printing/copying on campus (72%)

• Nearly 40% of the students who live on campus are dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the quality of

food in the Dining Hall.

Campus Offices

Generally, 90% of students are satisfied with campus offices. All campus offices listed below received a

combined satisfaction score over 90% for Courtesy and 89% or higher for Helpfulness.

The Campus Copies score recovered 17% from last year’s dive. Apparently, the students got used to no free

printing.

Campus Events

The combined satisfaction scores for campus services:

Student Activities and Events (93%)

Islander Athletic Events (everyone) (92%)

Islander Athletic Events (attendees) (92%)

Strangely, 221 people who said they never attended Islander Athletic Events rated their satisfaction with it.

Those people were removed for the attendee calculation.

Noteworthy items

• Many students noted that classes in their major were closed when they went to register (89 marked

“always” and 136 marked “often”, a total of 40%). Another 222 students (38%) said classes were

closed “about half the time” or “sometimes”.

• 16% of the respondents indicated that they would probably or definitely not attend TAMU-CC if they

had it to choose again.

• The satisfaction with the web registration process (77%) remained near the low level it reached last

year (76%). It was 84% in 2016 and 90% in 2015.

• Over 90% of students are satisfied with the bus service to campus: Route 5 (94%), Momentum shuttle

(92%), Route 37 (94%), and the Wave #63 (94%).

• Over 62% of the respondents were at the junior level; therefore, they have had three years of campus

experience on which to base their opinions.

Respondents did not necessarily answer all questions on the survey. Therefore, the total number of responses

for a question will not necessarily match other questions.

About percentages:

Valid percent means the percentage based on the number of people who answered the question, not the

percentage of all the people who answered any question. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole

number, except when less than 1% in which case the exact percentage is reported.

The following questions were open for response to all students. The questions were constructed to ascertain

satisfaction with general experiences on the TAMU-CC campus. The Very Satisfied responses have been added

with the Satisfied responses to give the Combined Satisfaction score.

Usage items aim to provide some general insight on how often the services are used. The question reads:

Please explain why you were dissatisfied with the fairness of the disciplinary procedures.

Very long process. Been in the dark all semester because it's taking so long to hear back

I know full ride athletes that had been accused and questioned of plagiarism multiple times but nothing was

done.

I had an incident that ruined a lot of things for me even though this incident was out of my control.

Just an incident where minority groups were singled out and the campus decided to make the issue about

whether people were following rules. Guess the sentiment held by white supremacists doesn’t seem important to

the university.

Teachers and organizations (momentum) are able to falsify reports of student conduct as a threat any time a

student displeases them. I've been threatened with this action twice in this semester alone due to refusing to let

my civil rights be compromised. One followed through, providing no evidence, sending me into a spiral of anxiety

and forcing me to defend myself. I was cleared of all charges, but this process should not be used as a threat to

force students to submit without question.

I think the procedures would be good if professors actually followed through on them and not let students get

away with things like cheating with just a little slap on the wrist and not even effecting their grades.

I had an incident last semester in the First Year program and I did ALL of the work in a group project. I understand

that not everything is going to be fair in life but I was under the impression that things would be handled. I

brought it up multiple times with my professor and he simply told me that "it would be reflected" in their final

grades. I didn't want the other girls to fail but they did not deserve an A in the course. I'm not entirely sure what

ended up happening with them but I remember hating my second semester because I felt things were unfair.

I have reported students in my classes before for cheating, even coming to multiple different professors with

proof of the person cheating and no actions were taken to discipline the student. This student cheats in the

Students were offered the opportunity to leave comments. Certain things came up repeatedly, most notably

parking, dining, advising, as well as facilities and CASA. A summary of the comments in these areas is below. All

student comments begin at the bottom of page 27.

Parking - 14 comments along the lines of these…

• Parking is WAY over priced and the parking lots are extremely past due for being fixed. Pot holes everywhere but I’m

still expected to pay $80 for a parking pass?!? Ridiculous

• The only thing that needs help is the parking lots, they are way too expensive and are crumbling. It is easy to slip while

unloading my car.

• Parking - Please build another garage or parking area. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to park on campus.

• The parking lots suck. The road quality and the amount of parking close to the buildings.

• Also, there just isn't enough parking. I've already expressed this in other surveys. At best, it's frustrating. At worst, it's

angering when I arrive on campus 30 minutes before a class starts and can't even make it there on time because of the

lack of parking spots.

• need more parking. I waste time walking to class because its so far away

Dining - 9 comments along the lines of these…

• The dining hall needs to be open later for kids like Theatre majors who aren't free until late at night. Most

students are up late anyways and the food truck doesn't have very healthy options. Also, I have gotten rotten fruit

and undercooked chicken more than once from the dining hall.

• The hours of food operations and food options other than Dining Hall could be extended. Furthermore, the prices

could be reduced. A bagel with spread at Einstein Bagels is $3.00+, which is expensive for a student and in

general.

• I hope that somebody will actually read this in hopes that it will help improve the dining hall on campus. The

Islander dining hall has the most unhealthy food on campus, hands down. I'm vegan so there's nothing for me to

ever eat and the vegetables at the dining hall are drenched in oil and butter. I eat a sandwich almost every single

day because the rest of the food is so unhealthy and rarely ever do they have any real options for me. The food is

also incorrectly labeled such as brussel sprouts will say that they are vegan and then I go to eat them and they

have bacon in them. This is something that has really affected my life because I would have stayed living on

campus were it not for the dining hall but, because of it, I'm actually moving off campus because I have no

options and it is extremely overpriced for the quality received.

• The quality of on campus dinning (Einstein's) has decreased dramatically over the past month. Specifically, they

give less food for the same amount of money, and the workers are rude

• I'd like to have a campus cafeteria (not the dining hall) where students who can't afford Dining Meals can still go

and get affordable food. The salad bar is amazing! I'd like to have something like that but with more food-food

like burgers, pasta, etc, that is as affordable! Or at least give us some coupons...

• I can't ever get in to my advisor-EVER. I don't understand why it is so difficult to get in to see someone who is

supposed to be here for me.

• The advising Dept, not so much! I went through four, and seemed to always get passed off. Getting them on the

phone to actually speak to them, was next to impossible. I just felt like I had to do my own schedule arranging,

because there was nobody looking over it to make sure I was on the best track or had the right course sequence

going that would save time and money, getting me to graduation the quickest possible based on my needs. The

response was always, "schedule a walk-in". That's almost impossible as I am at TAMUCC for it's online option and

live two hours from campus.

• There is no communication between Advisors/programs

• I would also like to express my frustration with the academic advising experiences I have had. Over the course of

my time at TAMUCC I have NEVER had a pleasant/informative academic advising experience. I feel that the

academic advisors do not truly care about the student's success. I would call for evaluations of not only the

Political Science advisors but every advisor.

Round Building - 9 comments along the lines of these…

• Terrible staff in the finical aid and business office .

• The people in the round building are rude.

• My problems are with the Financial Aid dept and Admission. I have had to submit my transcripts more than twice.

twice to Fin Aid and once to admissions. I had an error on my Financial Aid. It specifically told me that I didn't need

to to anything. Luckily i went to the financial aid dept myself and asked them about it. They wanted me to submit

an unofficial transcript. The Fin aid gentleman behind the counter told me go to to the other side of the counter

and have her print it out for me. She told me she couldn't and I would have to go to the library. I did. I then

submitted it to the man that told me to get it. Days later i called about it because I can't expect anyone in Fin Aid

to be checking on something that would seemingly be their job, and they told me that they need official

transcripts. Now i cannot register for summer classes until i get all my official transcripts in. Who knows what I'll

need after i submit the transcripts. What I do know is that no one in the financial aid department will notify me

when something is needed. I will always have to call them and hold their hand through every step of the process,

that they should really be helping me with.

Registration - 8 comments along the lines of these…

• The main problem area is online registration. It always crashes and I have to sign up for classes later

than expected.

• The only problems that I’ve constantly had is with registration and it was with sail shutting down

multiple times for close to an hour each time

• Registering for classes has been difficult, every semester. There is never enough seating or section

options, so it never fails that seats fill quickly and I have to email individual instructors for

permission to get added in.

• It's really hard to graduate in a reasonable amount of time when so many REQUIRED courses in my

major are closed only minutes after registration opens.

• There are several street lamps in parking lots that have not been operational for weeks. Overall campus lighting is

not sufficient. I walk alone to my car every night after working closing shifts on campus, and I don't feel very safe.

We need well-lit spaces to be and feel safe.

• The whiteboards in O'Conner are horrible. The CI has a very musty smell.

College of Business Students

Over the 2 years I have been here, I have come to learn a lot about this school. Over skewed tests based by a radical

liberal political science teacher brainwashing with her CNN narrative. All the way to putting me in 2 classes where I

swear the professors couldn't speak a lick of english because they were straight out of China. This 2017-2018

semester is the icing on the cake as to why I am leaving, waste of my money as I will be slandering this school back

home. Greatly disappointed with the education I have received, as well as my parents.

My overall educational experience has been great here on campus. Most of the professors I've had since I've been

here have opened my eyes about certain things and have made me feel welcomed. I've learned so much in my first

year of being here than my entire four years in high school. I love this place.

Very good. Difficult to find internships to gain experience and jobs that are interesting. I wish more companies would

come and companies that are more challenging. Too many local car dealerships and rental companies at career fairs. I

would like more international companies and bigger corporations.

From the time I started attending school here at TAMUCC, I have always felt welcomed and appreciated by my

teachers. I think the teachers in the COB in particular work very hard to try to communicate with students as often as

possible.

Overall my experience at this university has been good. However there are some professors who do a poor job at

teaching and organizing their course material. The food on this campus such as the subway or UC dining area is

somewhat clean. The employees at these food areas usually have an negative attitude towards students.

people in casa are stuck in routine and don't really care about your overall learning just helping you finish

assignments.

The professors are shit. They don't care about teaching the students. The advisors are lazy and incompetent. The

registration process if flawed. The financial aid office frequently denies financial aid to those in need and disability

services also don't care about the students nor do they assist students in need.

The first-year learning community is fantastic. I think having seminar has been an integral part of the overall college

experience and really gives you a feel of what to expect while you're at university. In my case Dr. McMahon has been

so supportive and helpful as I make my way through my first year!

My education this semester was a very ugly at the beginning.

With Gods' Grace , prayer, and the right individuals that God lead me to.

I was able to get on the right path to correcting issues I was having.

As well I was able to let others know where to go and who to talk with about their problems they were having,

TAMU-CC is a great university to get an education. All my professors and advisors are understanding and actually care

about my education, and prove it every time I come to them with questions or concerns.

We need a coffeee bar!!!

I have had a fair experience at my time at TAMUCC. I have had good and bad experiences here. Some of the

professors I have had here have had very hard times communicating their teaching styles effectively to the students. I

have also had professors that simply skip over certain concepts or chapters because they deem them irrelevant.

Can you replace Blackboard? Canvas is remarkably better and actually works.

College of Education Students:

I love this university!!

Please offer science core classes for those of us that cannot take them during the week day. Offer them evenings

please!!!

I would like there to be a way where when registering for classes the system doesn’t continuously kick you out. Also

that there are more courses that are required for major established. Also it has been expressed that it would be an

easier payment way if credit cards could be used.

My overall education experience was good. I am from a very different generation. I understand that there are much

younger students from all over, but it becomes an issue when they disrespect the professor, and the professor takes

no action due to fear of reprimand. Your staff should not fear telling the student that is constantly interrupting the

lecture, to leave.

So far I am enjoying my experience at TAMU-CC. My professors are passionate about what they teach and make

learning fun and easy to do.

As a transfer student, I must say the faculty and staff has been very helpful and accommodating.

Terrible staff in the finical aid and business office .

The major I’m in is horrible, they are not allowing me to graduate with in four years because they only have one

class available at one time with only 25 students allowed. If I would of known this I would of chose a different

school. It really is completely ridiculous that they are allowed to do that.

It has been good, I find being apart of an organization helped me adjust to college life easily and holds me more

accountable. I have had many great professors and great classes throughout my time here, however, I have also had

a few professors that I feel have had a negative affect on my experience by being unaccessible or dismissive

towards concerns, conflicts, or questions myself and other students approach them with. I feel that being faced with

that in a class makes it a lot harder to actually want to learn in that class.

Could use more approachable and better teaching method of Chemistry *** lab instructor ***. Seminar professor

did nothing over half of the students not contributing to a research project the ENTIRE semester. Seminar professor

expected the ones who did contribute to shoulder everyone else's expected work and impacted other classes of the

students who were doing most of the work.

College of Liberal Arts Students:

Tamucc does not give the "college experience" individuals are seeking. The professors are great and learning is

great but there is NOTHING here to do at TAMUCC. *** TAMUCC does nothing to make sure we have fun on

campus. There is barely ever anything to do at TAMUCC which makes the school very boring. Thus, leading to no

motivation or school spirit.

My experience had been average for the most part, but there are certain classes where I feel I am being assessed as

a group rather than an individual.

The people in the round building are rude. The food is too expensive in the dining hall. I can't ever get in to my

advisor-EVER. I don't understand why it is so difficult to get in to see someone who is supposed to be here for me.

Every time I call campus I am transferred like five times. Why can't I just get to the right place the first time?

The professors are fantastic. I think freshman seminar is a waste of time for high achieving students, should be

optional. And condense all of the websites down to one for students. One place to put all the on-campus activities,

one place to submit assignments, and one place to pay your bills, this would simplify everything. Also offer more

physics classes, when you offer only two general and university physics classes it is less likely that higher achieving

students will want to go to your school.

The only problems that I’ve constantly had is with registration and it was with sail shutting down multiple times for

close to an hour each time

I truly love my communication professors, so kudos to them.

The beautiful campus and great good like chick fil a and land express make for a happy, stress free environment

perfect for focusing on school work and expanding views and comfort zones.

I have had two classes in my two semesters here where the professor gets annoyed when you asks questions in

class. They are getting paid to educate us but get frustrated when we try to understand.

My main concern while attending TAMU-CC is about my degree plan. It started off fine when I entered the campus,

however once spring semester started, that's when I had to switch advisors and she threw my whole degree plan

off. I was initially supposed to graduate either Fall 2018 or Spring 2019 and she said I'm lucky to be graduating in

Spring 2022. (She might've been too busy sitting down using her workout ball than to pay attention to a student's

future.) I ended talking to another advisor, a secretary and many other college students about it and they all

reassured me that I should be graduating in either Fall 2018 or Spring 2019, which really calmed my nerves down.

Other than that incident, I have seen or dealt with nothing wrong here at this campus.

Stop letting hate-fueled bigots onto a campus that we students pay thousands of dollars to attend.

It is my first semester at TAMUCC but I definitely have to say that I have loved everything about it so far. I only

attend in person class once a week but I am extremely satisfied with my experience so far. The view and the

campus is amazing and beautiful . My classroom in the OConnor building is great and very clean. I really love

TAMUCC!

I am extremely displeased that group work seems to be the standard at this university. I find people to be

misinformed, opinionated, and extremely sensitive, for those reasons I prefer to work alone. However, the library is

set up for group work, classes focus on group work where MY grade is dependent upon others, and the overall

atmosphere of the campus does not promote solitary study. I enjoy my classes, I enjoy my professors, I find my

classmates to be mundane and sometimes annoying, but my overall take of the university is a positive one.

Just hasn’t seemed like a very friendly student base.

There should be more professors like Dr. Berkich! Only a handful of professors and faculty who actually seem to

care about their students, not only in their courses but others as well, and more importantly their students future

education or careers.

Parking is ridiculous. Campus police care more about giving parking tickets than trying to stop a man from hurling

insults at students. Parking passes are too expensive. Not sure why I pay all this tuition if I have to buy a ridiculously

priced pass to get to class. And no, bussing isn’t an option for everyone.

I would like to know more about the fitness area ? Are all students able to use it? What hours? Are there any groups

on campus or meetings for parents who are students? I have a 2 year old and going to school and work and being a

mom is a challenge I would like to know more about anything like that if it is offered

Arts department is full of racism, including the chair. Extreme lack of diversity in art.

Zero support for Native American students.

Next to no sympathy for homeless students.

Continued personal attacks and hate speech from Angry Preacher.

Continued violence from neo-Nazis on campus goes unchecked.

UPD is incompetent at best, and actively harmful at worst.

I absolutely love TAMU-CC and I will never regret choosing to continue my education here. I have learned so much

in the communication field and I look forward to applying that knowledge one day in my career.

With the recent housing management change, I am sad to see the price of living on campus has increased

tremendously. It has forced me to move off and away from campus. It has also lead to several friends leaving the

university because they cannot afford the tuition and housing costs.

The arts (music, theater, art) need new buildings and better equipment. We are cramped.

I've enjoyed my experience at TAMU-CC, but my issue is the city itself is very boring.

Professor *** barely showed up to class citing health reasons. How is it fair to automatically fail students if they have

a certain number of absences but its ok for the instructor to skip essentially 1/3 or more of her classes over a

semester? If education is not the goal, please make that more clear so I can save time and money.

For the 2 years that I have attended TAMU-CC, I have absolutely loved the help I have received from the CASA

services and the professors themselves. I love how green the university is and the notifications we get when

something goes wrong on campus.

I have had a harder time adjusting to University classes... I went to Del Mar for 3 years, and it was EASY. There is a

lot more homework at the university, and a lot more time needed to be dedicated to classes in order to do well. I

work, my husband is gone 1/2 the time for work and we have two little kiddos. Its hard!

Good overall experience

I would like to see the university place a greater emphasis on making college affordable for your students. Students

that perform well (academically) should be allowed to attend at a reduced rate of tuition (perhaps by removing the

exorbitant athletic fees). I believe that this will solve two important issues for the university. One, it will raise the

educational standards of the university (which is desperately needed). And two, I believe that it will also raise the

attrition rate, because the most serious students will continue to be able to afford their education.

Parking is WAY over priced and the parking lots are extremely past due for being fixed. Pot holes everywhere but

I’m still expected to pay $80 for a parking pass?!? Ridiculous

For the most part it has been amazing! I have had one or two profsssors that are absolutely terrible though where I

have not learned anything new from them.

I like how much attention a teacher can pay to individual students.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Students:

I love the enviorment

I love attending TAMUCC but as a nursing student the classrooms we have have limited space, there’s not a lot of

places to study do to over crowding, and not a lot of places that have outlets to charge our electronics.

I like the beach view TAMUCC has.

This is my first semester at TamuCC and so far, so good.

I love TAMU-CC. I am content with my professors, lab TA’s, SI leaders, and CASA tutors. I love the landscape of the

school it is calm, green, and beautiful. I am overly pleased with my decision to attend this university and I would

recommend this campus to high school students who are interested in attending.

Phenomenal experience so far. Very likely to encourage other to attend.

My instructors for all of the courses I've taken have been great. The advising Dept, not so much! I went through

four, and seemed to always get passed off. Getting them on the phone to actually speak to them, was next to

impossible. I just felt like I had to do my own schedule arranging, because there was nobody looking over it to make

sure I was on the best track or had the right course sequence going that would save time and money, getting me to

graduation the quickest possible based on my needs. The response was always, "schedule a walk-in". That's almost

impossible as I am at TAMUCC for it's online option and live two hours from campus.

Registering for classes has been difficult, every semester. There is never enough seating or section options, so it

never fails that seats fill quickly and I have to email individual instructors for permission to get added in. Now that I

am trying to finish my BSN this summer, and have applied for MSN program, my registration process has been

difficult again. There is no communication between Advisors/programs, and I'm told by email of my undergrad

advisor that I need to call Grad admissions to have holds released, that have been placed on after applying for the

MSN program. So, it's prevented me from being able to register early. Also, waiting on approval for summer hours

increase, and that is holding me up from squaring away my summer schedule. Just seems like communication is not

the strongest.

My education has been great until this semester. I am currently enrolled in BIOL *** and the instructor doesn't seen

to care about the students. Most of the class has failed the past 2 exams and she doesn't provide feedback on why.

There are questions where 4 out of 80 students get it correct due to her wording (this instructor is not from the US),

and she doesn't care to fix it, or go over to topic to ensure the students understand. Exams often have topics not

covered in class or in the text. Seems as she sets students up to fail as I have had this instructor for three prior classes

and all have been the same, having a high fail rate. I do hope this is something that gets looked into as I pay a heavy

amount in tuition for an instructor that doesn't care about students passing the course.

My experience here has been 50/50 some classes were extremely well taught and others were completely awful.

It just doesn’t feel like I’m getting the college experience nor like I’m getting a sufficient education, I feel like I’m not

ready to enter the workforce

I’m a junior transfer student from Del Mar college. I have no idea what’s offered to me at the campus, where

anything is on campus, or what there is to do at campus. I love my professors so far but starting at a college where

everyone knows each other already is really hard.

it was okay lots of problems with financial aid.

I feel as though this school has a bunch of people who have never worked hard a day in their life, and it often shows

in their GPA. I find it unfortunate that professors are often blamed during hard classes for those students who refuse

or could care less to study.

My learning experience has been somewhat good, except when I've had to take labs with my classes, especially with

the sciences. Most of the lab TA's don't understand what they're teaching themselves and we were graded most of

the time unfairly. I also felt if they didn't like you or you didn't suck up you were graded lower. There is definitely a

lot of favoritism when it comes to the lab TA's. I do feel like real science instructors should be teaching us.

College of Science and Engineering Students:

Most professors are good, I liked Smith and Castanzo and I really like Maceyko in math this semester. The only one I

have truly disliked is *** in POLS because he is just so monotone. I go to lecture but I only ever learn stuff from the

book because I can't retain anything he says.

The discrepancy between the education provided by a full time staff and an adjunct is easily noted and this campus

relies to heavily on adjunct teachers

I have not been satisfied with the new faculty that has entered the computer science program here at the school,

there are only a few good professors that I can rely on to truly teach and care about providing a comprehensive and

in depth curriculum and complimentary course work for students. I have encountered more than 5 teachers so far

who I have been unable to understand, who do nothing but read from slides or are unhelpful when it comes to

students seeking additional help for assignments and understanding of the material. I would appreciate a more in

depth and extensive process when deciding who to admit as professors into the computer science programs so that

us students can receive the quality of education we paid for. I do not pay 10 thousand dollars a year for someone to

read me slides.

good place to start off small and get used to college life

I think the professors let people get away with too much and are too lenient with cheaters and disruptive people.

Please stop making us use ALEKS for chemistry it doesn’t correlate to anything we learn. Mater of fact neither does

connect and it takes away from the time we desperately need to study. Stop forcing students to do ridiculous

amounts of homework and pay a bunch of money for something that brings there grade down because it’s

impossibek to complete and doesn’t aid in learning.

Educational Experience is fine. My problems exist with the Financial aid dept and Admission.

Definitely satisfied with my experience as a transfer student at TAMU-CC thus far.

There needs to be better T.A.s in the labs. As a science major i deserve someone who knows what they are doing and

wants to be there.

Great! I'd like to see more course availability for BIMS electives though. I hope to see SI continue because I thank

them for my 4.0 GPA as a BIMS major.

Charging for print is ridiculous. The price for the food in the University Center is too expensive. The same goes for

subway which includes no coupons nor gift cards. Paying for parking is also ridiculous and too pricey.

Better laboratory equipment and a published audit of student fund allocation.

My only complaint is that the computers in CI 229 should be updated due to them being extremely slow, but then

again you have to operate within your budget.

The main problem area is online registration. It always crashes and I have to sign up for classes later than expected.

Some professors do not seem to care about the students learning, and brag about a pass rating of 40% as if it is the

students fault and not the way a class is (not) being taught.

There’s not really anything that displeases me about the educational experience.

I'm taking the second semester of the forensic science course, Professional practice, for my forensics concentration

and I have never had such a horrible experience with a class. I feel like I'm throwing money away because these are

classes I need but all I've learned is equatable to a few google searches. We "learned" the same thing this semester

as we did the first semester. Different book, same information, student-made presentations for all of it. I literally sat

through a group presenting (because all the material we learn is from presentations the students themselves make)

the same material I myself helped present the previous semester. With the same teacher. The teacher is woefully

unprepared to teach this class and I'm so disappointed in the school for allowing this. We also have zero grades in

the gradebook right now despite having turned things in like a month ago. That'd be understandable if we didn't

have like three assignments total. It's frustrating and I'm not the only one feeling that way. A few of the ones who

don't are weirdly friends with the professor.

Classroom's capacities are below the needed number for some courses that students need to graduate. This has

been an on-going situation for mechanical engineer students that hasn't been resolved yet. It would be unfortunate

to experience this in my major as well.

PLEASE rethink how the summer semester classes are distributed. "Maymester" sounds great on paper but it's a

torture that I'd never wish on any student no matter how much I'd hate them. Two weeks of class for a tech elective

is atrocious and shouldn't be, by any means, the allotted time for any course above sophomore level. If these will be

offered in the summer, at least consider 4 weeks of lecture.

Speaking of tech electives, there are very few of them for Engineering in general; if this is just for this college, please

add more.

Overall, I have loved my educational experience from TAMUCC. I love the smaller school the smaller class sizes

because the professors see you as a student rather than just a number in the class. Most of the professors know my

name know what I want to do and much more about me. They take the time to get to know their students and help

them in anyway possible to succeed. That is what I love most about this campus.

I would like it if professors are more hands on to many of the subjects that we're learning, and less in a powerpoint.

The labs in the CS are a joke. I am very upset that I did not look into the TAMUCC labs before even applying (I have

always known I want to work in labs so why did I not make sure they would be well equipped???). Every time I was

excited to go into the organic chemistry lab, I would end up disappointed during the experiments. EVERY sink in

there leaks water. The faucets are all green already and some do not even work. The vacuum pumps are also very

worn out and I am sure that that is why they are louder than I think they should be. The hoods in that lab are so old,

I'm afraid they may not serve their purpose properly. The physics lab is also terrible. We never have enough room on

those crappy tables for our experiments and on the seat that I have during my physics lab, there is a piece of

plywood on the back of one of the tables that is literally falling off! If this school would spend a bit more money on

the labs and a little less on landscaping to attract students, the science community would be happy.

It's really hard to graduate in a reasonable amount of time when so many REQUIRED courses in my major are closed

only minutes after registration opens. I can plan the next two years of my academic life with my adviser, only to find

that several of the classes I'm supposed to register for are already closed. It's extremely frustrating, and I hate

delaying graduation by multiple semesters just because of this!

I'm enjoying it so far!

This campus provides a network for helping students succede that i have prevously not experienced.

Computer Science specific courses are taught by a majority of non-american professors, and that makes the courses

overall much more challenging because not we have to try and learn complex concepts by professors who struggle

to speak English and speak it with a heavy accent. Usually these professors struggle through reading off of the

power-point lecture slides, and mispronounce words while having multiple typos and grammar errors within their

slides.

I wish TAMUCC provided more for me to have a sense of pride to be able have school pride and be able to tell

somebody that I am an Islander and I'm extremely proud to be one.

Also more research opportunities for undergraduates!

*** displayed that she can be disrespectful to whoever she wants because she's incharge as she is always right. Lady

should have listened instead of making irrational assumptions and judgements that only made the situation worse.

I wish that we could have a more diverse and connected school. It is a great campus but it's not all that inclusive

unless you're in certain organizations and even then you just have to luck out and choose the right one. We also

need more school spirit. We have no parades, field days etc. (although I know it is not required) I just feel as if we

need more school spirit since we lack a football team and our school isn't the typical college.

It would be nice to have more student events and more work done to get the name of TAMUCC out around the

country. I would like to be able to talk to people and have a recognized school.

To be completely honest, one thing that would like to see LESS of is the presentations and programs that are

specifically for the Muslim culture. It makes me angry and I feel unappreciated that there are teachers here that are

giving presentations that talk about being a "Muslim in America" and what it means to be a "Muslim woman in

America". What happened to teaching American values? Why aren't there presentations being offered that discuss

how proud we should be to live in the United States?

Also, I would like to see LESS promotions for the LGBT "community" on campus. I am tolerant of their choices, but I

do not agree with them. I do not find it fair at all that I am accosted by members of the LGBT club that insist on

shoving their beliefs down my throat and everyone else's that still appreciate marriage between men and women. I

honestly believe that if there was a club on campus that celebrated "straight pride" and if the members were

constantly hounding people to support their cause, I can guarantee that members and nonmembers of the LGBT

club would come unglued and protest and complain that they don't agree with those practices, and in the end they

would go to their safe spaces to cry about inequality.

The breeze way is really dirty (spider webs on lights and walls). I purposefully go around the university avoiding this

area.

The classes offered that I need to take usually fall within noon and 4pm. This proposes a problem for me because

whatever shift I choose to work (days 6am to 4pm) or (swings 2pm to 12 midnight) I cant enroll in these classes. I

wished some of these classes were offered in the morning hours or in the late evening hours which would help me

complete my degree path.

I wish I never went here. I will not be buying a ring. Nor will I cross the stage at graduation. I will never purchase any

material advertising my attendence of this college and I will most likely not donate any money post-graduation. Even

if I become the wealthiest person in the world.

Something needs to be done about the cats and the skunks. Having them all around campus is not a very

professional collegiate look. It also makes things seem unsanitary.

Yes, before new students come in, they all should be given a proper guidance of what is transferred and what is not,

That way they are not blindsided like many of us who were told that everything transfer from Del Mar College. That

really put a damper on my worth as a student.

As well each student coming to TAMUCC should be shown every building not just the buildings they are going to be

taken classes in. Each student has a right to their environmental surroundings,

They should know that there is a security guard in each building that has one, should they need one.

Lower tolerance for rude language/profanity in class and at the school

We need more parking.

College of Education Students:

Seminar classes seem unnecessary if I’ve already taken many other classes already. Most are offered during the day

and I work

More available online classes would be wonderful! I wanted to take several classes in the summer and fall that were

online but they were full before I was able to register for them. (I registered at midnight on my allowed day)

I am unable to take classes on campus for the time being but I would still like to be enrolled in classes!

The person who yells at the students walking by needs to stop. It is annoying that he promotes hate to everyone. I

The whiteboards in O'Conner are horrible. The CI has a very musty smell.

I would like to be more involved in organizations and events that pertain to my major.

The financial aid process is awful and confusing, especially for newly married individuals. Several staff members each

gave different information which made the process longer and more difficult. The website could be more

navigatable.

TAMUCC is an awesome place of learning. I love all the unity and engaging interactions and connections being

made.

The major I’m in is horrible, they are not allowing me to graduate with in four years because they only have one class

available at one time with onl 25 students allowed. If I would of known this I would of chose a different school. It

really is completely ridiculous that they are allowed to do that.

No, keep up the good work!!

College of Liberal Arts Students:

As a Political Science major it is extremely disappointing that there are hardly ever any options as far as summer

session courses. If there are the core political science courses available I do not understand why there are no upper

level courses. I would also like to express my frustration with the academic advising experiences I have had. Over the

course of my time at TAMUCC I have NEVER had a pleasant/informative academic advising experience. I feel that the

academic advisors do not truly care about the student's success. I would call for evaluations of not only the Political

Science advisors but every advisor.

There needs to be an update on certain protocols for specific registration circumstances such as registering for a

Maymester and registering for 2 Summer Session I courses, which leads the students unable to register for the 3

classes and since it's not a true overload. I ask that the University truly reevaluates the different colleges, the

programs, and the Program Coordinators. I believe TAMUCC can be a great university, but there are many problems

that need to be addressed before it can get there.

some things here are good but this is basically a school for people just starting. All my friends plan to transfer. It's

just cheaper to start here. Althetics kind of are a joke and that's why I don't go.

Like I said earlier freshman seminar is a waste of time and is generally only offered for classes that I don't need help

with. It would be nice if something like that was offered for more difficult classes such as calculus or physics. But

instead, they are offered for classes such as Texas government and psychology which I don't really need help with.

The professors are very biased on what political party they affiliate with (liberal) , and I find his very troubling. The

students do not need to know the professor’s political biases and then have these biases projected on the student as

if they are facts.

When I first started attending Texas A&M-Corpus Christi I was told I would only have to take one first-year seminar

class because of how many dual credit hours I came in with. However, I am now being forced to take another to

graduate. I find this back-and-forth to be very annoying, and I feel that I should not be forced to take a class I do not

need (I have a 4.0, obviously I am doing just fine without the class).

The crosswalks on campus are very scary because drivers either won't stop for pedestrians or wave you across very

rudely. I've had to leap for the sidewalk because a driver refused to slow down many times. I mainly use the one in

the middle of sandollar boulevard but this happens at others too. There are also two giant potholes in sandollar

boulevard at the time I'm writing this.

I'm in high school.

The dining hall needs to be open later for kids like Theatre majors who aren't free until late at night. Most students

are up late anyways and the food truck doesn't have very healthy options. Also, I have gotten rotten fruit and

undercooked chicken more than once from the dining hall.

Fix chairs in CI building that squeak when you move and disrupt class.

Everything is expensive, I’m poor and financial aid hates me.

The hours of food operations and food options other than Dining Hall could be extended. Furthermore, the prices

could be reduced. A bagel with spread at Einstein Bagels is $3.00+, which is expensive for a student and in general.

'-Parking is terrible!

-Grades rely heavily on exams. Speaking as a student who gets very nervous during exams, which effects my

performance on them, I don't feel my grades accurately reflect the knowledge I have gained in my courses.

-Also, we pay a lot of money to attend classes at this university and the expectations placed upon us is that of an

adult level. We have this expectation to meet yet have mandatory attendance that counts as part of our grade in

these classes. I understand that this will likely not change but I feel it should be made aware, if not already, that even

though this might help some students, by making the ones who are likely to skip, come to class; It also can have a

negative effect on the ones who would of come to class even if it was not mandatory. Countless times I have been in

my classes where these students have wasted valuable time and caused professors to not be able to adequately

explain the material.

The counseling center hasn't had a psychiatrist (the only person who can prescribe medication) in like 2 years. That's

ridiculous. Can someone please hire a new psychiatrist?

Quit letting that crazy asshole preacher come yell at students on campus.

It feels as if unless you are majoring in STEM, EC Ed, or English, there's really no point in attending here.

Get better teachers. If you really don't do a better job at teaching students, you will find in the next decade or so that

it will be incredibly hard for the school to get students, let alone retain them. The internet will come up with an

education and accreditation system fast if Universities keep failing.

When pedestrians are crossing, drivers should be more careful and aware of them and at least go the speed limit of

20 mph. On the second entrance of the university, I have almost gotten hit by a car because they were stopped but

then decided to go while I was crossing. There is also a wait to cross because drivers seem to be in a rush to go

home or find parking.

The landscaping is terrible. The employees are forced to cut all vegetation to close and have killed many tree's and

other vegetation. The flora and fauna has suffered due to the very irresponsible and unprofessional ethics of

Compass. They have no pride or sense of responsibility to the environment. The should be named "we don't give a

damn about the campus living things as long as we get the money".

This is a great university.

Skunk, possum, and cat problem on campus. Kind of scary at night!

Parking is, and has always been a problem at TAMUCC, more parking spots is a start, and if you do decide to open

more parking garages the price should not be so much as to a regular college student cannot afford it. considering

this may be one of the only options for parking availability.

Also There are a fair share of classrooms which do not have updated desks in them for example with access to power

outlets from where you are sitting, this is a major complication when you need your electronic device for class, and

there is no where to charge it.

Keep pushing students to join student organizations

Make organizations more easier to see when events are instead of having to go to hundreds of different I-ENGAGE

pages across tons of different social media sights pages. Make a one stop shop cause I don't to invest a bunch in

time just to find something that might be affiliated with me.

Fix the parking issue or lower the prices for parking passes!!

The only thing that needs help is the parking lots, they are way too expensive and are crumbling. It is easy to slip

while unloading my car. Bay Hall always smells kind of weird too.

I would like to see more conservative viewpoints from faculty or at least have them acknowledged. Especially from

the history department. Although I don't fully agree with conservatism it would be nice to see a diversity of thought

that could more effectively challenge the students rational. I remember mainly being thought what to think not how

to think.

To be more aware on the dinning hall me as resident of miramar i would like to have better options of food

sometimes it’s really good but somedays it’s literally a waste of money because there is not a big variety of food

same thing always pizza , hamburgers, pastas and something that is done for the day. And in the food truck the wait

is of 1 hr or more and same thing the the food is not to good and they don’t have a variety like before in the

begging of the year where they had quesadillas, wraps , burritos like real food not like now that they only have

hamburgers and the meat is not even good quality they must buy the cheapest kind to have a better profit for them.

But this is unacceptable. I hope there is a change next year that either we are not required to buy this worthless plan

of food or step it up in the food because we are paying a good significant amount and expect to have a good

outcome for us not only for the profit of the school. Because when we came for orientation with our parents and

came to eat in the dinning hall they did really good the food to convince the parents that this was worth it paying

and this’s a whole lie.

I hope that somebody will actually read this in hopes that it will help improve the dining hall on campus. The Islander

dining hall has the most unhealthy food on campus, hands down. I'm vegan so there's nothing for me to ever eat

and the vegetables at the dining hall are drenched in oil and butter. I eat a sandwich almost every single day because

the rest of the food is so unhealthy and rarely ever do they have any real options for me. The food is also incorrectly

labeled such as brussel sprouts will say that they are vegan and then I go to eat them and they have bacon in them.

This is something that has really affected my life because I would have stayed living on campus were it not for the

dining hall but, because of it, I'm actually moving off campus because I have no options and it is extremely

overpriced for the quality received. My doctor wrote a note to the director of the dining hall saying I shouldn't eat

there because of the lack of options and the unhealthy food and my appeal was rejected. Reggie also waited 8 days

to reject my letter so I was unable to repeal it as we were already 4 days into the semester. As an Islander, I feel like a

great injustice has been done to me and I'm ashamed of the way that this whole situation has been handled. I was

informed that I could have them make things in advance for me but it's ridiculous that I can't just walk in there like

anybody else and expect good food made for me when I'm in a rush. Over the summer, I lost a significant amount of

weight and got my body fat down to 30%. Eating at the dining hall, my body fat percentage is now 37% and won't

budge because of the fatty foods provided, even though I'm eating the same menu as I was at home. Everything at

the dining hall also tastes very low quality and it doesn't even taste like anyone put any thought into what was made.

The to go Section is ridiculous plain and simple. The fact that we are students pay $2,400 to eat there and can't pick

whatever food we want from the dining hall is absolute maddness. Being someone with a strict diet, this means I

can't ever even have to go because, again, there are no options. I feel like many other health oriented students feel

the same and I hope something is done about the state of the dining hall because as is, I will NEVER recommend any

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Students:

Course Evaluations - Please use our student evaluations to determine future employment. If numerous students

express serious concerns (such as teaching a something completely unrelated to the course, bias, unfairness), please

evaluate that staff member and take appropriate actions.

Parking - Please build another garage or parking area. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to park on campus.

Student Orgs- Support all of them, not just the ones that make our university "look good". I am a member of a Greek

sorority and have never received any form of support from university staff/faculty other than my assigned advisors.

The application process for accepting nursing students to the nursing program. Although, I am doing really good.

Some of us have been trying our hardest to get accepted and still no luck even after the second/third time around.

I think updating some of the older buildings would be beneficial. The AC seems to go out at least twice a semester

and if there were more "lounge" areas at the entrances (like the one in O'Conner) it would allow a place for students

to gather and relax in-between classes.

Make the library open 24 hours!!!!!!

The classes at the gym need to be bigger, especially cycling. The campus population ratio to the amount of people let

in classes is unfair. Students would love the chance to create a healthier lifestyle but need sort of a coach like figure.

Create bigger cycling classes and just bigger rooms in general so more students have a chance to workout.

Bring back free printing

Parking! A great alternative for students or staff to pay off citations would be to donate canned food or other items

that would help the campus stock up the "Islander Food Pantry" for students in need and any excess items could be

donated to non-profits anywhere in the city.

Some professors teach material that they don’t test on or don’t teach student show to properly take their exams.

Add more tradition to the school. People would like it here more if there was more traditions like A&M-College

Station

Academic advising absolutely sucks. My advisor does not care about my education. Freshmen year told me stuff I

needed that I didn't need. I found out from other students instead. I had recede an email about the 6 drop class thing

and I had emailed her to get an appointment for that, she asked for my A number and just cleared it so I wouldn't

need to go talk to her. Although I do need to talk to her about future classes and guidance. I asked If I could go to a

different advisor that helped a lot during walk ins and was told because my last name is D that I need to be with the

one I have I cannot change. I do not go to my academic advisor anymore.

Make more parking

College of Science and Engineering Students:

The only reason I put that I was dissatisfied with the freedom of speech is because that "You're all going to hell" guy

was here last week 3 days in a row. If it was just one day I wouldn't have minded, but 3 days is a bit much and it was

only because we had no right to stop him. Because he had all the freedom of speech he could ask for.

SI SESSIONS ARE THE BEST!!! SUPER HELPFUL AS WELL

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the philosophy professors that I have had, I really enjoy all that this program and its

teachers have to offer.

chem II lab is hurting everyone this semester, even those with As in lecture, fix what ever is going on behind the

scenes or any communication problems.

The health care on our campus is awful, they have turned me away while throwing up several times. I have begged for

help they don’t care. They won’t even give me a physical or let me use the pharmacy even though I have the

universities insurance. This place is useless and it is sad how little they do. Being a cancer survivor I feel in danger

having no health services in college.

My problems are with the Financial Aid dept and Admission. I have had to submit my transcripts more than twice.

twice to Fin Aid and once to admissions. I had an error on my Financial Aid. It specifically told me that I didn't need to

to anything. Luckily i went to the financial aid dept myself and asked them about it. They wanted me to submit an

unofficial transcript. The Fin aid gentleman behind the counter told me go to to the other side of the counter and

have her print it out for me. She told me she couldn't and I would have to go to the library. I did. I then submitted it

to the man that told me to get it. Days later i called about it because I can't expect anyone in Fin Aid to be checking

on something that would seemingly be their job, and they told me that they need official transcripts. Now i cannot

register for summer classes until i get all my official transcripts in. Who knows what I'll need after i submit the

transcripts. What I do know is that no one in the financial aid department will notify me when something is needed. I

will always have to call them and hold their hand through every step of the process, that they should really be helping

me with.

The semester after returning from an academic suspension, there was a reistration hold that was not displayed in Sail,

and my advisors we're not aware of hold during advising. I was awake until midnight waiting for registration to open

to find out I still had holds blocking me from registration. Luckely, I was able to register for the classes I needed

after calling my advisor.

I would like to see more study rooms like those in the oconnor. The group study area in the library can get pretty loud

and there isnt a lot of room downstairs in the library. And the library study rooms and oconnor study rooms are

always occupied.

The school is a racist school.

Some courses only have one professor. I would at least like a choice in who to take. This would also provide better

class availability.

The quality of on campus dinning (Einstein's) has decreased dramatically over the past month. Specifically, they give

less food for the same amount of money, and the workers are rude

My only complaint is that the computers in CI 229 should be updated due to them being extremely slow, but then

again you have to operate within your budget.

When you repainted the anchor statue outside the UC white it was ugly. Extremely ugly. It was horrible to look at

and I hated it. It wasn't even a nice shade of white. It didn't look good at all. It was supposed to be some "new

tradition" thing, yeah? But.. uh.. It's a very ugly one. I can't emphasize that enough. It did not look good. Please

spare the anchor next year.

Also, Jesus guy? The crazy guy who hangs around calling people slurs and telling us all we're going to heck (censored

because I don't think this survey will go through if I curse, which is ironic considering he curses the students whenever

he shows up). Yeah it would be really, REALLY cool if you guys could do something about that. I realize he's got his

free speech and all, but he's going way beyond that when he causes disruptions that affect people's ability to get to

their class. (That MASSIVE pileup when he was in the breezeway was not fun, I heard.) He's not there now, but, future

reference - we the students don't like it when he is here.

THE MATH DEPARTMENT NEEDS MORE MONEY!

On ocean drive, at the stop light before making a turn to head to campus, the bike lanes are super unstable and have

a higher risk of collision. If you could help solve that by adding a bigger bike lane of some sort, that would be

amazing.

A few of the computer science professors are very hard to learn from. Not just because of their accents (i think all

students have gotten used to this) but in general the way they teach, Specifically when there is no interactions and

just lecture it is very had to learn. I have only encountered 2 professors like this but they are popular professors i most

likely will have to have again.

I am a BIMS student that got assigned *** as an advisor. ***. If administration has not heard enough about *** by this

point, then they need to be made more available. I am not someone who tends to argue with adults but *** is flat out

rude to every single student that has walked into that office. He flat told me (and about 5 other students that are also

in BIMS) that "we should not have to go to him for guidance and to take whatever classes we feel like taking). EVERY

year I talk about my unfortunate encounters with that disgrace named *** because every semester I hear students

talking about how they got into arguments with him as well. He is very disrespectful and he does not seem like he is

qualified to be designated as anyones advisor. I was in a freshman seminar class and he was invited to present

himself. When that seminar class ended that day, I was so disheartened to see 4 students immediately get up and go

ask the teacher "what do I have to do to change my major". *** very heavily encourages students to not go into

Biomedical sciences. I feel bad for the students that get him as an advisor in the future because administration never

listens to student complaints about him.

There are several street lamps in parking lots that have not been operational for weeks. Overall campus lighting is not

sufficient. I walk alone to my car every night after working closing shifts on campus, and I don't feel very safe. We

need well-lit spaces to be and feel safe. Also, there just isn't enough parking. I've already expressed this in other

surveys. At best, it's frustrating. At worst, it's angering when I arrive on campus 30 minutes before a class starts and

can't even make it there on time because of the lack of parking spots.

sometimes the artwork in the library makes me feel uncomfortable especially this most recent one that compaired

trans students to rats. dont get me wrong I love seeing and supporting the amazing young artists on this campus but

as a woman I am greatly offended by the perverse fixation on the female anatomy.

Computer Science specific courses are taught by a majority of non-american professors, and that makes the courses

overall much more challenging because not we have to try and learn complex concepts by professors who struggle to

speak English and speak it with a heavy accent. Usually these professors struggle through reading off of the power-

point lecture slides, and mispronounce words while having multiple typos and grammar errors within their slides.

The spot in front of the CS, between the CI and CS, always smells like cigarettes and there are people always smoking

there even though it is not included as an authorized smoking area.

The availability of classes for the biology classes needs improvement. Many biology majors need to take the same

classes, they close quickly because there is not enough openings for the demand of the class. The course catalog also

needs to be updated. There are many courses that are stated in the catalog that are not offered at TAMUCC.

I'd like to have a campus cafeteria (not the dining hall) where students who can't afford Dining Meals can still go and

get affordable food. The salad bar is amazing! I'd like to have something like that but with more food-food like

burgers, pasta, etc, that is as affordable! Or at least give us some coupons...

The area around the outside of the island can really use a good clean up. And a good restoration. Those Brazilian

pepper trees and other non-native trees, weeds, and grasses may show that the college really doesn't care about the

environment.
