GHCA Summer Report for Activity Directors

Rita Hudson, Rockmart Health, GSNHAD Liaison

Georgia Society of Nursing Home Activity Directors (GSNHAD) members have remained steadfast in providing quality

activities and supporting the needs of their loved residents. The board and councils continue to meet regularly working on

the production of the annual conference as well as hosting council meetings to share valuable education with others. We

want to thank center administrators and operators for their support in allowing their activity director to be involved in such a

meaningful organization.

The Activity Director State Approved 36 Hour Course was

held in April with 60 new activity directors becoming certified.

Presenters and education topics both received excellent

reviews. The next course will be held November 5-9, 2018.

The 43rd Annual Ms. Georgia Health Care Association

Pageant was held at the Evergreen Resort and Conference Center in Stone Mountain in

April with 20 lovely contestants participating. All enjoyed the day celebrating the

wonderful ladies and all their accomplishments. Ms. Sheryl Reese from Macon

Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center was named Ms. GHCA 2018. The other finalists that

placed were:

1st Runner Up – Carolyn Shaw, Westbury Medical Care Home

2nd Runner Up – Pauline Turner, Twin Oaks Convalescent Center

3rd Runner Up – Will Virginia Fant, Brightmoor Nursing Center

4th Runner Up – Martha Turner, Westbury Conyers LLC

We want to thank our esteemed judges and special guest, Representative Sharon

Cooper for being a part of our wonderful event. The 2019 Ms. GHCA Pageant will be held

at a different location next year and we hope to have that information to you soon so you

can go ahead and plan to attend!

National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) was held May 13-19 “Celebrating Life’s

Stories.” GSNHAD partnered with the GHCA Public Relations Committee again to host

the social media photo contest. Receiving over 660 “Likes” and 160 shares on their

photo submission, is Westbury Health & Rehab of Conyers!!!

We want to thank all our members who participated in this year’s NSNCW photo

contest. Because of your participation and enthusiasm, we were able to reach over

60,000 Facebook users throughout NSNCW and showcase the wonderful things centers

are doing to enrich the lives of residents.

We are also excited to share that we have partnered with Tabitha Johnson from Dementia Education & Consulting LTD to

have offered our first of many Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar in May. Our next course will be offered in

August.

As always, I sincerely thank each of you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you as an organization and please

know that I am always here for you if you ever need anything.

First Day of Summer

Cameron Mosley, Life Enrichment Director- The Lodge of Warner , Middle Georgia Council Member

Happy Summer everyone! Today is officially the first day of summer and

we are excited about it. We started off our year cold, cold, cold and are

ready for cool popsicles and warm sunny days on our back porch. So far,

this year has been busy! Let’s face it;

every year is busy when you’re an

activities professional! We kicked off

our year with a tailgate party for the

Georgia/Alabama rose bowl game.

Our residents enjoyed a band, deli-

cious “gameday food,” and decora-

tions! February was a busy month,

as we celebrated Super Bowl, Mardi

Gras, and Valentines- all in three

weeks! Residents enjoyed lots of

parties, decorations, great food,

bands, dancing, and, of course….

BEADS! For St. Patrick’s day, we

hosted a lunch party with a band,

dancing, decadent Irish foods, and GREEN EVERYTHING! Trust me, no one was getting pinched this year. Easter came

around and our residents were excited to dye Easter eggs for our Easter Brunch. We had so much fun- our kitchen staff

put on an amazing brunch for over 100 people. Cinco de mayo came within the same week so we threw on sombreros, ate

lots of tacos, had (virgin) margaritas, and FIESTA’d! For Mother’s Day, we hosted a beautiful brunch with over 150 guests.

One of our residents daughters sang, “You are my hero” to her mom and there wasn’t a dry eye in the entire building. Each

year, we celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care week in a big way! This year, we decided to time travel back to the 1950’s

-1990’s and IT WAS A BLAST! We started the week with diner style food and music, jeopardy, beach parties, watermelon

eating contests, and boogying. We sang karaoke, danced, dressed in silly attire, ate TONS of delicious food, and exercised

to music of each era. To finish the week off, we honored our “90+’s” by hosting an elite 90’s luncheon. We served chicken

and ribs fresh off the grill, roses to our

residents, and sparkling cider. Are you

tired yet? We aren’t! Next was Memorial

Day. We held a fun cookout with

hotdogs and hamburgers. We set up a

table for our Veterans and gifted each

of them with care packages donated by

the American Red Cross! For Father’s

Day, we invited all of our male residents

families to an ice cream and dancing

social with Dad! We gave personal Fa-

ther’s Day cards to each resident and

loved on our residents a little extra. Last

Page 4: 2018 Summer Issue - Georgia Health Care Association Summer Progress Notes.pdf · want to thank center administrators and operators for their support in allowing their activity director

but certainly not least, we celebrated National Nurses week, Social Worker’s week, Administrative Professional’s Week,

Administrator week, Activity Professional’s Week, and National CNA Week. I want to give a personal THANK YOU to all of

our staff who so generously give their time and compassion to provide our patients with the best possible quality of

life. “Alone we can do so little, Together we can do so much.”

Aloha, Until next time!

Brightmoor Nursing Center Buzz

Misty Mays, Brightmoor Nursing Center, West Central

Council Member

Can you believe that half a year has passed by at Bright-

moor Nursing Center. We have had so many exciting

things going on. We started our year off with a Deficiency

Free Survey. Way to go Team Brightmoor. At our Annual

Ms. Brightmoor Pageant We had 7 wonderful young ladies to participate. My favorite part of the pageant is finding out

about these remarkable lady’s lives. The winner of our pageant was selected to participate in the Ms. Georgia Health Care

Pageant where she placed 3rd runner up.

In May we had the special privilege to honor all or nurses with a day full of fun and food. Not to mention National Skilled

Nursing Home Week as we celebrated Life Stories Through the Decades with all the residents, staff, community and fami-

lies. We started the week with Mr. James Westbury and Penny Griffin sharing the history of Brightmoor, what a treat. We

had fun when the staff played our very own resident volleyball team The Net Servers and enjoyed a catered lunch from the

Varsity. We concluded our week with a magical Memories Magic Show.

It is with great joy that I get to share that our administrator, David Galloway was selected as the 2018 administrator of the

year in June. What a blessing to have him as our team leader, captain, and biggest cheer leader. And just last week we

had the pleasure of celebrating National C.N.A. week with a steak dinner and gifts. Very deserving for all the small, hugs

and laughs they share with each resident every day.

As you can tell we have had a wonderful year thus far and hope the momentum continues on to the next half of the year.

Keep smiling, sharing your passion and hope to see you all at convention.

In the South We Only Have Two Seasons… Summer & Winter

Wanda Blackwell, Georgia War Veterans Home, Middle Georgia Council President

It seems as though in the South, we only have two seasons….Summer and Winter. The month of April had some unusual-

ly hot days here in Georgia! However, our gardens are full of vegetables, fruit, and flowers! Our veterans and volunteers

have faithfully watered and weeded the gardens and the crops are bountiful. However, the veterans favorite activity is eat-

ing the dishes prepared with the vegetables and fruits from their garden. We honored our Volunteers with a ceremony and

Appreciation Dinner. Georgia War Veterans Home is blessed to have a large number of volunteers that our residents look

forward to interacting with on a regular basis. This year GWVH entered a team in the local “Relay for Life” event. Our vet-

erans and staff attended this annual event and had a great time! April kicked off our cookout season with the Nam Knights

veterans organization providing hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad, chips, desserts, and drinks. The veter-

ans enjoyed several more cookouts and a fish fry during the month. In addition, the residents participated in the monthly

bingos, bowling, arts and crafts, spades, pool, putt-putt, shopping trips, and parties. May started with a trip to Parkside

Main 8 at Lake Oconee for a movie and lunch provided by the Knights of Columbus. The month was very busy with Na-

tional Skilled Care Nursing week activities for the veterans and staff. This year GWVH celebrated past memories and

made new ones with a Mother’s Day social, a Hawaiian Luau, a day with Carnival games and food, a pancake and sau-

sage breakfast, putt-putt and a corn hole tournament. The veterans really enjoyed the homemade peach ice cream and

pound cake (the peaches were from the veterans garden). The month ended with our annual Memorial Day Service at the

Veterans Cemetery. This event is always emotional as we honor our veteran heroes. The Patriot Guard Riders placed

wreaths at each grave site and it was a beautiful ceremony. The GWVH activity staff honored the veterans with a cookout

for Father’s day. Finally, our veterans who attend the arts and crafts class held on campus visited the local Allied Arts De-

partment to view the “Artists with Disabilities” exhibit. This exhibit travels throughout Georgia to showcase the work of

these talented artists (our veterans included). A reception followed and the veterans enjoyed homemade treats. I cannot

believe how fast these past 6 months have flown by…We have been busy at GWVH, but we have enjoyed each day with

our veterans!

Greetings from Lenbrook Square

Shondrella Little, Lenbrook Square, GSNHAD State Vice President

It’s been a wonderful first half of the year!

It wouldn’t be a New Year without a New Year’s Eve and a New Year celebration to

start off 2018 with a bang! We’ve had everything from great entertainment, arts &

crafts, great socials and much, much more.

New Years was complete with great food, music and dancing!! We love to dance! Spara-

dise (Our made up word) is always great! The residents just loved to be pampered with fa-

cials, make-up and hand massages along with some smooth soothing music. Mardi Gras

was next! We enjoyed sugary king cake and a special punch that was just a s colorful as

our king cake. Valentine’s Day was especially great. Bridging the gap, involving the staff

and residents is what we look forward to. To bridge that gap we hosted out “Sweetest Sweetheart Bake-off, which consist-

ed of the staff baking their best dessert and the residents were the judges. It was a great time had by all! In March we cele-

brated National Social Work Month and St. Patrick’s Day. We honored our Social Worker with a taco bar, of which she

truly loved as it is her favorite! St. Patrick’s Day was very festive with green wine! The residents don’t care for beer too

Page 6: 2018 Summer Issue - Georgia Health Care Association Summer Progress Notes.pdf · want to thank center administrators and operators for their support in allowing their activity director

much. As you can tell by the picture we were having ourselves a ball! Easter was next Chaplin Robbye Jarrell preached a

beautiful Easter sermon. We created Easter paintings that served a dual purpose of an art activity and decorations for the

resident’s rooms. We had a wonderful spring tea which always brings everyone out of their rooms! Beautiful piano music

by Ms. Beth Michaels accompanied with scrumptious pastries and a fruity iced tea made for a great social time. Easter

was filled with arts & crafts, and candy. Cinco De Mayo consisted of Margaritas a wonderful cheese dip! Umm tasty!

The Annual Mother’s Day tea was awesome as usual. With as great tea blend with tasty treats and soothing piano music.

Mother’s Day is the kick off for National Nurse Week! Did you honor your Nurses? The Nurses enjoyed a week of activities

which included an ice cream social and a gift bag filled with goodies! We also had the opportunity to start a great new exer-

cise activity for us called rhythm sticks. Our fitness manager, Leigh Brown, is awesome! Great music paired with rhythmic

movement makes for a great time. Fun and fitness rolled into one! We capped the mid-year festivities with an honor for

our fathers. As an art & crafts projects the residents handmade Father’s Day cards for the men special day. Top that off

with a decorated mason jar filled with an assortment of kisses, Hershey’s that is. We at Lenbrook hope your activity pro-

gramming has been filled with fun meaningful activities that you all enjoy!

Until next time!

Activities at Florence Hand Home

Sandra Ross, Wellstar Florence Hand Home, GSNHAD State Secretary

Wow! It's already summer. Time is flying by. We have been celebrating all of the

holidays from Mardi Gras with New Orleans style music, lots of beads and plenty

of King Cake, to Valen-

tine's Day with love

songs, crowning a king

and queen of hearts, to a

St. Patrick's Day Celebra-

tion with Irish Music,

dancing and treats, to

celebrating Easter with coloring

eggs, an Easter concert, Easter ser-

vice, and a visit from the Easter

Bunny with photos and candy. We

honored our mothers on Mother's

Day with music, photos and refreshments. We celebrated National Skilled Nursing Care

Week with scrap booking memories, remembering gospel favorites, the 50's, 60's and 70's

with lots of music and dancing. Now that the weather has warmed up, we have planted our

garden, gone fishing, gone on picnics, gone to the movies and toured the Great Wolf Lodge.

We have enjoyed frying up and eating the fish that we caught on our fishing trip, making

homemade strawberry ice cream with the strawberries from our garden and frying up and

eating green tomatoes from our garden. Our residents have also been enjoying painting

simple beach scenes and flowers this summer. We are having fun times here at Florence

Hand Home. Stay cool this summer!

Summertime in the Southeast Council

Nicole Moore, Gracemore Nursing & Rehabilitation , Southeast Council Member

With summer just weeks away, our residents have enjoyed having Home Depot and their employees come out to the facili-

ty and bring supplies to make sailboats with our residents. This was a huge hit with our male residents. When I called

Home Depot to ask about donating the supplies, they offered not only the supplies, but to have their staff come out to vol-

unteer their time and talents to make this event successful. This past quarter I added a magic show to our already busy

calendar and it was well received by staff and residents. We also had the police and fire department come out for a “Show

& Tell” and brought their vehicles for the residents to see. We also are trying our hand at gardening with our first resident

garden. We have it in the back of the facility. The residents enjoy watering it, discussing what they planted, and just

watching it grow. Enjoy your summer fellow activity directors.

Brenda Martin, Magnolia Manor of St. Simmons, Southeast Council Member

Happy summer to all of you from the beautiful beaches of St. Simmons. What a year! Can you believe it is already

June? We are busy at our 125 bed facility with summer crafts and painting with our residents. They absolutely love

it. They could sit and paint for hours. I have come to learn that many of my residents are so creative and talented. I am

just amazed at the talent in my facility. One of the things I have learned is to keep extra crafts of the ones we have done in

groups for my in-room residents. When the word gets out on the floor of what we have done, those in-room residents want

to do the same crafts. We get so many of our residents involved in the process. From cutting strips of ribbon, the paper,

prepping the paint to stocking my in-room cart, the residents are so eager to help me. They often say, “Hey, remember I

was working on this craft yesterday” and their face just lights up. All in all, I am happy in my chosen field and love my resi-

dents and can’t wait to see everyone at our convention in Savannah this fall.

Jackie Ramsdale, Twin Oaks Convalescent, Southeast Council Vice President

During the month of April, our very own Ms. Twin Oaks traveled to Stone Mountain to participate in the Ms. Georgia

Healthcare Pageant after winning at the local pageant level. A great time was had by all and the ladies were just beauti-

ful. Our resident council, hosted a 3 night revival at the facility that was very well attended by the residents, families, and

staff. Great music, the word of God and fellowship was had by all. During National Skilled Nursing Week, we celebrated

with various theme days such as Pioneer Day, Sports Day, Military Day, and Family Reunion Day. We also celebrated

Mother’s Day and our resident council hosted a luncheon during Nurses’ Week. For Father’s Day this year we are having

a Father’s Day cookout hosted by one of our local churches. I think the most exciting news to share is that we are plan-

ning a “Farm to Table” menu from our very own dietary department. Our resident are so very excited. With school being

out, our halls are filled with countless students loving and visiting with our residents. So from, Jackie and

Shirley….Happy Father’s Day and Happy Summer to all of us that continue to dedicate our lives to helping, serving, and

loving our residents.

Kristen Crawford, Oxley Park Health & Rehabilitation Center, Southeast Council Member

Where do I begin to share with you about our activity program? At Oxley Park, we are very hands on. Our residents love

food and activities. During National Skilled Nursing Week, we had food served every day of the week. The resident’s fa-

vorite was apple pie and ice cream. We also toured Italy with a PowerPoint presentation and did several arts &

Page 8: 2018 Summer Issue - Georgia Health Care Association Summer Progress Notes.pdf · want to thank center administrators and operators for their support in allowing their activity director

crafts. One of our new arts & crafts this summer will be jewelry making and our first wheelchair race. Since, I have started

working with my awesome nursing home, I notice that my residents are so eager to try their hand at all the crafts groups

we have. We could not do all the many things we do each week without the love and support of our loving volunteers and

staff. Love up on your volunteers. They are truly the heartbeat of your nursing home.

Making Memories in McDonough

Donna Martin-Estes (Interim AD), Westbury Administrative Services, GSNHAD Past President

It’s been a really busy time at Westbury Health & Rehabilitation in McDonough. It’s hard to believe half of the year is gone

already. Lots of exciting things have been going on in McDonough. It seems winter left overnight and brought in this heat

and humidity.

In the Spring, we had a beautiful pageant at Westbury, “Dreams Do Come True” was the theme. The ladies had a wonder-

ful time and our queen went on to compete in the state pageant at Stone Mountain. She enjoyed the opportunity to go and

was proud to represent the facility.

The Easter bunny came out to Westbury and assisted the staff’s children and others to find the 1000 eggs that were hid-

den on the grounds. Everyone had plenty of sweet treats to enjoy!

We also had a Spring Fling, the residents enjoyed playing all kinds of games and a wheelchair cupcake walk during the

morning. In the afternoon staff and residents put on a lip syncing show for everyone. We had a fabulous time and every-

one did a great job with their acts!

We have no idea where May went, National Skilled Nursing Care week was a blast! We kicked off the week with the Mayor

of McDonough and had a celebration in the front parking lot. We traveled through the decades, each day representing a

different era. It was a blast from the past for sure! We had a speak easy with some moonshine and a little bit of bingo on

the first day. On Tuesday, Elvis was in the house and got us all shook up. Also we learned the Hand Jive, Twist & the Wa-

tusi in the morning. The Volkswagen van picked up about 40/50 hippies in a parade and later we had a groovy smoothies

on Wednesday. We had a radical Thursday with an 80’s-90’s day. The fashion show was a hit with dances from this era,

later on in the day was a 90’s party. Friday was the millennium and beyond, with minute to win it games and a bowling

competition. It was a busy week but we had a blast!

For Senior Health & Fitness day we created a fairytale in the building. We had fairytale activities throughout the day. Snow

White was able to attend and assist with the events of the day. Each hall was decorated with different fairytales. We had

an Alice in the Wonderland Mad Hatters Tea Party. A fairytale feast was created for the lunch menu. All the residents had

crowns on and the therapy department planned it all.

It been a very memorable time for the past six months and we are looking forward to next. We will not let this heat get us

down, we plenty of hydrating, water filled days planned with lots of summer activities, Fall will be here before we know it!

It’s a Sizzling Summer in Savannah

Angela Smith, Signature Healthcare of Savannah, Southeast Council Member

It’s a Sizzling Summer in Savannah!

Cooling off is a breeze with sweet treats like frozen mocktails, homemade ice cream, soda pop floats and visits from our

Page 9: 2018 Summer Issue - Georgia Health Care Association Summer Progress Notes.pdf · want to thank center administrators and operators for their support in allowing their activity director

favorite local Ice Cream Truck,! And we can’t wait to celebrate on the Fourth of July with a Hot Dog Cookout, Watermelon

and the Classic R&B Soul Sounds of The Band of Brothers live in concert.

Since ringing in the New Year 2018, Signature Healthcare of Savannah has embraced the Spirit of Recognition and Cele-

bration for all those who serve here and call Signature their home.

In February we showed the LOVE crowning Signature’s King & Queen, followed by Love Song Karaoke. Residents, guests

and stakeholders belted out their favorite hits of love songs from decades past.

As most may know, Savannah is known for going all out with St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations! From homemade Shamrock

Shakes and “Pinch Proof” shirt pin crafts to Lucky Lotto Bingo, we truly “did it up” before the party day even began!

We honored our most beloved volunteer, a high school student from the Savannah Chatham County School District in

April as part of Volunteer Appreciation Month. Ms. Janice received Signature’s Volunteer of the Year Award along with

lots of extra goodies. Our Student Volunteer program has been quite a success. Signature Stakeholders and the Quality of

Life Department mentor and teach core work ethics while engaging our residents with dedicated, hardworking and genu-

inely compassionate volunteers…. A Total “Win-Win” for All!

May was an exceptionally busy month with Nat’l Day of Prayer, Cinco de Mayo, Nat’l Nurses Week, Mother’s Day,

NSNCW (or forever known to most of us as NNHW- LOL!) and Memorial Day. It was a challenge to go from one major

event to the next, but with all the teamwork and our awesome resident’s help in the party planning, decorating and making

appreciation crafts for gifts- We Did It! It was tremendously rewarding connecting within our community while standing to-

gether in prayer, honoring our mothers, nurses and those that lost their lives serving our country. Our Pep Rally Kick-Off,

to Celebrate Life’s Stories during NSNCW was fantastic!. We introduced our facility bulldog mascot with a facility wide,

week long voting. Everyone got to drop their name ideas in the ballot box. At the finale, it was announced that “Siggy” is

our newest member of the Signature Team! We look forward to him popping in and out at our holiday and activity events

throughout the rest of the year!

Exciting Adventures at Twin Fountains Home Wellstar

Andria Powell, Twin Fountains Home Wellstar, West Central Council Vice President

Hello Everyone, In January, we had an Elvis movie and had his favorite Sandwich. We made Grilled Peanut Butter and

Banana Sandwiches. Our residents enjoyed Chasing the blues away party with blue snow man punch and entertainment

by Leonard Blount. His music puts a smile on our resident’s faces. Right after the party we came down with the flu at our

facility. We were on lock down r/t the flu and all activities were cancelled for 3 weeks. Then we still had a ban on children

18 and younger not able to come into the facility however we were able to proceed with activities finally. Whoo! that was

hard but we got through it.

In February, we had our valentine’s party and crowned our King & Queen. We had a Hobby Lobby outing and did the

“Facebook Craze”. We did a Hobby Lobby Photo Shoot. Our residents had so much fun and we laughed so hard we were

crying. Our Corporation, WellStar West Georgia Medical Center had it’s 11th Heart Truth for Women Luncheon on Tues-

day, Feb. 20. Our resident “Jennie Walker” was a model for the Giant poster they displayed for the theme: “Super Ag-

er”. Jennie Walker is also one of our canvas group artist here at Twin Fountains Home Wellstar. A “Super-ager” is a term

composed by neurologist Marsel Mesulam. It is a person whose memory and attention isn’t quite above average for his or

her age, but actually parallel with healthy, active 25-year-olds.

In March we made Irish potato candy of course it was very sweet. On the day before St.Patrick’s Day we had a Lucky Pot

of Gold Hunt. The excitement of residents hunting everywhere for the pots of gold was so fun. Then St. Patrick’s Day Party

and Photo Booth. Our Party included some confetti cannons which our residents loved. Of course Easter came early this

year. We ended March with Making Easter Candy suckers and we decorated Easter Eggs with whipped cream and food

coloring the result was a pastel marble effect. We had a Good Friday service with Pastor McFarland bringing forth the

message and communion. Then we ended March with an Easter Egg Hunt with hiding 800 eggs all over the facility. We

had two winners Residents from the North side of our facility and the South side of our facility.

In May we had National Skilled Nursing Care Week. We had the third annual Mother’s Day Tea and Fashion Show and all

the Fashions were supplied by T.J.Maxx. We celebrated resident life stories highlighting residents and their milestones,

accomplishments and acknowledgements in their lives. We celebrated weddings of their past where we had their wedding

pictures and “An affair To Remember” came to our facility and modeled a couple of bridal gowns, we also had a wedding

cake and mock champagne punch to share with everyone. The resident enjoyed getting an ice cream from the ice cream

man. Home Depot supplied our gardens with soil and all the plants on community day. The residents were treated to Line

dancers, Troup Co. Show choir students and drum band. Then on the last day we all watched as the staff competed in the

blind obstacle wheel chair race. We laughed so hard and if Laughter is good for the soul then our soul prospered that day!

Went on a fishing trip and our resident thoroughly enjoyed themselves catching some big fish and that’s tall tale either.

In June we visited the local movie theater and Valley bowling alley. We

went on an outing to the Great Wolf Lodge. Our residents were able to

go in the water park and look around and took a tour of the rest of their

facility. One of our residents said if she had a bathing suit she would be

right under the bucket water drop. She said it looked like so much fun.

All of our residents were presented with wolf ears to wear and when they

got back to the facility they wore their wolf ears all day just daring some-

one to ask them about where they went.

Exciting Adventures to continue at Twin Fountains Home Wellstar.

The Glen at Lake Oconee Village John Moon, The Glen at Lake Oconee Village, East Central Council Secretary The Glen has had a very eventful first half of the year! With more and more residents moving in, we are able to generate activities that will suit the new residents and those who have lived with us since opening in May of 2017. This year, we have had many successful events to celebrate holidays, such

as Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, etc.

For Mardi Gras, the Life Enrichment staff made homemade beignets and hosted a party with a pho-

to booth.

For the Easter season, we hosted our smallest visi-tors yet- baby chicks and ducks. The residents enjoyed holding the baby animals and

observing their cuteness.

We held the first annual Glen Olympics which incorporated our residents playing minute to win it games for medals and prizes. Residents enjoyed the games, prizes, and especially the com-petition. We began the themed week with an opening ceremony consisting of our management team running the torch (construction paper and tissue paper) throughout our Lobby to the

Olympics theme song. Some of the highest attended games were discus toss (using paper plates as discs), bowling, and

basketball (using ping pong balls and cups).

We are also continuing our Embrace the World program, a program that focuses on one country or region per month. This program incorporates activities and dining departments working together for the themed events. Recently, we have

been focusing on different regions of the United States.

Celebrating Our Nurses & Enjoying the Activities at

Bolingreen

Lolieta Nunnally, Bolingreen Health & Rehabilitation Center, Middle

Georgia Council Secretary

Hello everyone! This is Lolieta Nunnally, Activities Director for

Bolingreen and I wanted to let everyone know how our facility celebrated

our nurses. We posted several themes for them to dress up for including

Pajama Day, Tacky Day and Hawaiian Day, which seemed to be their

favorite. Some of our residents joined in and dressed up too. They had a

dinner that was catered by Olive Garden.

It’s been pretty busy here at Bolingreen, but it has also been a blast. A

Motorcycle Club called the Black Sabbath came to cook out in our parking

lot for our elderly resident’s and in honor of Mother’s Day. We

also celebrated Cinco De Mayo with our residents. They had

tacos from Taco Bell, wore sombreros and listened to Spanish

music.
