Leadership leaves clues. What this means is that there is always clear evidence of exceptional leadership…or the lack of it…in any organization or department. We never have to guess about whether we are leading or managing effectively, because our results are right in front of us every day. These results can show up in a lot of different ways. They will show up in the outcomes, they will show up in your retention of talent, and they will show up in your culture.

Growth Through Telehealth

Nick Hernandez, MBA, FACHE

Telehealth has continually proven to increase access to care, reduce costs, improve outcomes, overcome geographic barriers and reduce hospital admissions and readmissions. Telehealth is an effective delivery system for providing quality care and produces better utilization of limited healthcare resources. Additionally, the use of telehealth has revealed high patient satisfaction and demonstrated that patients prefer telehealth over travel or wait time. U.S. consumers are beginning to use wearable devices to track and collect their person health data. Over time, we will see more of a willingness to share that data with healthcare providers and intermediaries. Telehealth has been in limited use for decades but is becoming more of a reality due to changing patient demographics and the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Telehealth is not a separate medical specialty, but rather a conduit by which care is provided. This presentation will allow attendees to understand: The opportunities of telehealth The trends in telehealth The barriers providers face when deciding to adopt telehealth Nick Hernandez, MBA, FACHE, is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. Nick holds MBA degrees in both Operations Management and Information Technology & E-Business Management from Wake Forest University. He is Board Certified in Healthcare Management and has been named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Nick is a frequent guest lecturer and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Radiation Oncology Administrators (SROA). Nick is also a frequent contributor to many healthcare publications including Dermatologist Magazine, Doctor's Life Magazine, Medical Tourism Magazine, and Physician Solutions Magazine.

Provider Compensation Risks and Considerations

Patrick Sulzberger, CPA, CHC Health care organizations are re-evaluating how to design provider compensation arrangements in a value-based environment. We will outline some factors to consider from a compliance perspective based upon recent Regulatory enforcement activity, and share ideas regarding elements to consider that align providers with the desired organizational outcomes. Including content to address the RVU issues and potential risks associated with a volume-only based model.

Patrick has over 25 years of experience in the health care industry working as a performance improvement consultant. An accountant by background, he spent the initial ten years of his career working for a national public accounting firm, with a focus in health care reimbursement, labor productivity benchmarking and revenue cycle operations. Patrick worked with hospitals, rural health clinics, physician clinics, federally qualified health centers and long-term care facilities during his public accounting career.
