Do you have any advice to current students to assist with their job search?

3 Look at job postings to see what skills employers are looking for. Start early and cast a widenet by applying everywhere if you can.

7 Just because you don't have all the required skills listed on a particular job posting, applyanyways! You may be more qualified for the job than you give yourself credit for!

8 Be willing to move to another city/country.11 I think it is very important to gain experience during the master's program. Whether it is a

practicum, volunteer work, or a student job within the field -- having that experience will giveyou an edge over your peers and a head start for your career.

12 You'll never get as many opportunities as during your Master's program. Get involved asmuch you can. Networking is key.

13 Do the practicum15 Don't limit yourself to your specialty. If you are in archives, for example, don't immediately

discount librarian jobs - you may find yourself loving and learning valuable things from thesepositions.In addition, apply for things even if you don't think you are qualified - you ARE qualified!

18 You often need to be willing to move. Get a job as a student.

8 The question "Where are you employed?" was not properly implemented, and I wasn't surewhether the question referred to a location or the organization I work for. I put location sincethe next question asked about the organization.

15 I would recommend a redesign of the practicum. It was useful, but there needs to be moresite opportunities provided and they need to be considered by what the students are focusedon. My cohort had a large number of archive students and there was not a lot of archive sites. In addition, I found the professors who were the most useful towards learning about the fieldwere those who had practical experience as librarians, archivists, etc. because they actuallyknew the reality. They could draw on literal examples to help us learn. Those who wereresearchers were useful, sure, but the reality is that research is only going to be a part of thejob we get. We need more librarians, archivists, knowledge managers, etc. who are actuallyin the field to teach us the skills we will need.

18 Honestly very few of the courses gave me the skills that have proven useful in my jobs thusfar, but it got me the degree that is the required qualification for the job.
