Message from the 2018 Annual Conference Program Chair 

Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the 2018 Annual Conference Committee, it is my pleasure to welcome you tothe 5th Annual Conference of Energeyes, being held at the Four Seasons Hotel, St. LouisMO. The Energeyes National Annual Conference is one of the top conferences in thecountry focused specifically on the needs of optometrists practicing in a corporate setting. This year’s program will feature two education tracks with sessions on Clinical Practiceand Business Practice Management. This meeting promises to be our best yet, with 20+ hours of quality CE from top speakersincluding Dr. James Thimons and Dr. Leo Semes. You also will not want to miss thechance to meet with 20+ industry professionals who understand the unique needs of ourpractices. In addition, this is one of the best opportunities to meet and network with fellowcolleagues. This will be my first Energeyes conference and I am looking forward to meeting many ofyou in person. This year the Board and Conference committee have been working hard on a puttingtogether a special program that you won’t want to miss. 2018 Featured Speakers 

Leo Semes, OD, FAAO Leo P. Semes, OD, earned his OD from PCO and completed residency at The EyeInstitute of PCO. He is former Professor of Optometry at UAB. Dr. Semes has authored or over 250 articles, book chapters and posters. He is principalauthor of the AOA’s Clinical Practice Guideline, “Care of the Patient with Ocular SurfaceDisorders.” He is a fellow of the AAO, as well as an active member of the AOA. Dr.Semes is a founding member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and a founding fellowof the Optometric Retina Society. In 2015, he was recognized as one of the 50 “mostinfluential individuals in eye care” by Optometric Management magazine and received theEducator of the Year award (2015) from the Alabama Optometric Association. Recentlyhe was recognized with the Dean’s Distinguished Service award (2016).

James Thimons, O.D, FAAO Dr. Thimons is a 1978 graduate of Ohio State University College of Optometry. He completed hishospital residency at the Chillicothe, VA Medical Center in 1979 and then served as Chief,Optometry Service until 1985. He then accepted the position of Center Director at Omni EyeServices, Fairfax, Virginia and served in that role until 1989 when he became Chairman,Department of Clinical Sciences at the State University of New York. While at SUNY he developed The Glaucoma Institute, a clinical research center, and served as itsfirst Director. In 1998, he accepted the position of Executive Director of TLC and served in thatrole until 2002 when he co- founded Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut. A multidisciplinaryreferral practice providing secondary and tertiary level care! Dr. Thimons has received numerousawards for his service to the profession and has over 200 hundred publications in Glaucoma, DryEye, Cornea and External Disease As well as Refractive Surgery and New Technologies. He is anationally and internationally acclaimed Speaker and Educator and an acknowledged leader inophthalmic clinical education. He serves in professorial appointments at several universities in theUS and has been a clinical investigator in over 20 NIH, NEI and Post Release Clinical Trials. In 1999 he was awarded Optometry’s Top Educator and was selected as one of the Top TenClinician’s of the decade. In 2002 he founded the National Glaucoma Society, a NFP withExecutive offices in Andover, Massachusetts, that provides educational and clinical developmentservices to primary care clinicians worldwide in the area of glaucoma management. In 2005 hewas inducted into the Optometry Hall of Fame and has recently served as President, ConnecticutAssociation of Optometrists. Dr. Thimons was selected as the Top Eye Doctor in Fairfield Countyin 2013.

Thomas J. Landgraf, OD, FAAO Dr. Landgraf is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at University ofMissouri St. Louis (UMSL) College of Optometry where he teachesImmunology and the Ocular Disease Courses; he additionally sees patientsthere in both the Eye Health Management and Primary Care Clinics. He has presented numerous Continuing Education Lectures regarding OcularDisease Conditions at both national and local meetings. He has receivednumerous teaching awards, including Faculty of the Year at UMSL College ofOptometry for 2018. He previously served as Chief of Advanced Care OcularDisease Service and was a Full Professor at Southern College of Optometry.

2018 Featured Speakers

Melonie Clemmons, OD Melonie Clemmons, OD, is a graduate of the Southern College of Optometryand currently practices in Ellijay and Blue Ridge, Georgia. She has beenassociated with Walmart as Lease Holder for over 15 years and has previouslyserved on the Walmart Doctors Panel at Home Office. She has presented as aKey Note Speaker for Alcon, Vistakon and Walmart. She now serves as aTrustee for the Georgia Optometric Association and Chairs its CorporateCommittee. She is passionate about preventative eye care and teaching othersthe importance of nutrition and being a “patient-centered” medical care provider. She currently resides in Woodstock, Georgia with her husband, Rob, anddaughter, Ana-Verie.

Travis Johnson, OD, FAAO Travis M. Johnson is a 1999 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry.His extern rotations focused on medical based vision care with emphasis on co-management of cataract surgery and laser refractive surgery. He also did arotation involving specialty contact lens fitting, corneal disease, and rehabilitativeoptometry. Dr. Johnson enjoys working with patients of all ages. Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and one of only afew optometrist that are Board Certified. Dr. Johnson has published severalarticles in optometry journals and lectures around the country. Dr. Johnson hasalso trained with corneal specialist , and is certified to perform treatment of oculardisease and eye lid disease procedures involving injections and woundmanagement.
