In 2019, the Arts Council celebrates our 30th anniversary since forming as Big Sky’s first cultural nonprofit organization way back in 1989. Much has changed in Big Sky since then, but our commitment to keeping the Arts a focal point of our community has not. In fact, this passion is stronger than ever. Last year was evidence that support for the Arts remains strong, and is central to Big Sky’s growth and development as a thriving, year-round place to live, work and play.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors, sponsors, board members, volunteers, sponsors and artists. We’re grateful for these community partnerships and look forward to keeping up the momentum in 2019. Please join us as we celebrate our 30-year history by looking forward to what the next chapter will bring. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Brian HurlbutExecutive Director, Arts Council of Big Sky

Artist Deborah Butterfield dedicates Winter on October 5, 2018, in the Big Sky Town Center. Butterfield created the piece from driftwood found along the Gallatin, Madison and Yellowstone rivers, then cast the finished wood sculpture in bronze at the Walla Walla Foundry in Washington. The resulting creation is the first outdoor Butterfield piece in Montana that can be viewed by the public. This monumental achievement was supported by a two-year capital campaign that included donations from individuals, local businesses, community foundations and the Arts Council’s first-ever grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Local children give Winter an up close and personal look at the sculpture unveiling. More than 100 people turned out to see the horse in public for the first time.
