Myron | Thanks to your generous support of Coburn Place, 2018 has been a huge year of growth for Myron. He got to let his outgoing and sparkling personality shine during the 2018 Lemonade Sale. He was interviewed by the news, and made a video with RTV6’s Rafael Sanchez, “teaching” Rafael how to make lemonade.

As with many kids who have witnessed violence and experienced homelessness, when Myron arrived at Coburn Place he was exhibit ing signs of trauma. Unsure of himself and unsure if people would l ike him as his genuine self, Myron always felt he had to be “on.” He used charisma and humor to protect himself. After a year of programming, advocacy, individual therapy, safe housing, and support, Myron felt safer. At the end of 2018, when asked what he thought of Coburn Place, Myron said simply, “I love it. It’s my home.”

Our Children’s Services Advocate, Teia, learned that Myron wants to be an astronaut. When she shared his big dream with you, our amazing supporters, the next day, we received passes for Myron and his family to go to the Holcomb Observatory and see the stars through a telescope for the first t ime.

Bri | Imagine being 19 with a toddler and a baby on the way. Then picture escaping not one but two abusive partners. This was reality for Brianna.

In 2015, Brianna met her Prince Charming. He moved in with her and her daughter, bought them flowers every week, and told Bri she could stop working and stay home with her daughter—he would support them. But what he really wanted was to control them, to not let them out of sight. Before long, he even controlled her car and would not let her leave the house for

simple things l ike grocery shopping. By the time Bri became pregnant with his child, she knew she no longer wanted to be with this man. When he beat her, she left and spent the rest of her pregnancy in a domestic violence shelter. During that t ime she began to see another man, but as soon as her son was born, this man, too, began to show signs of control and aggression.

Fortunately, Bri got a call from Coburn Place that her name had come up on the waitl ist for an apartment. She and her two children moved in and finally had the security to heal. Bri went back to school and wil l graduate from Ivy Tech in May 2019. Now, Bri and the kids have their own permanent home and are self-suff icient survivors.
