Future Leaders: “Bridging the Gap” Communication Between Generations in the WorkforcePresenter: Kathy Espinoza, AVP Keenan & Associates
With Generation Z just graduating from high school, we now have FIVE generations inthe workforce. Each generation brings strengths and deals with diversity differently, which can create conflict. This session will look at the strengths that each generation
brings to the workplace, discuss generational clash points and best practices to uniteyour workforce. Because the Millennial generation is fast becoming the largest group inthe workforce, this session will also focus on learning how to work effectively with them.Topics covered will be Millennial ‘speak’ and how understanding the core values of this‘special’ group can bring all generations together in the workforce.
Kathy Espinoza is a Board Certified Professional Ergonomist, with an MBA and a Master’s Degree in Work Science/Physiology. She has worked with Keenan & Associates for over 15 years. Kathy has taught Ergonomics in the Workplace at UC, Riverside for 10 years and was the 2010 recipient of the UCR Instructor Excellence Award. Kathy has presented at professional conferences on the topics of stress reduction, ergonomics, the graying of the American workforce, employee engagement, the culture of wellness, making the perfect presentation, and multi-generations.

The Future of Performance Evaluations and FeedbackPresenter: Dr. Meriem Hodge Doucette, Assistant Professor CSUF
Dr. Meriem Hodge is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration in the Division of Politics, Administration, and Justice at California State University, Fullerton. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy (U.G.A., 2015), an M.P.A. (U.G.A., 2011), and a B.A. in Political Science (Miami University, 2008). Her research interests include performance feedback, the role of discount rates and time preferences in decision making, public and private sector comparisons, and educational policy. Her teaching areas include public administration and policy, organizational theory and behavior, and organizational change and development.
Feedback has long been considered critical for employees and organizations to besuccessful, yet feedback frequently doesn't have its intended effect. Providing effectivefeedback is only going to become more challenging in the future as we move from jobswith clearly defined tasks (algorithmic tasks) to jobs without clearly defined tasks(heuristic tasks). Daniel Pink estimates that work requiring "heuristic tasks" where someonehas to experiment with possibilities and devise a novel solution accounts for 70 percent ofjob growth. So what can human resource professionals do to help their organizations bemore successful given the changing nature of work? This session will broadly discuss whathelps create more productive feedback and more specifically the important role thatyou can play as a "feedback coach" for employees with and without supervisoryresponsibilities.

Restaurateur Mario Batali, federal judge Alex Kozinski, and too many others show us that sexual harassment extends far beyond the entertainment industry, to all sectors, including the public sector. Indeed, at some public agencies, sexual harassment claims have doubled over the past year. We will explore new research, new ideas, and new methods to prevent sexual harassment at public agencies, to encourage victims and bystanders to report it, and to handle claims successfully.
