Oil Temperature GaugeIndicates the temperature of the engineoil.If it enters the red section, the engine isoverheating. Reduce engine speed as soonas safely possible to allow the engine tocool. If the engine continues to be drivenat high engine speeds with the needle inthe red section, the engine speed reducesautomatically to prevent engine damage.

Turbocharger Boost GaugeIndicates the added intake pressureprovided by the turbocharger.

Oil Pressure GaugeIndicates engine oil pressure.During normal driving, the indicated oilpressure varies with engine speed, thepressure rising as engine speed rises anddropping as engine speed drops.

If the engine oil pressure drops below thenormal range, the oil pressure gaugepointer drops into the red section of thegauge scale and the engine oil pressurewarning lamp in the main instrumentcluster illuminates. Stop the vehicle assoon as safely possible and switch off theengine immediately. Check the oil level andadd oil if needed.

Using the ClutchNote: During each shift, you must fully pressthe clutch pedal to the floor and fullyrelease the accelerator. Failure to followthis may cause increased shift efforts,prematurely wear transmissioncomponents, or cause gear clash or damageto the transmission. Make sure you properlyposition the floor mat so it does not interferewith the full extension of the clutch pedal.Note: If you attempt to shift when the drivewheels are spinning with a loss of traction,it is possible to cause damage to thetransmission. Do not attempt to shift whenthe drive wheels do not have traction.Note: Do not drive with your foot restingon the clutch pedal or use the clutch pedalto hold your vehicle at a standstill whilewaiting on a hill. These actions will reducethe life of the clutch.Due to the high performance of thepowertrain, a certain amount of noise fromthe transmission is normal.Manual transmission vehicles have astarter interlock that prevents cranking theengine unless you fully press the clutchpedal.To start the vehicle:1. Make sure the parking brake is fully set.

2. Press the clutch pedal to the floor, thenput the transmission in neutral (N).

3. Start the engine, then press the brakepedal and release the parking brake.

4. Move the transmission to position 1 ,then slowly release the clutch pedalwhile slowly pressing on theaccelerator.

5. To reverse, lift up on the reverselockout ring found under the shift knoband move the transmission fully to theleft and forward.

Operating at High SpeedsYour ST vehicle is capable of high speedsand has tires rated for the vehicle’smaximum speed. Remember to drivesafely, obey all traffic laws and onlyoperate your ST vehicle at high speeds atlocations equipped and designed to do sosafely.

Enhanced Torque VectoringControlEnhanced torque vectoring control iscomprised of two elements:• Torque vectoring control, which applies

brake torque on the inner wheel in acurve for better traction and lessundersteer.

• Cornering understeer control whichcontrols the yaw response of yourvehicle when you accelerate on highand low friction surfaces.

Unlike electronic stability control,enhanced torque vectoring control doesnot slow the vehicle. It helps controlexcessive wheel slip and gives the vehiclecornering agility. The system onlyincreases performance. Because of this,the system does not disable enhancedtorque vectoring control when theAdvanceTrac system is off.

ENGINE OVERSPEED

WARNINGDo not operate the engine at highengine speeds while the vehicle isstationary. This can cause damage

not covered by the vehicle Warranty andcan result in serious injury.

Your vehicle has an engine speed limiterthat helps increase engine performance.A narrow red line on the tachometer faceindicates the standard maximum enginespeed. The red line thickens where theengine speed enters the overspeed limiter.The system allows a maximum of threeseconds of engine overspeed. After this,the engine speed limiter reduces enginespeed and holds it at a predeterminedlimit. Once the engine speed drops belowthe predetermined limit, the system resetsand permits a further three seconds ofengine overspeed.Note: Do not run the engine at high enginespeeds until it reaches the normal operatingtemperature.

ENGINE OVERBOOSTYour vehicle has an engine overboostfeature to allow additional torque delivery.The overboost feature controls a varietyof engine parameters to deliver additionaltorque. This feature widens the enginespeed range of the peak torque curve,giving maximum performance whilepassing another vehicle or launching froma standing start.

The system allows a maximum of 20seconds of engine overboost. After thisthe system reduces turbo charger boostand maximizes it at a predetermined limit.Once the turbo charger boost drops belowthe predetermined limit the system resetsand a further 20 seconds of engineoverboost is permitted.Note: You do not need to take any actionas the system allows overboost when youdemand it.

This program isseparate from the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.The service is available:• 24 hours a day, seven days a week.• For the coverage period listed on the

Roadside Assistance Card included inyour Owner's Manual portfolio.

Roadside Assistance covers:• A flat tire change with a good spare

(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit).

• Battery jump start.• Lock-out assistance (key replacement

cost is the customer's responsibility).• Fuel delivery — independent service

contractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law, shall deliver upto 2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L)of diesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside Assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.

• Winch out — available within 100 ft(30 m) of a paved or countymaintained road, no recoveries.

• Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law, shall tow Fordeligible vehicles to an authorized dealerwithin 35 mi (56 km) of thedisablement location or to the nearestauthorized dealer. If a memberrequests a tow to an authorized dealerthat is more than 35 mi (56 km) fromthe disablement location, the membershall be responsible for any mileagecosts in excess of 35 mi (56 km).

• Roadside Assistance includes up to$200 for a towed trailer if the disabledeligible vehicle requires service at thenearest authorized dealer. If the towingvehicle is operational but the trailer isnot, then the trailer does not qualify forany roadside services.

WHEELSYour ST vehicle is equipped with uniquewheels matched to the tires. These wheelsare more susceptible to damage due totheir diameter, width and low profile tires.To avoid damage to your wheels:• Maintain proper tire pressure.• Exercise caution when using

automated, commercial car washes.Hand washing or using touchlesscommercial car washes withoutmechanical tracks is the best way toavoid potential damage.

• When installing wheels, always torquelug nuts to specification with a torquewrench.

• Inspect your wheels for damage on aregular basis. If a wheel is damaged,replace it immediately.

• If you encounter an abnormally harshimpact, inspect the outer diameter ofyour wheels, both inside and out, fordamage.

As standard, your ST vehicle is equippedwith low profile, high performance tiresthat are designed to optimize the drivingdynamics you expect in a ST vehicle. Thesetires are not optimized for off-road orwinter (snow or cold weather)performance, and the ride, noise and wearcharacteristics are different thannon-performance tires. Also, because oftheir lower profile, the tires are moresusceptible to damage due to potholesand rough roads. To make sure that yourtires perform as intended, it is importantthat you maintain your tires properly:

Note: Do not use tire chains on the originalwheels and tires of your vehicle. The use ofany type of tire chain on these tires maydamage your vehicle.• Do not overload your vehicle. Maximum

vehicle and axle weights are listed onthe tire information placard.

• Take extra caution when operating thevehicle near its maximum load,including assuring proper tire pressureand reducing speeds.

• Take extra caution when operating onrough roads to avoid impacts thatcould cause tire damage.

Wheels and Tires

• If you encounter an abnormally harshimpact, inspect your tires for damage.

• Inspect your tires for damage on aregular basis. If a tire is damaged,replace it immediately.

• Proper suspension alignment is criticalfor maximum performance andoptimal tire wear. If you notice uneventire wear, have your alignment checked.

• When replacing tires, the only way tomaintain original performance is to usethe original equipment tire. If a differentsummer tire is used, it should be thesame size, speed rating and load ratingas the originally equipped tire. Replacetires as a set of four. Never mix tirebrands or models.

Tire PressureNote: You may need to remove the sparewheel from the spare wheel well to checkthe tire pressure.• For tire pressures, see the placard

located on the B-pillar inside thedriver's door.

• Always maintain your tire pressuresaccording to the tire informationplacard on the driver's door jamb, usingan accurate gauge.

• Tire pressures are specified cold. Checkthem after the vehicle has been parkedfor at least three hours. Do not reducepressure of warm tires.

• Check your tire pressure often tomaintain it properly. Tire pressure candiminish over time and fluctuate withtemperature.

Optional All-Season TiresYour Focus ST may come equipped withan optional All-Season performance tire.This choice will provide the benefit of fourseason mobility without requiring theinstallation of winter tires. It is importantto realize that ultimate summerperformance will be reduced relative tothe standard equipment summer only tire.Additionally, ultimate winter traction andcontrol will be less than a dedicated wintertire would provide. If you drive during thewinter months in areas with heavy snowfalland/or hilly terrain, you may wish to installa dedicated winter tire if ultimate tractionand control are desired.

USING WINTER TIRESThe standard equipment tires on your STvehicle are designed for maximumperformance in dry and wet summerconditions. They are not designed forwinter use on ice or snow and you cannotuse them with snow chains. Ford does notrecommend using the original equipmenttires when temperatures drop toapproximately 41°F (5°C) or below(depending on tire wear and environmentalconditions) or in snow and ice conditions.You must use winter or all-season tires ifyou will be operating your vehicle in theseconditions.• Even with clear, dry driving conditions

do not operate your vehicle aboveposted speed limits or perform highspeed maneuvers with winter tires.

• Do not use tire chains on the originalwheels and tires of your vehicle. Theuse of any type of tire chain on thesetires may damage your vehicle.

The following table lists acceptable tiresizes for winter tires. Tire speed and loadratings should match those of the originallyequipped tires as closely as possible. If itis required to fit winter tires with a speed

rating less than the original equipment tires(to fit snow chains, for example), be awareof the maximum speed rating for the tireand never exceed.

Your ST vehicle is equipped with unique wheels matched to the tires. These wheels aremore susceptible to damage due to their diameter, width and low profile tires. To avoiddamage to your wheels:• Maintain proper tire pressure.• Exercise caution when using automated, commercial car washes. Hand washing or

using touchless commercial car washes without mechanical tracks is the best wayto avoid potential damage.

• When installing wheels, always torque lug nuts to specification with a torque wrench.• Inspect your wheels for damage on a regular basis. If a wheel is damaged, replace it

immediately.• If you encounter an abnormally harsh impact, inspect the outer diameter of your

wheels, both inside and out, for damage.

See the Wheels and Tires chapter of your owner's manual for instructions on changinga road wheel.Your ST vehicle is equipped with a full-size, dissimilar spare tire assembly. Although thespare is a traditional, full size tire (as opposed to a mini-spare), it is different in both sizeand handling characteristics from the standard Focus ST performance tire. If you needto install the spare tire, you must adhere to the following precautions:• Because of the different performance characteristics of the spare tire, avoid aggressive

steering, braking, acceleration or high speeds when you install the spare tire.• Never enable electronic stability control sport mode or fully disable electronic stability

control when you install the spare tire.• Replace the spare tire with the correct original equipment specified tire as soon as

possible.The table lists the specifications for the full size spare tire and wheel assembly. Tire speedand load ratings should match those of the originally equipped tires as closely as possible.

Thisinformation is covered in its entirety in thewarranty information.You can obtain warranty service for yourST vehicle or any ST vehicle at any Forddealer nationwide.Ford Global Performance does notrecommend modifying or racing ST, SVTor RS vehicles, as they are designed andbuilt to be driven as delivered from thefactory. The warranty informationdiscusses vehicle usage and theinstallation of aftermarket parts and theireffect on warranty coverage.In the event the vehicle is intended for trackuse, and the loss of warranty coverage isnot of concern, the following vehicledurability actions are required:• Perform multi-point inspection and the

maintenance outlined in the150,000 mi (240,000 km) normalmaintenance schedule of thescheduled maintenance before andafter track use. See the vehicle servicemanual for removal and installationprocedures.

• Replace with Genuine Ford andMotorcraft service parts as needed.

These actions may not necessarily protectyour vehicle from damage in competitionconditions. Subjecting your vehicle tocompetition conditions even with thisrecommended action may render repairsnon-reimbursable under the warranty.
