Public Relations – Respectfully submitted by Debbie Rouleau
It has been a great summer, and hopefully the nice weather lasts well into fall. Ron and I have been fortunate to have a wonderful trip to Ireland and Scotland this summer – long on our bucket list. We are glad to be back to our family safe and sound.
The Legion is hosting a new event this year, which we are quite excited about. On Saturday November 24 th
we are hosting a Christmas Dinner/Dance, which is ideal for small businesses who want to celebrate with their staff, but don’t have enough people to rent a hall etc. Leave the planning to us!! Call the office to book a table or two, for the reasonable price of $50.00 per person, which includes: ham, chicken picata, perogies, cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine, relish tray, dessert and even 2 bottles of win on each table. Dancing to the band SoundCheck will start at 8:30. Cocktails are at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. Please get the word out; we have posters that we can send to any small business, or even a group of family and friends who want to get together.
Tickets must be ordered and paid for by November 16th. Please help us make this a success!!
The Legion Band will be back practicing on Monday Aug 27th in the hall upstairs after a short break during the summer. We are still in the process of rebuilding and recruiting, but did manage to do Battle of the Atlantic, Korea Vets ceremony/parade, and the Goulais
8
River parade. We will be participating in the Battle of retain at the Sault airport on Sunday September 16th. Our numbers are small, but we welcome anyone who can play an instrument and is able to march with us. Please contact myself at: [email protected] to inquire about joining the band.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the meetings – it’s only by participating that we can obtain objectives!
Do you live in an apartment building? If your landlord allows posting information on a community bulletin board in your building, we would appreciate being able to put posters up regarding upcoming Legion events. We would be willing to e-mail you a poster, if you can post it for us. Please e-mail us at [email protected] if you can participate in this.
Membership– Respectfully submitted by Helen Stewart
Please remember, the Early Bird campaign starts September 4th. Betty has been calling our list and we have had an incredible outcome. It isn’t enough just to join – we need you to help with some of our endeavours.
If you are willing to give a few hours/week or per month that would be a tremendous burden off the shoulders of your Executive – come on in and offer your services.

Building - On-going. No major concerns at the moment. Currently, there are quotes being hunted for snow removal and also for the replacement of the rooftop heater, both are very costly, but necessary. I will be returning in time for the September General Membership meeting and may have more to report at that time.

EUROPEAN UNION RE-EVALUATES DEFENCE CAPABILITIES (excerpts from the Legion Magazine)
Canada has reaffirmed its support for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) while the

European Union weighs its limited options after the President of the United States (POTUS) launched double-barreled criticisms of both the 69 year old military alliance and the EU.In a recent column for the National Post, Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan reaffirmed previously announced plans to increase defence spending by 70 per cent over 10 years. He also touted intentions to shore up Canada’s NATO undertakings.‘Canada’s commitment to NATO is about much more than just dollars,’ Sajjan wrote, citing decisions to renew its support for Europe’s forward defence for another four years, boosts its Latvian presence by almost 20 per cent to 540 troops, and take command of a new NATO training mission in Iraq. The EU, meanwhile, is re-evaluating is reliance on the United States after the president took NATO’s recent summit in Brussels by storm, calling its members ‘delinquent’ in their defence spending and targeting German dependence on Russian natural gas, accusing it of being “totally controlled by” and “a captive of” Russia. He’s also called the EU a ‘foe’ of the U.S.

This is a subsidiary of J&B Rubbish who is now doing our waste removal at the Branch for significantly less money than the company we were using.

He asked. She replied, “you”.
