BUSINESS ELECTIVES

Elective units may be chosen from units available in the Bachelor of Commerce course to extend your major or to complete a minor(s), or from other Faculties across the University, if you have the required prerequisites. Please discuss with your Course Advisor before enrolling in units taught by other Faculties.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

All undergraduate Students enrolled in a Business Degree course at Australian Catholic University participate in Professional Experience. There are additional Professional Experience electives. These units have a Professional focus: students learn in the workplace, develop professionalism and business competencies within their disciplinary area. One of the many advantages for students undertaking the Professional Experience Program is gaining insight into professional career opportunities available within their chosen field.

STUDY MODES Attendance: Unit delivered primarily via face-to-face or video conference attendance, at an ACU campus or another location. Multi-mode: Unit delivered via a combination of online content and a compulsory attendance component (including examinations, practicums, residentials etc). Online: Unit delivered fully online (including assessments). CORE UNITS Requirements which are compulsory for course completion. WHAT IS A MAJOR or A MINOR?

Major A Major is a total of 80cp (credit points) from prescribed units in one discipline area, normally including at least 10cp at introductory level;, at least 40cp at 200 level and at least 20cp from 300 level units.

Minor

A Minor is a total of 40cp from prescribed units in one discipline or area, normally including at least 10cp at introductory level and at least 20cp at advance level.

PREREQUISITES A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all prerequisites prior to enrolling in a unit. Prerequisite units are shown in italic and parentheses. INCOMPATIBLE UNITS Units the content of which is such that credit can be allowed for only one of them. Students cannot receive credit for both units.

The Core Curriculum

Compulsory for all undergraduate courses All undergraduate students are required to complete the University Core Curriculum as part of their course. The Core Curriculum is comprised of three units and further information on its structure can be found on the Core Curriculum5 webpage. These units are often taught over differing week patterns to allow for student placements at various times during semester. Students should take special care to note the week pattern of tutorials when they allocate in tutorial direct to ensure that they are choosing the correct stream for their course.

Working with Children and Police Checks

Those students participating in the Professional Experience Program (PEP) must obtain background checks as required by Federal and State/Territory laws. Please refer to your Faculty’s Work Integrated Learning6 webpage for requirements in your local State or Territory. The Professional Experience Office will provide further information about the PEP prior to students commencing the program. Supervised professional experience is at the heart of all our Initial Teacher Education courses and the Faculty will find appropriate placements to suit the needs of your course. Placements will usually be arranged for the scheduled placement period in the professional experience calendar, although this may not always be possible.
