Plenary 2: Controlling in SAP S/4HANA -The story so far and future direction
Janet Salmon
In this session, we will look at how SAP Controllinghas become part of the universal journal and whatimpact this will have on familiar concepts such ascost elements and Profitability Analysis.
We will discuss the move towards real-time financegiving specific examples showing the use of deriva-tions in Profitability Analysis, event-based revenuerecognition for professional services and event-based overhead and target costs in manufacturing.
We will also look at planning, budgeting and com-mitment management in the context of SAPS/4HANA and explain how SAP is reworkingthese functions.
Finally, we will introduce the new reporting optionsand explain new features such as the use of flexiblehierarchies to generate cost center and profit centerhierarchies.
Janet Salmon is the Chief Product Owner for Man-agement Accounting at SAP SE. Janet is known tomany SAP Financials professionals for her writingson Controlling and related subjects in SAP Finan-cials Expert. She is the author of Controlling withSAP – Practical Guide, Accelerated Financial Clos-ing with SAP, and SAP HANA for ERP Financials2nd Edition. Janet has overseen many SAP Control-ling functionality product developments both as aProduct and Solution Manager. Most recently shespearheaded changes to the user interfaces withinControlling and data transfer from Controlling toSAP HANA.
Plenary 1: Product Costing in SAPS/4HANA - The road to global valuechains (Material Ledger, Actual Costing,Transfer Pricing)
Janet Salmon
With the use of SAP Material Ledger becomingcompulsory from SAP S/4HANA 1511 there is a lotof confusion about how much material ledger comeswith the migration - actually it is only the use of thematerial ledger for inventory valuation and the op-tion of using multiple currencies that is compulsory.
Customers can still choose whether to implementActual Costing and should know that this applicationwas completely rearchitected in SAP S/4HANA
1610, resulting in less stepsin the costing run, better per-formance and less tables toworry about.
Customers can also choose whether to implementtransfer pricing and group valuation. The case forthe elimination of intercompany profit across thevalue chain is strong but there are certain systemprerequisites to make it work for you.
We'll cover the following topics:
• Minimum requirements when the material ledgeris activated in SAP S/4HANA 1511
• Impact of activating actual costing and what
changes compare to today's costing run
• Impact of implementing group and profit centervaluation alongside legal valuation at transferpricing and introduction to the business functionfor stock in transit that helps build the chains be-
tween affiliated companies
• How SAP plans to take this topic further in thelight of tighter BEPS requirements and greaterneed for transparency in global value chains
