WPX Energy, Inc. | 2018 Charitable Giving Report 1

At this time last year, our YTD charitable

giving was $1.16 million. This year? Close

to the same – $1.07 million.

Nearly 300 organizations have benefitted

from WPX’s generosity in the first three

quarters of 2018.

This includes the American Heart

Association, who is going to nationally

recognize WPX in 2019. This year we

raised $235,000 for the AHA, making

us 1 of the 25 largest supporters in

the country.

The Tulsa World also has mentioned us

multiple times this year, including a

spotlight on our Day of Caring at Street

School where we’ve helped for seven

years in a row.

Importantly, we also streamlined how we

administrate our giving programs to

maximize our charitable dollars and

strengthen our internal controls.

And in the basin where we have the most

rigs, we’ve nearly tripled the level of our

local community giving YTD vs. last year,

organized by a group of eight employees

in our Carlsbad office.

When it comes to our community

involvement and charitable endeavors,

WPX people don’t just make a difference,

they are the difference.

100% of all matching gifts are now administrated internally again

following the culmination of our agreement with a third party. In

March 2018, we introduced a new process for employee matching

gift requests that was built on our own network. This eliminated fees

incurred by WPX for every request, thus maximizing the company’s

charitable dollars. Recipients of our matching gifts now receive 100%

of an approved match.

Community Affairs initiated the first comprehensive review and

rewrite off WPX’s giving policy since its spinoff. New measures were

added to improve the tracking of gifts, delegation of authority and

eligibility guidelines. The new standard was published for

employees in April 2018.

In June, an independent firm began a review of our charitable

contributions processes and controls. Recommendations were

presented in October 2018. Two new controls are already

implemented, with additional measures planned for 2019. New

controls primarily center around the disclosure of potential conflicts

of interest for employees who serve in some capacity with

nonprofits, along with formalizing how new organizations are

added to eligibility for matching gifts.
