Note from the Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters of Pax Christi USA, It is in a spirit of accountability and transparency that I present to you our Annual Report for 2018 done in collaboration with our Staff and National Council. I am pleased to share that Pax Christi USA had fewer expenses in 2018. You will see in these pages that PCUSA continues to meet the challenges of a tight fiscal environment and increasing needs. We continue to remain ever grateful to our Major Donors and Sustainers (those who give monthly). The process to become a Sustainer is quite simple and guarantees the organization monthly income. Please contact the National Office and join the Sustainers’ Circle for Peace with Justice. PCUSA continues providing inspirational Advent and Lenten reflection booklets. Our membership newsletter, The Peace Current, continues to be a stable source of income. This past year our programs included workshops with religious communities around racial justice, and our college presentations focused on nonviolent conflict resolution. As we look forward, PCUSA will continue to collaborate more effectively with college campuses that have PCUSA local chapters. In addition, there is a growing movement to reach out to our young adult population in finding ways to actively invite them into shaping the future and mission of PCUSA. We need to grow our membership! Pax Christi USA needs to continue to exercise its prophetic role whenever the Gospel mandate is compromised and our social teachings are devalued. In order to move forward, we need to maintain a steady source of revenue, so your continuing and ongoing financial support is critical. In closing, it is with a grateful heart that I thank you for your faithful financial support and ongoing prayers for Pax Christi USA. Know too that each of you remain in my prayers!

With gratitude and hope, Sister Patricia Chappell, SNDdeN Executive Director Pax Christi USA

Programs

In reviewing 2018 and the activities involved in programming, it is clear that, with your support, we have had a successful year. We have reached a little over 3,000 people with the 28 programs that we completed in parishes, religious congregations of men and women, college campuses, high schools and state assemblies. These workshops usually initiate or strengthen the collaborative efforts in a local area and encourage networking with other faith-based and civic groups involved in similar justice issues. We initiated a series of webinars based on our Four Initiatives with the second series to begin in April 2019. Thus far, since

some of the participants are groups, we know that we have had over 500 viewers. We have two national study groups on the topics of Israel/

Palestine and Nuclear Abolition that meet via conference call four to five times a year. We continue to be a part of the Core Group of Justice for Immigrants (USCCB) that meets monthly as well as the regular national calls with the National Religious Coalition against Torture (NRCAT). We are members of the Pax Christi International’s Catholic Nonviolent Initiative Campaign as part of the US delegation. We are a member of the Washington Working Group which deals with international issues that the US is involved in, namely Israel/Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and Nuclear Disarmament. This information is shared with local Pax Christi USA groups who are working on these issues. We are a grassroots organization and for that reason, we affirm and support our 16 geographical regions across the US, along with our 230 local groups in whatever peace-with-justice issues they choose to work on in their local community. Some of the issues that our members work on are: repealing the death penalty, racism/bigotry, immigration, relationship with Jewish and Muslim communities, military spending, drones, labor issues, climate, and restorative justice, to name a few. We know that early 2019 is already scheduled with presentations in Beaumont TX, Rochester NY, St. Louis MO, and Philadelphia PA.
