Jack & Jill Children’s Center has undergone a remarkable evolution in thepast year as we have pursued our vision for every child and family to have the tools they need to be successful in life. One of the most profound changes over the pastyear has been our hyper-focus on a deeper commitment to our children, families, and community as we refine our goals to be more progressive, favoring innovation, equity, and development in Broward, where we have ignited positive social change for over 75 years.

Conversations regarding our commitment to our children and families became the seeds for a significant decision for expansion. The foundation being fourequally strong commitments to those we serve: our families, our team members, our stakeholders, and Broward County. This decision ultimately brings together whatwe believe are the essential prerequisites for maintaining the long-term health and growth of Jack & Jill Children’s Center, as well as our community at-large. The steps toward growth have included several notable “firsts” for Jack & Jill Children’s Center. In 2016, we had our firstKindergarten Class. In 2017, our first First- Graders walked our halls. This past year, in 2018, we added our first Second Grade class and a note-worthy partnership withthe Salvation Army—a temporary home for our Elementary School program.

These initiatives are all catalysts fortangible growth: a permanent, state-of-the- art facility housing Kindergarten through fifth grade, adjacent to our current Center, to open in the fall of 2020.

In keeping with that spirit, we invite you—and indeed encourage you—to tour our Center and to accompany us on this journey of growth and expansion. In the process, you will change lives forever, andhelp real members of our community to reach their full potential—to be all they can be.

Thank you for your ongoing interest in Jack & Jill Children’s Center and for your support.

Sincerely,

"Conversations regarding our commitment to our children and families became the seeds for a significant decision for expansion."

At Jack & Jill Children’s Center, we work to strengthen families, while also giving caregivers/parents and children the skills they need to be successful in life. We supportfamilies during challenging times, encourage/highlight their hard work and celebrate their successes. Here we are highlighting, Natalee and her son Dantonio. They have been at Jack & Jill Children’s Center since January of 2015. In that time, Natalee has actively enriched her family by participating in courses as part of our two-generation approachto education. Those courses include the Nurturing Parenting Series, the First Time Home Buyer’s Series, and FLIPANY’s Cooking Matters Series. Jack & Jill Children’s Center connected her to Miami Herald’s Wishbook Foundation, so that her family was adopted during the holiday season. Jack & Jill assisted her with resume writing and providedemergency assistance to her family. She has also accessed our food and clothing pantry, the Jack & Jill Boutique. Together we work hard to ensure her family reaches their full potential. In her ownwords, this is her story: "My name is Natalee. My son’s name is Dantonio and he is 6 years old and in first grade at Jack & Jill Elementary School. His dream is to graduate, go to college and become anFBI Agent. I know he will accomplish this dream because of the support he gets from Jack & Jill Children’s Center. As a single mother, education is very important to me. Jack & Jill provides thatcost effective education that will not break my pockets. I could not imagine enrolling my son anywhere else. I love Jack & Jill. The classes are smaller and their focus is always education. The teachers and team members are always professional and willing to go the extra mile to provide help wherever needed. I am raising a successful young man andwith my morals, as well as the educational skills and values he gets at Jack & Jill Elementary School, I know Dantonio will be great. We are forever thankful that we have the opportunity to attend this school. We needmore schools like this in our community. Jack & Jill Children’s Center has helped my family to thrive."

Jack & Jill’s comprehensive Family Strengthening Program is designed to strengthen low income, at-riskfamilies by providing intensive parent education, individual and family therapy, a food and clothing bank, and an emergency assistance fund. Through this program, families increase financial stability, maintain employment, achieve job advancement, decrease the risk for incidences of abuse and neglect, and foster their child’s healthy growth and development. As a result, parents gain confidence, children perform andbehave better at home and in the classroom, and families function at higher levels of stability.

2018Jack & Jill Children’s Center remains committed to providing outstanding services to the Center’s children and their families, a commitment reflected in our financial results. This fiscal year was one of significant growth for Jack & Jill as we expanded our Elementary School to include first and second grade classes. Elementary-aged services moved to a temporary rental space as we plan for the building of our new Elementary School. Direct program expenses increased by almost $275,000 over the prior year, driven by increased enrollment. Total income increased by approximately $389,000, with increases in corporate and private giving, special events, grants and tuition. Jack & Jill improved its already strong balance sheet reflecting over $6 million in total assets at fiscal year-end, an increase of almost $1.5 million, largely the result of financial support received for the anticipated Elementary School construction. Jack & Jill continues to rate at or above most of its peers with Charity Navigator because of our commitment to accountability and transparency as well as our financial results.

After careful strategic business planning and community involvement, the Board of Directors determined that Jack & Jill is uniquely positioned to provide a high quality elementary school opportunity for our current students and those in the community. Expanding the academic program through fifth grade will increase the depth and duration of Jack & Jill’s impact. Over 215 children will be enrolled in this new school.

A capital campaign kicked off last year in anticipation of opening the school in August of 2020. To date, we have raised $7.1 million of our $9 million goal. Keith Arnold and Tom McManus are leading the charge as Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign Committee. Madelaine and Steve Halmos are Honorary Chairs, and donated the lead gift for the campaign.

Help us to build a bright future for our children. Please consider making an investment with a campaign contribution. Pledges may be extended over five years. Naming opportunities are available. Please contact: Maria Meyer, Chief Development Officer, 954-463-8772, ext. 206 or [email protected].
