In our work with families and children over the past 58 years, we have learned that lasting impact is rooted in partnerships with parents and their children; within our professional team; with funders, donors, and volunteers; and across our many valued community partners.

We know that nurturing relationships are fundamental for the healthy development of children and the cornerstone of healthy families and communities. They are also fundamental for successful community partnerships. In close collaboration, we identify needs, we design services, and together, we achieve what would not have been possible without the expertise and resources held within the partnership.

This past year, an additional 440 children accessed services through nearly 40 partnerships across the Twin Cities metro. In this annual report we invite you to learn more about how partnerships built or expanded in 2018 were key to our accomplishments.

PARTNERSHIPAs Westminster Presbyterian Church’s chosen community partner, we opened the Harman Center for Child & Family Wellbeing. This new early intervention center in downtown Minneapolis is dedicated to children and families who have experienced trauma and adversity and who need mental health and pediatric services to be in their reach.

Our approach is centered on strengthening attachment relationships, so parents and caregivers better attune to their children’s needs.

Therapeutic Recreation

WITH SCHOOLS, PARKS, AND NONPROFITS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

There is a lack of daytime programming for teens and adults with disabilities. Some of these youth are not able to remain home alone, and many would benefit from a more structured and social environment.

Our Therapeutic Recreation programs partner with schools, parks, and nonprofits throughout the metro to provide an opportunity for people with developmental disabilities to engage in their communities, gain independence, and build friendships, all while giving primary caregivers respite.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: 380 SERVED Inclusive early childhood education and childcare for children of all abilities, age 16 months to five years, including English/Spanish language classrooms, summer, and enrichment programming at two campuses in Minnetonka and Minneapolis.

EARLY INTERVENTION AND TREATMENT: 3,502 SERVED Autism Treatment and Support: Comprehensive, multidisciplinary services for children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, including center-based day treatment and in-home intervention and support.

Pediatric Therapies: Occupational, Speech-Language, Physical, Feeding, and Music Therapies for children with developmental delays and disabilities, ages 18 months to 12 years.

Children’s Mental Health: Center, school, and home-based therapy for children ages birth to 12 with early childhood trauma, developmental delays and disabilities, medical complications, and emotional/behavioral health needs. Services include individual, group, and family therapy; in-home mental health services and case management; school-based mental health services; and day treatment for preschool children with mental health diagnoses.

Child Welfare: Range of services for children in and at risk of out-of-home placement including: a) 0-5 home visiting that offers emotional support, developmental guidance, advocacy, parent-child observation, and therapy to parents with significant trauma histories and/or current stressors and b) respite, shelter, and foster care services with access to mental health assessment and therapy.

LIFE-PHASE SUPPORT SERVICES: 502 SERVED In-Home Support Services: In-home, individualized support services for children and adults with developmental disabilities, centered on the value of each individual’s strengths, areas for development, contribution to the community, and a desire for independent living.

Therapeutic Recreation: Community-based programming focused on recreation, community activities, and socialization for individuals with developmental disabilities ages 11 and older.
