SPRINGBOARD – LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

5 Sessions of Springboard a Leadership Program were organized during the year by IQAC.

The Inauguration and First Session of Springboardwere conducted on 18th July 2018 on the topic“Discover a Leader in You” delivered byDr.JesudossJayapaul, English Language TeachingConsultant. The Second Session was conducted on20th August 2018 on the topic “Emotional Quotientfor Effective Leadership” facilitated byRev.Fr.Sanjay,SDB, Head, Dept. of Psychology,Sacred Heart College, Thirupathur. The Third Sessionof Springboard was held on 7th December 2018, onthe topic “Awareness to Addiction” delivered by

Ms.AnitaYazhini, Student Counselor. The FourthSession of the leadership program was conducted on31st January 2019 on the topic “PowerCommunication for Effective Leadership” byDr.G.Immanuel, Head, Associate Professor,Department of English, Aalim Muhammed SaleghCollege of Engineering. The Fifth Session ofSpringboard was conducted on the topic “SocialLeadership” by Dr.A.Xavier Mahimairaj, IQACCoordinator.

IQAC NATIONAL CONFERENCE

With an illustrious 40 years of experience in Autonomy, Loyola College hosted a “National Conference OnExcellence In Higher Education” to provide a platform to academicians, policymakers in higher education,industry experts and all stakeholders of higher education to revisit the Indian higher education system,understand the important trends in global context, address to the prominent challenges and visualize newbenchmarks to ensure quality and excellence. The conference brought together faculty, researchers,administrators, resource persons for deliberate on Quality and Excellence in higher education in India,Reforms in Higher Education: Policy/operational Aspects and its impact, College Autonomy, The role ofAccreditation and Ranking, Skill Development and Institution & industry interaction.

In his Inaugural Address, Dr. Danis Ponniah, S.J., Provincial, JesuitMadurai Province, talked about the Vision of Jesuit HigherEducation where he called the educationists to remember theIgnatian principle and foundation that man is created to praise andreverence God. He added that a value-oriented educational goalwill not be realized unless it is infused within our educationalservices. He also stated that the Jesuit education should be madepossible for the disadvantaged and we need to incorporate aglobal dimension into our educational programs. Institutes ofhigher learning should promote depth of thought and imagination,build international networks, and focus on a genuine search fortruth and knowledge.

The key-note speaker, Prof. (Dr.) G Gopa Kumar, Vice-Chancellor,Central University of Kerala, addressed on the topic, HigherEducation: Global Changes and Key Trends, highlighting the needof the present hour for quality research and academiccollaboration, innovation, and partnerships, credit transfer,student and teacher mobility, academic autonomy, humanresource empowerment, etc.Dr. Shiv Visvanathan, Professor andVice Dean, Jindal Global Law School, Director, CentreforStudy ofKnowledge Systems addressed on Excellence in Higher Education

emphasizing that ‘excellence’ is about Pluralism and it is not elitist and that the democratization of educationis the first step towards excellence.Dr. G. Haragopal, Visiting Professor, National Law University, Bangalore,Former Professor of Political Science, Hyderabad Central University, Presidium, AIFRTE addressed on ReformsIn Higher Education In India: Policies/ Operational Aspects And Its Impact. He said that education shouldrespond to the social ‘needs’ and not ‘wants’.It should be public-funded for more social responsibility and also,he added that a diverse society needs a diverse approach to education.

Open Forum for StudentsOpen Forum was conducted for students in the Odd and the Even semesters of 2018-19. The 1st Session wason 24th August 2018. From Shift-1 a total of 149 students attended and from Shift-2, 201 participated. Theraised 39 queries which were clarified by the officials of the college. The second session of Open Forum forStudents was conducted on 1st Feb 2019. A total of 97 students from Shift I and 116 from Shift 2 participated.The Action Taken Report was presented regarding the resolution of various academic and administrativequeries that were raised in the previous Open Forum.

NIRF 2019A report was submitted to the National

Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for

India Ranking 2019 on 5th December 2018.

The college was placed 6th in the Category

of Colleges.

Extended IQAC Meeting: The IQAC regularly meets withthe External IQAC members of each department everyacademic year. The Extended IQAC Meeting wasconducted on 11th July 2018 for the academic year.

Staff Assessment and Exit Poll: Staff Assessment byStudents was organized by IQAC between 27th

September and 4th October 2018, and Exit Poll andStaff Assessment were organized from 11thto 16th

March 2019 for students.

Stock Verification 2017-18 - The IQAC organized theAnnual Stock Verification for departments of Artsand Commerce on 25th March 2019 and for Sciencedepartments on 26th March 2019.

Faculty Development Program for Younger Staff on the theme:“Educational Technologies for Teachers”

The IQAC conducted 6 sessions of Faculty Development Programme for younger staff on “EducationalTechnologies for Teachers”. At the end of the FDP, the participant teachers produced e-contents, especiallyvideos of micro-teaching on their subjects.

1stSessionwas organized on 19th July 2018 on the topic, “Teacher as a Facilitator, Motivator and Enabler”,byDr.JosephJeyaraj, Former Head, Department of Commerce and “Understanding and Facilitating the Studentsof Digital Age” by Ms.Leema Peter, Psychologist.

AQAR was submitted on 20th September 2018 to NAACAll India Survey of Higher Education, (AISHE) - wassubmitted on 19thJanuary 2019.Week Survey - The Week Survey was submitted on 5thMarch 2019.India Today – The MDRA India Today Survey wassubmitted on 22nd December 2018.

Heroes of Chennai – The nomination for Heroesof Chennai was submitted on 24th October2018. The college stood first in the Category ofEducation

2ndSessionwas organized on 21st August 2018 on the topic “Using Technology Inside and Outside theClassroom to Enrich the Learning Experience” by Dr.A.Xavier Raj, Professor - Entrepreneurship Management &Chairperson - C.K. Prahalad Centre for Emerging India & Head - Loyola Inclusive Incubation Centre, LIBA.

3rd Session was conducted on26th September 2018, on the topic “Learning Management System (LMS) onCloud” by Dr.Siluvai Raja, Trainer, Mentor and Researcher in MSME domain at Prof.CK Prahlad Centre forEmerging India, LIBA and Mr.Y.Amala Frank Jayaseelan, Coordinator of LIBA-Informatics Centre.

4thSessionwas conducted on 3rd December 2018, and5th Session on 8th February 2019 on “EducationalTechnologies for Teachers – Developing E-content” byDr.V.Ashok Immanuel, Associate Professor, ChristUniversity, Bengaluru. 6thSessionwas conducted on 5th

March 2019, where the faculty members presentedtheir e-contents.

Message from the IQAC CoordinatorInternal Quality Assurance System is a step towards Excellence. The IQAC of Loyola organizes orientationprograms for faculty, administrative staff, and quality circle members. It conducts open-forums to providean interface between students and officials of the college. It conducts staff assessment and exit poll toprovide valuable feedback for quality sustenance and improvement in teaching, learning and researchexperiences in the college. It documents and reports various activities of the college for various highereducation requirements. A continuous follow up has been made on infrastructural resources of the collegeto assure adequate, appropriate and better facilities to assure conducive and enabling environment forteaching, learning and research. Through all these measures IQAC happens to be one of the importantcomponents of the college which ensures quality and continuous improvement in all the units/aspects ofthe college. The IQAC places it on record its gratitude to the management, staff, students, funding agenciesand parents for their support to the IQAC in fulfilling quality sustenance and maintenance at Loyola.
