MYP Verification Visit
LA always strive to provide our students with quality education. To
achieve this end, we are seeking authorization from the IB in order
to become the only DSS through-train IB World School in Hong Kong
that provides PYP, MYP and DP curriculum.
On 23 and 24 May, IB MYP verification team members visited our
school and conducted a review to see if our policies and practices
are in line with the IB’s requirements. They observed our lessons,
met with senior management as well as teachers and discussed with a
group of parents to get a wholistic picture of the readiness of LA.
We received positive comments from them and will keep on improving
ourselves according to the helpful suggestions given.

4 MAY
The first ever LA STREAM Carnival was held on 4 May successfully.
STREAM is an educational curriculum that combines Science,
Technology, Reading and wRiting, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
During the carnival, our students showcased how our school
integrated STREAM concepts into classroom teaching and their
achievements in STREAM curriculum to parents, friends and the
public by organizing different kinds of interactive
activities.
The Carnival was kicked off by the opening ceremony officiated by
Mr. Wilson WONG M.H., the vice-chairman of Yuen Long District
Council. Throughout the day, students and guests enjoyed different
workshops and game stalls that were organized by both primary and
secondary students. Besides, “AI & the Future Thoughts”, which
was an interactive STREAM drama with guided tour written and
directed by our teacher and performed by our Primary Cantonese
Drama Group, played to a full house for two consecutive
sessions.
Thanks everyone for your active support. All funds received from
this grand event were contributed to the “School Development
Project”. This was a good opportunity for us to collaborate all the
efforts of the School, parents, students and friends to make LA a
better place!

Music Concert
The 14th My Hong Kong Dream 2019 Music Concert was held
successfully at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on 1 May by Hong Kong Civil
Education Foundation Limited. Some members of our LA Children’s
Choir and LA Singers joined the Joint School Choir and had been
practicing for months to perform in the Concert.
This year, the theme of the Concert is “Be grateful, Be proactive”.
As a member of the Joint School Choir, our students performed “”,
“”, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and
“Thank you for the Music” along with students from sixteen other
schools. The performance radiated positive energy and was a great
success. Through the Concert, students also learned that if they
contribute their part to the society, they could bring changes to
the society.

Student-Led Conference 30-31 MAY
In order to provide students with opportunities to share and
celebrate their learning journey across the year in a positive way,
Student-led Conference was held on 30 and 31 May.
In the Conference, students actively guided their parents around
the activities and stations inside the classroom; teachers only
gave certain guidance when the students needed help. They also
showed their portfolios and work to demonstrate what they have
learned in this academic year. By carrying out the event, students
learned to take personal responsibility for their academic
performance and the importance of self-evaluation and
reflection.

the early morning, we were lucky that the overall weather was cool
and sunny on that day.
During the event, 29 families, along with some of our teachers,
visited the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Police Museum and
appreciated the beautiful view of Victoria Peak. Everyone had an
enjoyable time on this fun and educational tour.

27 MAY
Our Year 5 students have been inquiring into the “Process of
creating goods and services”, “Entrepreneurialism” and “Responsible
and sustainable production of goods and services” in the
celebration unit called “How We Organize Ourselves”. As the unit
was drawn to a close, our Year 5 students held a Marketplace to
utilize what they have learned in the unit on 27 May.
In the Marketplace, students came up with their own business ideas
and created goods or services for sale, including stationery, DIY
items, games, snacks and so on. Both parents and primary students
from other levels have joined the celebration and enjoyed it very
much.
PYP Exhibition Showcase (PYPX)
The Year 6 PYP Exhibition was held successfully between 23 and 24
May to showcase what students have been learning in the unit theme
named “Sharing the Planet” and to celebrate their learning
throughout the Primary Years Programme.
This year, the central idea of the Exhibition was - “the process of
exploring local and global issues can lead to purposeful action and
self- discovery”. In order for parents to gain a better
understanding of students’ ideas throughout the PYPX journey and
collaborative investigation into the unit theme, they were invited

you all for coming to support the students and to celebrate the
event together.

Year 9 – Community Project Exhibition
Our Year 9 Community Project Exhibition was successfully held on 10
May. The Exhibition was a display of students’ accomplishments in
their Community Project, which is one of the core requirements of
Year 9 students’ completion of the Middle School.
The Community Project was a valuable opportunity for students to
develop and challenge their ATL skills. Over the last few months,
students researched extensively, planned carefully and eventually
took action to serve the community through different activities
with all their hearts. During the Exhibition, besides displaying
their learning, students also hosted talks to share their
experiences and outcomes from their own projects. Their efforts are
undoubtedly appreciated. Thank you all for coming to celebrate
their achievements.

Year 10 to 11 (DSE) Liberal Studies – Seminar on “One Belt and One
Road” and
China-Hong Kong Relations
24 MAY
To enhance Year 10 to 11 (DSE) students’ understanding and
knowledge on China- Hong Kong relations, a Seminar on “One Belt and
One Road” and China-Hong Kong Relations was organized on 24
May.
We were glad to have Mr. KUNG Wai Wai, the First Secretary and Mr.
YANG Kwai Man, the Second Secretary from the Office of the
Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s
Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to
host this seminar. Throughout the seminar, he shared Hong Kong’s
possible roles in the “One Belt and One Road” Initiative as well as
the opportunities and challenges that Hong Kong will face in the
future and helped students understand the development of modern
China and enhanced students’ care for China.
Spiritual Growth Corner
As the Christian Learning Center has been officially opened, a
series of activities aiming at strengthening our students'
spiritual power are organized. Students can join our program of
Strengthening your Spiritual Power (SSP) from Monday to Friday by
going to the Christian Learning Center during recess and recite a
bible verse from the student organizers. A small gift is given to
participated students and more importantly, we hope that students
can memorize bible scripture and crave God's words in their
hearts.
During lunch recess, activities are organized for primary and
secondary students. Primary students can join our "Sing and Dance,
Praise the Lord" in every lunch recess on Tuesday and Thursday. How
beautiful it is that we can praise our Lord with our lips and
bodies, and may the songs we sing become a pleasing offering to
God.
For secondary students, a "Be Free" session is set up for them to
come over and relax every Monday lunchtime. Secondary students may
come across pressure from studies and personal relationships, then
this is the place where they can find peace and rest in God's
presence and love. There's also a quiet sharing time called
"Chat-Hour" in which students can share their stories and anything
related to their spiritual conditions. This is a precious time in
which relationship among students can be built and we can learn how
to trust God by talking (praying) to Him about all our troubles and
happenings in life.
We thank God for giving us such a beautiful space, the Christian
Learning Center, where we can build up a closer relationship with
each other, and most importantly, we can be more connected to our
Lord by memorizing His words, praising Him and praying to
Him.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and
the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the
one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be
opened." (Matthew 7:7-8)

months of learning care apparel design, Dr. NG’s tutorial and visit
to the elderly center, our team designed a “Heat Heart Hoodie” to
the elderly on the long-term bed rest so as to improve their
quality of life. During the Innovative STEM@ Yuen Long Fair on 23
Feb, they successfully utilized their creativity and communication
skills to show their caring and reflective thinking in the design
of the hoodie. In the end, they received the “Most Informative
Award”. Let’s give them a big round of applause!
Library Corner
In this issue we’d like to share on our library support in STREAM
Carnival, Secondary team participation in Inter-School Battle of
Books (HKBOB) Competition, PYP Unit 6 Resources, and Chinese books
recommended for our Secondary students to read.
Library Support in STREAM Carnival
For the STREAM Carnival, our library team arranged Book Fair with
STREAM-related books during May 4 in Room 123. We have invited
three book suppliers, namely 4P Multimedia Software Ltd, Active
Minds Ltd, and BabyBoom through the tender notice and they have
given a reasonable discount to our students. We have a vast variety
of books for the students to choose and buy. Students were so
excited to see their favourite author’s books. Our library also
purchased some useful STREAM-related books that would be very much
helpful to our students.
Secondary Team Participation in HKBOB Competition
Our students participated in the HKBOB Inter-school Competition on
May 8. They tried their best and put up a good fight till the end
but narrowly missed the chance to enter the finals. Wish them a
better luck next time. Our sincere thanks goes to all the
participants for their team spirit. We are sure this competition
helped them read some good titles.
8 MAY
PYP Unit 6 Resources Now our primary students are doing their last
unit for this academic year. Our library staff arranged some useful
resources for their learning by providing block loan books from our
local public library. We have also purchased some new books related
to this unit in addition to the available prints and online
resources. We are also going to take some library lessons in the
coming weeks.

Book Recommendation The TV series Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying
Sabre (), adapted from Louis Cha ()'s novel of the same title, is
currently a hit. We all enjoy watching the TV series and highly
recommend students to read the novel to compare the differences
between the TV series and the original fiction. We strongly believe
those who love watching the TV series will also love the novel as
well. If you are interested, you can find the book series in our
library on the Senior Fiction (Chinese) Shelf.
