Purpose

• Provide a safe, healthy, and secure environment for all students, staff, and the public.

• Identify the key aspects of school safety and assign responsibility to specific persons.

• Monitor safety aspects and ensure that the District operations are conducted with the highest regard for health, safety, security, and welfare of students, staff and visitors.

Review student drop off and pick up at all sites as needed.

Review OAC safety with Theater Manager.

Extensive background checks and ID badges for new employees.

Monthly fire extinguisher checks performed.

Use of “Safe Walk” signs as needed district-wide.

Wisconsin Act 125 Requirements The Use of Seclusion and Physical Restraint in Schools as of September 1, 2012.

2011 Wis. Act 125, which addresses the use of seclusion and physical restraint in public schools, was signed by Governor Walker on March 19, 2012. The Act took effect on September 1, 2012. The Act applies to both regular and special education students and governs the use seclusion or physical restraint.

Per Act 125 each year, by September 1, the principal or designee must submit to the school board a report: of the number of incidents of seclusion and physical restraint in the previous year, the total number of students involved in the incidents, and the total number of students with disabilities involved in the incidents. Therefore the purpose of this Board Brief is to meet the reporting requirements of Act 125. If you have any further questions about this please contact Lisa Dawes at [email protected]. RESTRAINT: Anytime a child is involuntarily restricted from moving by use of physical force of an adult. This is only used by trained staff using approved techniques as a last resort response to unsafe behavior that has been determined to be a danger to the student or others.
