Dear Families, Friends, and Supporters,

Via Services is proud to present the 2017-2018 Via West Fall, Winter, and Spring Program Registration Catalog. At press time, we are completing our 2016-2017 season with our highest enrollments ever. We are honored to work alongside you to continue to grow our programs and provide the utmost quality in services.

Just within the past year, we have made some vast improvements to the facilities at Via West Campus. In the fall of 2016, with the help of KaBOOM!, the Sharks Foundation, and Groupware Technology, we constructed a brand new accessible playground on our main lawn. In March, we cut the ribbon on the Linda L. Lester Equestrian Center, formerly the horse corral, thanks to the wonderful contributions of Linda Lester. Ms. Lester generously donated $50,000 to continue to fund the Linda L. Lester Equestrian Program, which provided therapeutic riding for over 600 participants in 2016 and will continue to fund field trips to trail ride through the Stevens Creek Foothills at nearby Garrod Farms. In May, we unveiled the Sobrato Center for the Performing Arts, formerly the Huckleberry, which is our new state-of-the-art facility that will be the home of our performing arts programs, sensory room, and tech center.

We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our Adventures in Leadership program to include a third offering — Continuing Adventures in Leadership. Adults who have completed both Beginning and More Adventures in Leadership will have the opportunity to shine as a program leader in front of their peers while gaining valuable vocational skills for the future.

At Via West, we welcome everyone with open arms. We have a scholarship fund available for our Via West and Altitude families who cannot afford our private pay or regional center (RC) supplemental daily rates. We are so fortunate to work with you, our families, and we hope that you continue to make Via your home away from home.

Thank you for continuing to spread the word about Via West Campus. Without you, we would be the Bay Area’s best kept secret. See you all very soon!

Leslie Davis Executive Director

Shama Marshall is the Director of Altitude, and is responsible for the intake process of new participants, managing the sessions, and preparing the wonderful curriculum for Altitude programs.

Chelsea Farrington is the Associate Director of Programs and Grants for Via West and is responsible for co-managing the sessions, preparing the wonderful curriculum, and coordinating the grants.

Traditional Day & Overnight Programs (Adults) Traditional Day & Overnight Programs (Kids/Teens/Young Adults)Traditional day and overnight programs provide independent living skills and executive functioning,

all while having so much fun. Activities will be themed to each weekend and will include culinary arts —including farm to table education, hiking, music, sports and physical fitness, dramatic arts, creative arts, and more. Check-in is from 5:00-6:00pm on Friday, and check-out is from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday. Day program is available on Saturday only from 9:00am-8:00pm.

Travel Camp (Adults) Travel Camp (Kids/Teens/Young Adults)Travel camps give participants the chance to spend time exploring beyond their local community by experiencing overnight trips in a safe, nurturing environment. Check-in is from 7:00-8:00am on Friday, and check-out is from 5:00-6:00pm on Sunday. These opportunities are tailored to fit the needs of 3:1 participants. Those with a 2:1 ratio may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility. There is no option for day program or for those requiring a 1:1 ratio.

Adventures in LeadershipLeadership programs are for 3:1 adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities who are ready to master relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes for working at Via West in preparation for community work settings. Participants will engage in some of the typical camp activities as well as leadership specific activities wherein they will work on these specific skills. To enroll in Beginning Adventures in Leadership, participants must have completed at least two summer and/or weekend sessions within the past five years. To enroll in More Adventures in Leadership, participants must have completed at least one of the Beginning Adventures in Leadership programs. To enroll in Continuing Adventures in Leadership, participants must have completed both Beginning Adventures in Leadership and More Adventures in Leadership. Leadership sessions run concurrently with select traditional overnight programs. Check-in is from 5:00-6:00pm on Friday, and check-out is from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday.

Golf Sports Clinic In collaboration with First Tee and due to a generous grant from the National Alliance for Accessible Golf, we are offering an 8-week sports clinic specializing in golf. Participation and teamwork will be emphasized. The point of this offering is to build everyone’s ability at a pace they are comfortable with and to the level that they are capable of. The most important factor will continue to be safety and learning, and of course, having fun! These programs are offered to all ages and ratios. Instructions and team building exercises will be integrated; however, the clinic itself will be separated by age groups. Lessons are offered either at 4:00pm or 6:00pm. We would like everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, and if transportation is an issue, please contact the Via West Admissions Manager at 408-243-7861, ext. 214 to arrange.

Older Teens and Young Adults WeekendBack by popular demand is our weekend designed specifically for older teens and young adults. This program focuses on establishing a network of friends, mastering life skills, and developing confidence in the adult world. We’ll create lasting bonds of friendship and camaraderie as we cook meals in small groups, plan an exciting theme-based dance, and master gardening skills. Check-in is from 5:00-6:00pm on Friday, and check-out is from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday. Day program is available on Saturday only from 9:00am-8:00pm.

AltitudeAltitude is for participants who can function in a 3:1 ratio, have conversational language skills, are not currently struggling with any significant behavioral challenges, and are typically in a

main stream classroom setting. Check-in is at 5:00pm on Friday, and check-out is at 3:00pm on Sunday. Day program is available on Saturday only from 9:00am-8:00pm. Please note that for the February travel camp, check-in is from 7:00-8:00am on Friday, check-out is from 5:00-6:00pm on Sunday, and there is no opportunity for day program.

Kids and Teens entering 6th through 12th gradeTRAVEL BACK IN TIMENovember 3-5, 2017 (FRI-SUN)This weekend is geared for all — Altitude returners as well as new friends! Our time travel weekend is the perfect way to explore and experience the ways in which Americans have lived and bonded through the centuries. Participants will utilize their problem-solving and negotiation skills through exciting team building activities. We’ll have tons of fun while participating in centuries-old activities like archery, candle making, butter churning, and so much more! Our goal is to provide opportunities for participants to gain friendships through “team” experiences by building trust and having a common understanding. Everyone will leave with the

“Altitude Gratitude” mentality as we’ll have learned to appreciate each other and our modern lifestyles.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:Registration is now open for all fall, winter, and spring sessions. We are not restricting any spaces in our regular programs, however we do still have a maximum capacity. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis with deposit to secure reservation. We strongly encourage you to email, fax, or mail your registration forms as soon as possible. We encourage attendance at multiple sessions as our enhanced thematic programming will be very different each session. If you do not have enough respite hours to cover the full program, then you will be responsible for the Private Pay balance due. In order for your participant to be marked down as paid, we require:1. An Authorization to Purchase Services (not a Request for Purchase of Services) to be sent to the Via office before the start date of the session.2. The payment of the private pay or supplemental daily rate in full.If payment is not received from the regional center as authorized, you will be responsible for the remainder of the payment due at the private pay rate.
