Dance Team Tryout Dates: Tryout 1:

Time: May 5 @ 5pm & May 6 @ 8am **Both tryouts will be held at the Moody Field House
*Please note that you are not required to attend both tryouts but, if you do we will take the higher of your two scores. Attire:
Black, Kelly Green, Silver, or Royal Blue sports bra/half-‐top/or crop top, rhinestones may be added. Black hot shorts, dance shoes, and hair down but fashioned out of your face. Feel free to stand out and be noticed. Your tryout attire should represent your personality.
All potential dancers are expected to portray a collegiate image when trying out for TAMUCC. Body piercings and jewelry of any kind, extreme hair styles and/or colors are not acceptable at tryouts or during the year as an Islanders Dancer. All dance candidates must remove all piercings and cover tattoos prior to arrival of tryouts.

*The team will be named no later than Monday, May 8th: Check www.goislanders.com, Islanders Dance Team Facebook, twitter (@islandersdance), or Instagram (@islandersdanceteam) for a list of the final team. We will also follow up with emails to confirm status. Please respond as soon as possible in order to secure your spot.

TAMUCC DANCE TEAM SKILLS FOR
TRYOUTS:
• Turns: o Triple pirouette and Advanced/Elite turn sequence (multiple turns in
second ect.) • Leaps/Jumps:
� Tilt Jump or Switch Tilt, Double Toe Touch, Switch leap or Center switch, Turning Disc
• Extensions o Needle, Right leg hold to the front and side, Leg hold turn.
• Tumbling o Cartwheel/Round off, Ariel, Back walk over, Front walk over,
front hand spring, hip hop head spring, and kip up.
Tryout Routine The tryout routine will consist of a sassy jazz that will be about 45 seconds. The routine will include a few eight counts of free style and is your opportunity to show the judges what you can do. The routine will be taught in full on Friday night. All of the above (except the tryout routine) will be performed on Friday night in the Moody Field House. There will be a first round of cuts made early in the evening before we begin learning the routine. Those who make it past the technique cut will be allowed to stay and work on their tryout routine. Interview During tryouts you will be asked to participate in a personal interview. Coach’s and Judges will ask different questions throughout the night so be prepared for that on Friday evening. Males All males may try out for the dance team however, they will only be considered for our competition team. The competition team will begin practicing in November and details will be given out to those who make the team. Appearance/Image: At TAMUCC, appearance and image are very important to the program. All females are expected to present themselves in a collegiate and professional manner at all times. We are looking for the “All-‐American” girl. At tryouts, those trying out are expected to wear and look like: Females: all ladies are to look “game ready.” Natural make-‐up should be worn. Hair should be down with large curls and pinned out of your face. All tryout apparel worn should not have any other college or high school logos on them. Required Paperwork: All potential first-‐year members who are not TAMUCC students must bring their acceptance letter or “A” number to tryouts. You cannot tryout unless you have applied to the university and ALL your required paperwork is in. All potential first-‐year members who are current TAMUCC students must bring their student id and current unofficial transcript. Everyone will need to fill out a medical release and application form all of which can be found in this packet or can be filled out at tryouts. Squad Size: For the 2017-‐2018 seasons we will be taking between 16-‐22. Alternates: Those chosen as an alternate will be pulled up in the event that someone does not get accepted to the university or turns down there squad position. If you are interested in being an alternate please make sure to write it down on your application. Sporting Season: The TAMUCC dance team dances at all home volleyball and men and women’s basketball games as well as community and university events. We also travel with the basketball teams when they attend post season tournaments. The team also competes at ADTS nationals in Denton, Texas and won the Division I category in 2012. We also attend NDA nationals in Daytona Florida and made top 10 last year. Financial Requirements: The university provides everything a TAMUCC Dance Team member may need including practice wear, shoes, uniforms, poms, etc. The only thing that you will be asked to pay is your cost of camp which is $450.00 as well as raise $200.00 during summer fundraising activities. We do offer scholarships for those who qualify. Summer Dates: May 20th payment 1 due in the amount of $150.00 and athletic forms due to office (details to follow), housing forms, and final day to commit to the Islander Dance Team May 20th mandatory team meeting, uniform fitting, and university sponsored physicals. Please note that you must have insurance by this date and you must be accepted to the university by this date.
1st week of June: Freshmen orientation. If you cannot get into this orientation because it is filled you must try your best to get into a June orientation. You will have trouble registering for classes if you wait any later.
