The York Dungeon is a 75-minute journey into more than 2000 years of York’s dark history. Bringing together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects and surprises; this is a truly unique and exciting walkthrough experience that you see, hear, feel and smell. DIG is a hands-on archaeological adventure giving kids the chance to become trainee ‘diggers’ and discover the most exciting artefacts from 2,000 years of York’s history.
With four special indoor excavation pits, based on real-life digs in the city and filled with replica Roman, Viking, Medieval and Victorian finds, children can grab a trowel and explore how people lived in the past. Don’t worry, the soil is synthetic, so there is no need to bring a change of clothes.

Set in beautiful gardens in the heart of the city, it is open to the public as a museum, wedding and hospitality venue and meeting place some 660 years after construction began in 1357.
